FWIW there could quite possibly be more than one strain in existence that is carries the roadkill skunk terp profile.

That pic is of Bodhi's RKS (lineage unknown) x Chem 91, so small chance its the same thing you used to encounter.

I would like to know more about Bodhi's RKS clone, I remember seeing in some thread him and Tom Hill going back and forth saying the rks was weak potency, I'll have to lookt hat up.

His RKS is called Sterling Skunk and was given to him by a forum member. Pretty sure he's a member of this site. Just can't remember his name. The info was on the seed depot before it went to shit.

Silas you rock man. Just watch out on this forum, it isn't too kind to open talks like that as other forums are :tiphat:

BTW whats the good word with your RKS's, I remeber you saying you had some 80's RKS nl2 clone but it was sickly or something, how'd that turn out?

I just wanted to update this as I went back and read the posts I was talking about, it was Tom Hill that said it was boring, Bodhi said it was just as potent as anything else just tasted bad. I just didnt want to mis quote them.

Also I went back and looked, Bodhi's RKS cut turns purple so thats where the purple in grobags pics come from.

Bodhi's Skunk91 is a wild one for sure.
Absolutely nothing like any Euro Skunk I've come across. It really does stink of rotten meat and cat's piss/ammonia.It's very sativa orientated, soaring, heart pounding buzz.
I don't think it's the RKS you US guys remember but it's certainly deserving of the name Skunk.

Cross this to a good stinky Affie and you could really be getting there.

My money would be on that being the case. It isn't just one cut that everyone has experienced, it's different phenos from a variety of sources most likely.

What I find interesting as someone who came up in the post-RKS world of the 90s and 00s is that I often came across that RKS smell after smoking certain buds. It didn't smell like that in the bag or when you broke it up, though.

Only after you smoked it. One time it smelled so bad my neighbor thought there was an actual skunk in the house. Didn't get anything like that from the bag. Yet some of the older guys claim they got buds that smelled like that. None of them ever had bud that smelled that way after you smoked it but not in the bag?

All the attention on Afghan genes seems to overlook the fact that the original skunk plant was a Colombian Gold x Afghan hybrid. I'd be looking into the mom side of things to find that skunk funk, Afghan blood seems to bring out the musk funk and that's a world away from skunk in my book.

Back in the 70's early 80's when the real RKS was around you could not walk around in public..even if you 3 bagged it....forget about leaving it in a hot car...take you days to gt the smell out...it was great cannabis..melted your face off..it tasted sorta hashy..I would love to get some again to grow..I grew some years ago from a bag seed of rks..it grew real bushy and about 6-7 feet high....but the buds were crazy....sticky as all hell...and huge...when i was growing it my greenhouse the guy next store asked if I killed a skunk or have one living under the barn..thats all he could smell sitting on his deck....he was 400 feet away thru the woods ...no one could carry it with out some one knowing they were holding some weed..lol....I am always interested in a few seeds from it...the real deal RKS..not a make beleive one..lol....

Real deal.... or a new one... as long as we find those rare terpenes mercaptacan β-mercaptoethanol and butyl seleno-mercaptan in significant concentrations... problem comes in when sweet bullshit gets in the way... I dont give a fuck if its new or old... long as it is "real" from a terpene profile sense.

Nice work @xxPeacePipexx

That's a beauty.Looks to be a similar pheno to the one I kept.

Did you use that girl in your crosses or did you find a nice S91 male?
How dominant was the Skunk91 in the offspring?

"Sterling Skunk" is an old massachusetts strain that was inbred for over maybe 12 or 14 seasons. The original seed line came from California. A friend of mine got back from vietnam and was living in SoCal when he got the seeds. This was in like maybe 1974. Soon after he moved back to Massachusetts and began growing it outdoors. The seeds were given to me , and I was told "this shit smells just like a skunk". Knowing Bodhi's attention to the seed, I decided who better than him to have them. Seeds were given to him and a few others across the country. I am glad that they were useful. Bodhi does tremendous work, and I thank him for his work at preserving these varieties.

^ cool story, thanks for sharing.

I wish he would do more work with his RKS, if he has more seeds maybe there is a chance he will release it pure.

I still have hundreds of the original seeds here. my buddy did another season of open pollination this past year, too, and has even more seed. I grew out some of the SK91 - got that meat pheno. Wasn't for me, but it was dank. The original seed line is very stinky . One year I grew a bunch outdoors . When I brought it inside to dry it stunk up my entire house in a very bad way. The odor actually would wake me up in the middle of the night. I've never had that happen with any other strains...Lol.

Well if you ever want to part with any of those seeds I'd buy some off seedbay, Im sure others here would be interested in those too.

i'd like to put them in the hands of breeders who are going to continue working it. the guy i got them from swears there are RKS phenos. I never saw anything that reminded me of THE RKS, which I did smoke in the late 80s, and remember well --- and i remember it being strongly potent and LOADED with resin. Big juicey lime green buds....that smelled JUST LIKE a skunk.

Sounds good man. Now that we've got a little of the back story I will follow a long more closely to Bodhi's RKS projects. I'd say this lead is the closest we've come to RKS since this thread has started. I've been following up on some of the strains mentioned in this thread but when you get down to it and do some research they are just dead ends with no solid proof of the RKS. It's more elusive then big foot lol.
