Don't drug Ivan @Boo he is too smart and will remember it and associate it with the pup.
You don't want to start out with a set issue cuz if it comes down to it he will smash that pup when you're least able to stop him.
Smart dogs are a challenge two smart dogs...........welcome to my world.
😆
Get some good boots you can run in.
I would never give any of my dogs a drug unless it was medicine that helped them heal from one thing or another. That’s just the way I’m built.
I agree, don’t drug him, it will only make him more anxious to what’s going on as it gonna be a big day for all three of you. Dogs work it out. Just be calm and they will too.
I’ve had 13 German Shepherds throughout my life and every one of them was well under control except for rain man. He wanted to eat everybody.
You got a name for him yet?
Nyx meaning night in the Greek language and I think the god or goddess of darkness but you might look it up first but I’m pretty sure it means night tho.
his name is Luca, I liked the name when I heard it on the Godfather on the original movie… I’ve been listens to me very well and I’m sure I can control him. If that doesn’t work, it’s all on me…
Pehaps a muzzle on neutral ground first meeting.
my thoughts exactly. I’m going to pick up a rubber one that’s comfortable for him to wear. I got one off Amazon and it was the biggest they had and it was nowhere close to fitting Ivan‘s gigantic nose. He’s turned out to be a very thick boy… I plan on taking one of the sides to one of my extra crates and fitting it between the gap and the rear seat and between the console and the passenger seat. I pray I have enough experience and foresight to keep everything under control and everybody happy. I didn’t do so well with my ex-wife..🤣

They make them for dogs too?
I had a hard-headed bitch name Gretta who developed the habit of running down and barking at the Chows, running up and down the fence. The original owners had a burn pile and she cut her foot on a piece of glass.I found out about veterinary surgeons. They aren't cheap. So I got a shock collar for her, but it wasn't working and I had it turned to 'high'. She had thick hair and it wasn't making contact with her skin. After adjustment, she went down to do her usual thing and I hit the button. Last time she ever did that. I tested it on myself; I think my heart stopped for a few seconds. The 'buzz' feature usually worked fine after that.

I've never had to use one yet but my dog is a dominant intact male so it might be on his horizon,he claims everything ,has a bad resource guarding issue and tests me all the time,he doesn't like anyone but me,,he tried to mount my son last night when we were working in the garage. He's like a cranky old man, I don't where he gets it.

Are GSD that bad with intros?

Sounds like it's easier to intro 2 pitbulls.

My wife was at the end of our block screaming in terror while our first pit was going crazy trying to get a dog that was off leash. Once I took the leash from her he calmed and they did their butt sniffing thing without incident.

It's all about your energy.
Yep

yep to good energy.

I've never seen a good professional trainer use a shock collar.

My dumbass neighbor uses one and it hasn't changed the dog's behavior one bit in the 2 years I've known him.
It was the only thing that worked on our Jack Russell he was a multireturn pound pup and was a hard biter for his size.
Would bite everyone except me and the wife and our sons.
The youngest sons girlfriend tried to steal him and brought him back a few weeks later cuz he bit everyone.
Put the collar on him give it a beep and instant calmly sitting at my feet and maintaining that until it was clear.
Good thing cuz he had a bite record with the local Sheriff and was on his last chance.

I'm not a professional trainer, but I've had GSD's for over 30 years. Gretta was the only 1 who got the shock collar. She was out of Tekerhook(sP) kennel in the Netherlands-funny looking alligators. All my shepherds spend basically 24/7 with me. From when I get them, I take their bowls away while they eat and mis-behavior means I'll probably be putting them on their back and biting their neck. Lots easier to do when they are pups instead of a 100lb alpha male who knows/likes to 'fight'.
Before you think I abuse my dogs, for a fuck-up I usually loosely roll a newspaper and hit my hand with it while wailing and gnashing my teeth. My displeasure is far more hurtful than hitting.
