so to clear things up, the outdoor samples i brought to the emerald cup were hybrids of the rks mother line not the pure. mostly hippy slayer, and the adsi guys got a bud of skunk 91.. hippy slayer is more of a garlic, onions, BO meat smell and the skunk 91 is a meaty cheetos old spice pirate sweat kind of smell. both skunky killers, but not totally rks of legend, mostly by morphology, as these are hybrids and have their own unique spectrum of deep funk. the mother line (sterling skunk) is an old 80’s skunky indica from nor cal brought back east and grown for 16 generations. in acclimatizing to its new environment and subsequent selection for quick maturation and mold resistance, in a guerrilla grow situation for a decade and a half, it seems she lost some of her olfactory mojo. the funk is still in there, and with some line breeding i believe the traits can be coaxed out. you can see them manifest in the hybrids. it carries that skunky pungency that moves beyond the confines of stoner containment technologies, fowling pants pockets, back packs, and automobiles with a thick terpene vapor. hippy slayer and skunk91 are the closest to rks I’ve come across these days. hippy slayer will pass its stank and potency into hybrids, so as the clone becomes more available im sure people will be creative with it, the right combo could be a modern substitute for what we seek. searching for an old school lime green puff ball of insane potency and the scent of death is where things get slim. theres more chance of people creating there own rks lines from available clone/seedstock, from landrace and vintage lines. i would suggest finding the pissyest sativas and the most acrid indicas and exploring the f1’s and f2’s…
I am currently growing out your Tigars Milk, still in veg. I bought some Fuzz seeds cause I read it has the RKS like terp profile. After reading your post I went on the hunt for Hippy Slayer and I can't find it anywhere? Can you help a grower out yo?

my colombian x afghani makes my eyes water and my nose run when i'm trimming her (i trim dry btw). i can only take out one branch at a time. the rest of the plant has to stay in the bucket and the trimmed nugs go into a mason jar the moment they're snipped off the branch.

i imagine trimming RKS would induce even stronger physical reactions.

does the cheese have that level of pungency?

from smoking it i could imagine it filling the room like a gross sweaty dude's gym sneakers.

but i couldn't imagine it makeing my eyes and nose leak like mace or skunk spray or 5 lbs of chopped onions.

my 30 year old skunk 1 cut gave me head aches when trimming or even just fucking with the plant and it was no where near a RKS.. so yes i would assume so.. also have had the same with some 70s-80s heirloom ghanis i recently ran.. one of them smelled spot on to burnt DMT. lol so weird

Maybe you can get the flavor, but seeing as how many skunky things are around that lack the killer power, i think trying to start with original skunk genetics and going f2 is probably a better bet for a good version of the old girl.

Reef's hao bac aka Vietnamese mindfuck is so strong it's debilitation. Edge of your seat anxiety attack contemplate life type smoke. I think it would be more than enough to breed in potency as well as nasty Terpenoid profiles. I think that as a female crossed to maybe a kandahar valley ghani male could possibly be the perfect f1 to hit to sk#1. In other news, I saw the flower of the dukes of errl's rks, and I believe they've found the unicorn. I'm about to take a pic and post it, but it's so loud cops have smelt it driving past the dukes with their windows rolled up not even smoking any. It's sulfur carcass all the way, and so strong it gives you a panic attack every time you smoke it. Josh d and Matt bubba offered all their private cuts for it when they found out who the dukes got her from.

This is just a small sample he sent me home with to try for myself. It smells like puke and sulfur and rotting animal. I'll post again after a doobie to comment on its effect

honestly the HA go cut that i had that is now assumably floating around MI smelled very similar.. not like OG at all.. just body odor, arm pits, grease and dead animal. lol
it wasn't potent tho. just yielded like crazy and had bag appeal
the worst thing about it tho is that it tasted similar to its smell.. kinda like sour milk and BO

I see some ones I have never seen before. I wonder how long of a list labs test for. I am wondering if mercaptans could be giving me these aromas.

Any labs testing for mercaptans? Or are they not cannabis related?

This is the one that most fits my description from last year

Butyl Mercaptan has an extremely strong, fetid, extremely foul-smelling odor, commonly described as "skunk" odor. It is structurally similar to several major components of a skunk's defensive spray but is not present in the spray itself. The scent of butyl mercaptan is so strong that the human nose can easily detect it in the air at concentrations as low as 10 parts per billion. Used as a flavor additive, it has a sulfureous, vegetative, savory meaty, garlic and onion taste.

But this one mentions the creaminess.

Methyl Mercaptan has an extremely strong, sulfurous, decomposing cabbage, skunky aroma. It is used in flavorings and is described as sulfurous, alliaceous and creamy with a surface-ripened cheese topnote and a clean savory meaty depth.

Description from "help me name this thread"

Super potent, very racy, not for beginner smokers. A seasoned grower refused to finish the blunt with me. He said it was to "heady" for his liking. I am more of a sativa guy so it was my go to jar.

The smell is garlic and onion with a hint of beefiness. Actually a little more earthy and gamy than beef, more like deer meat in onions and garlic with a touch of anise seeds.

Imagine "french onion soup" weed, with the cheese on top and all.
Not fuel at all, but still loud as hell tho.

Here's the kicker tho, it tastes nothing like it smells. The taste is like a sweet, creamy (not fuely) sour strain. When my gf said "it tastes like a vanilla wafer", I definitely could get that on the exhale. There is something about how stank it is, yet how sweet it tastes that really makes you run through a jar.

Someone whose been out of the game for ten years. I dont quite understand how sulfur carcass terps are not the smell at all of Road kill skunk? It's been said time and time again, everyone's looking for that real dead skunk smell, not like a skunk spray but like a carcass rotting on the roadside. This bud smells like that, with a baby puke kind of acridness on it. I believe it's the real deal. Not many strains make me sweat from smoking flower

I don't think a skunk killed by a car smells any different than a skunk that sprayed a dog or whatever. Unless the roadkill version has a rotting smell or something.

Just because bud reeks it is not rks. It wasn't a general term. It was a strain, and it smelled of skunk the animal, nothing else. Lime green nugs. Potent as fuck. So let's stop posting buds that smell of other things, regardless of how much they smell, it has zero relevance to the rks thread.

Yeah i dont recall any rotting meat. It smelled skunky, but very nice, not unpleasant imo. I actually have a good reference in my selfed seed; it keeps the memories alive of the real deal aroma, as its pretty close, and actually when harvesting is really close.

and if buddy has been out of the game for ten years, then he has only fresh cuts, no? Only if he has been in the game the whole time he would have the OG skunky skunk possibly.

But if it makes you sweat, maybe its related, but not like what most of us remember. Lots of time has passed, its not surprising if its different.

Kind of funny all the Legendary varieties of the world have Sam wrapped up in them in some way or another. How did Skunk #1 smell like cheese when in the states it smelt like skunk spray. The same super loud acrid ammonia smell but cheesy...something funny going on here...

As far as I know UK CHEESE was selected from Skunk#1 seeds I made. They were bought from Neville, taken to the UK and CHEESE was a clone selected from the grow.
No one bred a CHEESE, it was selected from a Skunk #1 grow.
I got this from the guy who bought the seeds, took them to the UK, named it CHEESE, and the rest is history.
Also I can guarantee CHEESE is a pure Skunk #1, the first time I smelled the UK CHEESE clone I said it was pure Skunk #1, I met the grower later and he confirmed it to me.

Not all, but many. Its not unlikely that cheese was a skunk#1 pheno. Different phenos have possibly hugely varying terpenophenolic profiles.
