Nice - I'm not so far now from Phuket - but this group I'm working with don't plan on going there - spent alot of time on Phuket in the past - before major touristic developments - lived in a tree house bungalow there for a couple of months early 80's - 50 Baht per night at the time - (about $1.50) - and great big resinous Buddha Sticks - for 20 Baht - back in the day - on Kata Noi Beach -
Hiya - I'm Absorber's mate. I'm just off to Kata Rocks, a hotel between Kata and Kata Noi beaches my parents are staying in for a few days.. Kata Noi was relatively nice until about 4 years ago - now just a single development. Back in the 80's - my old apartment in Kata would have been on Rice Paddies - seen the photos, it looked so beautiful. We've moved further south now.
Enjoy the Kingdom - stay away from the cops at all cost on Lanta - their rep is no bueno!

Hello 👋
I've always avoided the coppers - where ever possible - and haven't even seen one yet on Lanta - this trip - been coming to Thailand for more than 40 years now - and luckily have managed to avoid any Old Bill activities - so far -
Kata Rocks was simply gorgeous - last time I saw it - must have been 20 year ago - hopefully it's not changed much - and your parents make some treasured memories there -

There was rain forecast for today - but ain't seen any - and looking at the sky - doesn't look likely - any time soon - full on sun mostly right now - the pool is calling 😉

Weather looks better there - we have some fast moving cloud and the occasional shower today. bit annoying our rainy season should be up now. More your side now. Lanta cops - there's been some strange deaths there with some unusual people (Myanmar) convicted. The diving is meant to be great there - all the gap year crowd with money do their Dive Master/Instructor courses there. Now do I have a gummy before I meet my parents or not? They're coming to see the main grow before harvest tomorrow - be rude to charge my Mum for weed I guess? 😂

Yeah - I'd take a gummy before showing the parents all that loverly 'erb treasure - unless your Mum is inclined to giving you a 'clip round the ear' - for growing all that whacky baccy - you naughty boy you - etc - lol - then maybe tripping on a gummy might not be so nice -
- I did all my PADI stuff up to Advanced Diver - in the Philippines - on Cebu mostly - although I have also dived around Thailand - mainly in the Gulf of Thailand - with just a few dives this side of the Thai Peninsula - facing the setting sun - gotta move to the shade 😎 - or I'll broil - 😆

Some music to go with my current head-space - lightly breezy - but hot - 🔥 - so this farang has to watch out that he doesn't fly too near the flames of the sun - kicking back on an outdoor bed - half toked spliff in the ashtray - on monkey patrol - had to shoo off a coupla reconisance monkeys earlier - casing the big villa out - they soon buggered off - once the big blue beach towel came out - swung it about agressively - and I launched into my impersonation of a Mountain Gorilla - beating chest - hoot'in - holler'in - and Voooom! - they were gone -

Good Morning All (OF's):

Wishing each and every one of you, a pleasant morning, wonderful day, and outstanding evening.
I am currently pretty tied up with projects and work, so wanted to start with a daily check in hello.
Today is Sunday. An ordained day of R&R. So, let the enjoyment begin. Glad for the break. TGFW!

See you all tomorrow (again)! (y):)

Yeah - I agree about the Taiwanese - really hospitable and friendly people from my experience - different strokes for different folks - had a great friend in Taipei - Mr Ho - who I had a few adventures with - sterling chap -
I was down in the inner city where us Big Noses do not go because it is just homes with Bill Elam (related to Jack). We were walking down this ten-foot wide covered street and there was this beautiful little kid with two sticks tied loosely together with a string that he was using to balance and flip a 12-inch double cone made of wood.

The kid's mommy came out smiling as we watched, mesmerized by the kid's tricks.

This was back when I could still "sling the bat", so I bowed with a big smile and said in Mandarin:

"Ni syau haidz shr hen tsungming! Jila!" <-- Trans: "Your young/little kid is very/truly brilliant! Super!"

This nearly made her faint. There ain't many big hulking Americans that speak Mandarin. She asked me to take pictures of her kids -- she brought them out. Four, all told. All beautiful.

I had no film in my camera. So I smiled and took at least a dozen pictures of all the kids and mommy, too.

Bill took several pictures of me with the mommy, each kid, and the whole gang.

When we left, Bill Elam looked at me and said, "You are the Ugly American." And took my hand and shook it.

Finest compliment I ever received.

They all seem to. Come down at once taking a couple days. There were shovels full on my deck. I collected a jar of them to look at…

O Lookit -- In that pic above. I believe Subbie has entered the stratified upper reaches! There is clear evidence of ownership of the fabled Left Thumb Trim Callus !!!

A badge of honor not to be sniffed at.

That is the basis for Robert Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" Service = Citizenship.
Everybody else is a passenger with no say in how the world is run.
Yowza -- I just could not remember the title of the dang book. But the other part is also in "Starship Trooper" also. About politicians in the front lines for 90 days. <-- I may be wrong, here. But the idea is not original with me.

I just agree alla way down the line with it.

A cloudy day here with early morning rain, starting at 44F and predicted to reach 56F.

I picked all the large green tomatoes left and will ripen them indoors or eat them green, to beat the squirrels to them. Still a lot of small ones and the plants are still blooming.

I just now learned what a Buddha/Thai stick is. Never saw one in my life.

Morning gang. Time change got the kids messed up. Little George woke me up this morning babbling and saying mama and dada. So glad we had the bad child first. So nice having a happy baby. Our first is awful. Can’t figure out if he’s like me or my dad. Either way. Watch out.

Got the truck finished yesterday. I’ll drop it off in town when I grab some chicken feed this morning. Hope it sells well with this economy. People ain’t buying nothing. Nice pair of turkeys and I can’t get $40 a pop for them this year. If you ever fed a turkey you know it’s the equivalent of a big block engine with a blown power valve in the carburetor 😂. Gas hog. They eat more than anything I’ve seen.
