I beg to differ.
It comes down to whether they show up to work, or to be woke.
And people that are self motivated don't need to be motivated.
Those are the people I am interested in seeing hired. None less.
I am often asked to critique others work products and their work.
From first hand experience I would avoid hiring Gen X on down.
They're not interested in truly working, They want to be catered to.
Working is doing what you are told. You are getting paid for G sake.
Collaboration / Egalitarian is just another word for an excuse not to.
I was taught that at work you do as asked, and work hard doing so.
If you don't want or like that, leave. Go develop and ap or a startup.
And in the meantime live in your parents basement, and watch TV.
Stay out of sight while you're at it. Don't want to be critiqued by me.
You’re entitled to your opinion, as am I, and I respect that.

I’m not from your country nor am I the same age as you and my values and culture are different to yours.

I was taught to think critically and adapt to change hence why my opinions on management and most likely life in general will differ to yours.

Making generalizations and excluding the majority of the workforce due to age seems a bit biased to Me. You’re missing out on some amazing people. This is called age discrimination where I’m from and it’s illegal.

Yes you do have to sift the wheat from the chafe but same goes with all potential employees regardless of their age, sex and beliefs.

We all had to get our starts somewhere and I owe a lot to My elders that helped me in the beginning of my work life.

We , the elders, owe a debt to the next generation to help them navigate this world and reach their potential, the same as was done for us.

It's called the Merit System from where I'm from. And you can take your "illegal" woke especialness and shove it. It ain't illegal here. I have first hand knowledge about the hiring process, and am actively involved. You think you are amazing because you say so. I'll tell you how amazing you are when I see the rubber meet the road. Big difference. :D

Wokeness is why companies go insolvent, then nobody has a job, woke or not.

You never had a mentor?
I don't remember it that way,you must have had a better work experience than me
Maybe, I’ve had more than my fair share of bad employers that put me physically and legally in harms way.

But I have had a few that invested in Me and helped me to become who I am today and I always be grateful for that.

Except for 15 years with Toyota and the odd filler jobs,I worked construction most of my life and travelled to get hours, you worked with a different crew all the time, you never got tight with your coworkers because you didn't work together long enough to form a relationship, what you learned you picked up along the way because the new guy was the gopher.

And when I worked for Toyota, the people there were even worse than construction ,they would rat you out or try and lead you to failure.
Sounds like the jobs I’ve had in the mining industry.
What job did you have where people bent over to make your work day easy?
I worked at a Grow shop where I was taught the ins and outs of hydroponics, retail and basic business management.

Edit: my job wasn’t made easy quite the contrary. It was made challenging and that’s why it was enjoyable .

What was taught to me about management was from a Dutchman who is now in his 80s.

In the commercial/industrial union building trades you would work with the same people your whole career.

When you are building a 500 foot high rise it's in your best interest to train/mentor the apprentices. If for no other reason than the safety of everyone.

The last job I worked before retiring a guy who was my apprentice 25 years prior was the foreman on the job.

My problems with the younger generation were work ethic, lateness, not showing up and the damn cellphones. The last 5 years I worked I would tell apprentices and journeyman that if I caught them on the phone when they are supposed to be working just pack up your shit and go home. That's your first and only warning.

I've never worked in mines but I have worked in a big quarry where they blasted and screened. It sucked but at least they left you alone,
That was one thing I loved about the mines. I spent most of my day alone in the deep desert driving around in a 4wd :D
I don't like working in crews anymore, too much politics and gossip
Agreed. I prefer working for myself.

The big issue today imo is with the phones on site. Smart phone addiction is rampant.

Imo It can be solved through effective policy and the outlining of expectations from the beginning of employment as you said.

Some folks have latent mental issues and it’s up to us to figure out who it is and how we cope with it… when you live in a bubble, you can make up your own reality…
I hit the gym today for the first time in a week and after being in bed for seven days, I feel like I’ve lost all the strength that I had, but I made it through and feeling quite good… I am fortunate to have such a good friend that wants to train me to help me get stronger.
OMIGAWD! YAY!!

I am just catching up... We had a series of emergencies yesterday and I never got on the net until just now.

Now I gotta go back to catching up... And I gotta hurry, becuz I must go with RedWitch by Uber to some weird "hospital" about 60 miles away. We leave at 7:10.

I have to take her to get her retina drained. They stick a needle in. EEK.

But, like Old Lodgeskins upon hearing the good news about @Boo -- "My heart soars like a hawk!"

Foggy and cloudy with sprinkles, starting at 52F and predicted to reach 77F.

No gym this morning and an empty calendar. Let the debauchery begin!

Touching on the subject/perspective of work ethnics, the generation before me, that grew up during the Great Depression and fought WW-II thought my generation were slackers, and compared to them we ostensibly were, because we never really understood serious hunger.

I always had jobs on the farm that I grew up on, and had my first job working for others around age 10, but most of my professional career was spent managing/supervising hourly employees or salaried professionals, so I got to watch the next three generations enter the work force, which had both good and poor employees, but on average the worth ethic seems to have fallen during that 60+ year period, despite our more enlightened participative management techniques.

Tough times made tougher men than the good times we have enjoyed since the Great Depression. All I can claim is that I've always supported myself since age 17 and while we do draw SS, Grayfox and I continue to pay our own way using our own resources.
