I like a southern accent. When I get around someone with one mine starts to come back.
I didn't realize how much of an Oklahoma drawl I had until my CA boot camp drill instructor asked me where I got my accent, to which I replied, " what accent?" His response was, "What akceeeeent?"

After moving to Oregon 58 years ago, I still sometimes get called on my Pacific NW Okie akcent, and my little sister living in Mississippi, says I sound like a damn Californian. A stranger in a strange land.

Having lived in Mississippi about as much time as I have been here, she of course has a southern drawl, and just "caan't hepit."

That is the other thang! If I'm around my Oklahoma relatives or my sister who moved to Mississippi, my accent rapidly returns and takes a bit to lose upon returning here.
I always feel more relaxed talking to someone from the south. My southern accent did not go over well in New England Connecticut. I did not enjoy their abrupt art of speaking and almost cried once talking to the locals. I later learned from working with folks from that area it was just their way…
