There I was in my B-17, with three engines burning and one of them turning... and the autopilot had just bailed out with the last parachute, leaving me with a silkworm and a needle. I was one busy muthafukka...

Just got word that my friend (99 years old) just lost his wife. He is a sweet old guy and also had great stories like Walt. He fought with the 5th Marine Division in the Battle of Iwo Jima for the entirety of the 36-day battle. I’m going to visit him on Tuesday and to her funeral on Saturday.

He was ashore for a coupla days (US Marine) and he was playing pinochle with three other jarheads. Here comes some Army dude, runs up and shouts:
"There's a force of 200 Japs landing on the beach back there!"
The Marines all looked at each other. Finally, my Uncle said:
"Aw shit. I'll go -- I'm dummy this hand anyway."
