Our red squirrels steal insulation from buildings if they can get in, house themselves in sheds where they shred stuff to build their nests, etc.

They're one of three species (probably more) that I feel little remorse for the removal of; red squirrels, yellow jackets and mosquitos.

Voles are a second-place contender, but they fill a seriously important role in the vast food chain up here. Though you might not suspect it, based on their size.

The voles tunnel throughout the gardens, and in the potato field can create caverns they line with baby spuds and brome hay, and like wolves, fail to eat the entirety of any one item they start on. So, on a bad year one might dig up lots of half-eaten otherwise-decent spuds

Still -40 f here on our porch.

Having my 16-oz. French roast coffee from beans with a dash of 40% heavy whipping cream.

Already split the 16-oz. Freemont Brewing Imperial Winter Ale with my wife.

Puppy, for the first time, got me up at 2:30 A.M. to take her outside to relieve herself. Good thing for her I don't sleep worth a shit.

But she's turning into a real sweety. Just as happy as she can be. especially when she comes back inside from that -40 f. She runs circles then, and curls herself around your ankle in each passing, ears back and wagging like there's no tomorrow.

I have my 16ga double barrel that I hunted quail with as a boy. It is a Western brand which I think is a knock off from Remington. It was old when I got it in the early 60's. Don't think it is safe to fire as the stock has cracked. I tried to get the stock replaces but to expensive to mess with. So It is a conversation piece.
