Is that your packet Sam?

Yes my package, my handwriting,,,,,
35 years old.....
I still have all the original art work, much bigger, a meter tall.
I used the label for any seeds that had Indica even though Skunk #1 was more Sativa.
I just wrote in the variety. My first package was for S Indian, Kerala.

Sam did you have different lines of skunk. Are these lines your also Skunk #2 and #3. If these are how are they different from #1. I know you said your #1 was selected for sweeter rather than skunky. Thanks

I think the real roadkill skunk is a mythical unicorn at best. I would bet that the "skunk" smelling weed we all know is mexican mids that were sprayed with artificial skunk scent to spook dogs and help smuggle it over he border.

This thread has been going on for years, not one single lead or verified story, it's all just baseless conjecture. Not a single person has found a plant with a true skunk odor in decades, not one person can honestly say they have grown it.
Hiding in the haze guess you didn't read a reply I made. If you have grown sk1 long enough you would realize that the rks pheno is pretty boring except for the smell .

I agree, I prefer the sweet ones, when i had Skunk#1 that was real RKS I did not like to smoke it, even the plants I entered that won the Harvest festivals in the late 70's I didn't smoke it as I had O Haze that was so much better to me. The RKS was slightly stronger then the sweeter Skunk #1 but with a physical, couchlock high that some did like.

I had a Skunk #2 that I kept Skunky, but stopped making it in 85. I still have Skunk #2 seeds in refrigeration, not a lot but maybe 100 grams.

In post #2019, Sam talked of receiving and then breeding of Durban Poison and this made me think about something I had read years ago in one of Mel Franks books.
In a 88 copy of Insiders guide, Mel talks about an 'unnamed breeder who developed Durban Poison in California in the 70s'.
He goes on to say that the breeder had two primary concerns-high potency and early flowering and he succeed wonderfully with both goals.
I'm pretty sure the unnamed breeder is Sam.
Its also interesting that Mel state's that ' This DP strain has broad leaf blades almost like an Afghani but long internodes like sativa ', maybe this is why some people think that DP that is offered today has been hybridized?
Mel also says' that only two out of 16 female plants from this variety, were worthwhile for breeding'.
Pretty much confirms what Sam said about clearing up the intersex in DP.
Sorry to be a bit off topic but I just find it funny when peeps try to say Sam was not
responsible for the breeding he most cercertainly did.
As for the 'Mendo Joe' story, that is just ridiculous, probably made up by some fantasist on the internet and if the insane seed posse believe it, well they are plain insane, lol.
We should be thanking Sam not doubting him.:tiphat:

Thanks Sam.

Sam, do you or RCC have any information at all on the very old Northern Lights stock (from before it got to Netherlands)? Origins, lineage, etc. Was the very old stock sold or available as #1-9? Thanks

No, I saw NL at Nevils when he first moved to his "castle" the first time I tried it and I did not like the taste or effects, it was strong but not nice to me. I had zero to do with NL.

Thanks, great info.

I can safely speak for many on RKS being a unicorn. If you're driving down the road and smell a skunk and do a u-turn to to drive back to it and smile... just to remember the old RKS for a few minutes, then you know it is no unicorn. I hope somebody finds it. I signed up to the site because the first things we grew were (among other strains) NL and RKS and because of youth and inexperience they were lost. I'd cut off my left one to take that mistake back.

RKS was not only real but was common as hell in the Seattle area, probably around the early nineties. Then it was on to the next fashion. So it goes. A well known local gentleman's motorcycle touring club grew it by the ton. It was so skunky it constituted a real security issue not just for growers but even for the guy with an eighth in his pocket as well and while good strong weed, it was sedative and not the best party weed. I assume it was replaced with other types because of the security angle but also because better stuff came up and upstaged it. Nostalgia aside, the new varieties generally need more than just novelty to displace whatever sat atop the pile before. It was good sure but it wasn't anything really special--any Washingtonian over 21 can go into any rec shop and get better quality cannabis today. The ubiquitous Liberty Reach Blue Dream or Stone Mountain rotten pineapple pheno C-99 just to name a couple of local favorites from venerable well known lines both absolutely destroy it quality wise IMO.

no doubt ouro

truth is in canada we had 3 phenos of the roadkill

- rasberry buds (kush pheno) - sedative
- big buds (50/50 pheno) - best weed i have ever had
- massive donkey dicks (sativa pheno) - best smell ever, worst effect ever

the top 2 rocked. and were more white then green

the last one was dark green and leafy

A MESSAGE TO SKUNKMAN SAM

Hello everyone , I first would just like to thank Skunkman Sam for all the work you have done, and that the 'roadkill skunk' is my favorite weed of all time, thanks....I am 37 and have been smoking since 1991 I got my first taste of the "roadkill" in 1992 and I will remember that day for the rest of my life....I haven't seen any in along time, and I miss it so much, I used to get so stoned with skunk, unlike any other and I have ever smoked.... That being said I ask you sir,...... PLEASE BRING BACK THE "ROADKILL " Sam,..... I really need it now more than ever, and so dose the rest of the world, I believe it is the best medicinal strain there is in the world....PLEASE I BEG YOU SIR...you will make millions of lives happier and healthier , I mean what other strain are people still talking about wishing they could have, 20 years after it died out.... I am tired of telling all these young people now a days that the best weed ever was going around 20 years ago.... and I truly believe that.....THANK YOU AGAIN<Skunkman SAM, for being the only one in the world to save this strain from extinction, I was so happy to learn that you still have it in a safe place......PLEASE RELEASE THE SKUNK, I BEG YOU SIR, I BEG YOU...
