As many fans know, the MMA world was turned on its head with the news that Brock Lesnar's health could keep him out for an undisclosed time or possibly forever. All fans wanted more information, especially after UFC President Dana White came out and said Lesnar may never fight again.

White also mentioned that Lesnar had an intestinal problem and needed major surgery. Now, as it stands, Lesnar did have surgery yesterday. However, it was a minor not major surgery. Also, it was not for some bacterial infection like many are reporting.

Lesnar has something called diverticulitis. For those of you who are not familiar with this disease, it is one that forms small pouches in the large intestine and the colon, which is no fun whatsoever.

It was set off most likely by mono, considering mono both attacks the spleen and intestines. The disease may have been dormant until he was sick, then suddenly came about.

This happens to a lot in people, so its not uncommon for Lesnar to be fine one day then out of nowhere have something wrong.

The illness has been known to be found among bodybuilders that eat high-protein diets with little fiber. Sure, others can get it too, but the cases in bodybuilders that do as I mentioned have a higher chance.

Now, diverticulitis doesn't always require surgery. However, I would think White and Lesnar agree that it was necessary for him to go ahead and get it now to possibly stop it from getting worse.

It has been known to go into remission on its own, but the chances of Lesnar fighting with it only in remission and possibly coming back are not good. Lesnar should still keep in mind that it doesn't matter if he gets surgery or not, diverticulitis can come back.

So while the surgery may help for now, the chances of it staying away forever are not high.

The doctors are most likely going to give him a diet plan, which will most likely result in him losing significant weight. Also, just for being sick, he could have lost some weight too. And of course, pills will be taken. Adding fiber is one big thing, and if he is not getting enough they will make him take fiber pills and possibly water pills if things get worse.

It is said that diverticulitis, even after getting things surgically taken care of, can take a lot of time to heal. Some have mentioned that it takes a year or longer to feel 100 percent.

Also, most people are not MMA Fighters. So Lesnar may hurt himself even more in his intestinal and colon area if he continues to fight on a full-time basis. While he is good at what he does, he has a greater chance of doing further and life-altering damage to himself by fighting.

While his fans want him to come back, I would take the safe route and call it a career.

Diverticulitis may be the thing that is hurting him now, but it won't be the only thing if he continues on.

Am I saying I don't want to see Lesnar fight? No. I love watching the guy, but as a human being who cares about one's life more so than his career, I would want Lesnar to stay out of Mixed Martial Arts competition.

I would love for him to still be involved with it in some way, but as a competitor, not so much. He has a better chance at being a pro wrestler than he does at coming back to MMA, simply because in pro wrestling people are not trying to hurt one another, in MMA they are.

Who is going to stop an MMA fighter from going straight for Lesnar's weak spot if he returns? UFC? Fans?

No, every single fighter who knows about Lesnar will go immediately for that area to beat him. It is simple fighting mentality. Sure, it may seem wrong to do something like that, but they are there to win, not care for one's livelihood.

What do you want them to do, not try?

Winning is the whole point, and if a fighter knows a way to win he will take it. Therefore, if Lesnar wants to continue to fight then so be it. But he is risking his life by doing so.

He used to tell others, "Here comes the pain," but now he may be telling that to himself.
Well I guess Brocks done... Damn Shame...

Havn't had much access to a computer the last couple weeks and won't for a few more but just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone.

105 really didn't do much for me but it was free so I'm not complaining. Vera -vs- Couture was a horrible fight but I think that Vera should have got the nod. I was surprised to see Hardy beat Swick but it doesn't matter because he's going to get tooled by GSP. He's a huge step down from almost everyone GSP has fought in the last four years. Those were the only two fights I was really looking forward to.

I can't wait for the Brown -vs- Aldo fight tonight. I can't believe that Jose is being so overlooked. I think he's going to absolutely smash Brown just like he's been doing to everyone. I know he's never been knocked out or stopped on a technical knockout but just look at the way Jose has been stomping cats. And if he doesn't, his ground game should put an end to him fast. Mike Brown is no joke but Aldo is a fuckin' beast.

Peace guys, talk to you in a couple weeks.

glad to see aldo win but Im a uriah faber fan... brown is a solid fighter but he couldnt even take out faber with a broken hand. nice to see a new champ. overall good card, wec never fails to impress.

i dont want to take anything away from Aldo, he won the fight fair and square.

what i DO want to bring up is the fact that i think Mike Brown made a costly error in the moments before the fight started. it looked to me like the cutman in Browns corner might have gotten a bit of vaseline in Browns eye. for the first few minutes of the fight it seemed like Brown was having trouble with his left eye.

im not saying that it made a difference, i would have just liked to see him get it taken care of before the bell rang instead of trying to blink it out or wipe it away.

having said all that, Aldo is no fuckin joke. too bad that Fabers hands arent healed yet. (Mrs Babba is gonna yell at me for this one) Id like to see what Aldo could do to Fabers asscrack of a chin.

LoL funny comments ER

I definately noticed brown having issues with the vaseline. I dont think it made much impact but when he went back to his corner would have liked to see them hand him a towel.

Aldo brings so much ferocity its going to be hard for anyone to beat that kid. Hes got a promising future imo.

'Sup Raven? I'm with you on that. Anyone who thinks Faber is the guy to beat Aldo needs to get their head checked. Crazier things have happened and anything is possible in MMA but I just don't see it. I think Urijah would match up better than Brown did but no matter how I look at it the only thing I see is Faber getting smashed. If he tries to keep the fight on the feet than his night will be over very quickly and he won't have much more luck on the ground. I see no way for him to finish the fight so his only chance is to win a decision but there's no way he'll outwork and outscore Jose for atleast 3 rounds. Aldo will finish him within two and in devastating fashion. The kid is hungry and I don't see anyone currently in a position to fight him having much of a chance. As for Brown having any disadvantage in the fight, if that were true he should have had the sense to say something about it and fix the problem knowing that so much was on the line and since he didn't I don't think it was an issue. If it was, it's his fault anyways.

For anyone who doesn't know yet, Faber is scheduled to fight Raphael Assuncao January 10th (WEC 46) with the winner probably getting the next shot. To be honest, I don't even know if I'm comfortable talking about a Faber -vs- Aldo fight because I'm not confidant enough that he can get past Assuncao. I'm not saying he can't, but Assuncao is a legitimate threat. I think alot of people are waiting for Faber to regain the belt and then rule the division again for an extended period of time but I'll bet my left arm that it won't ever happen.

The landscape of the WEC has really changed over the last year with Faber and Torres both not only losing the titles they were supposed to hold onto for forever, but losing them in very convincing fashion. There's also been alot of new contenders emerging and potential future contenders as well. The WEC is deep and I can't wait to see how things play out next year for the promotion. I know it's been shelved for the time being, but I really hope they integrate the flyweight division like they've talked of. I really wish they'd drop the lightweight division all together too but I don't think that's their intentions. Having a lightweight title match between Henderson and Varner as a headliner (ahead of Faber -vs- Assuncao) is rediculous to me.

Next year should be a very exciting year for MMA and I can't wait. There have been alot of changes to UFC 108 already and maybe more are to come, but as it stands right now it's looking tremendous and will be a great start to the new year!

Peace fellas.

Cung Le

i highly recommend watching his fights, maybe the best pound for pound standup fighter in mma. check out his mma and San Shou fights. he is unbeaten so far in mma and San Shou which he is a raining world champion of. San Shou is an awesome style i havent seen before. basically its modern chinese freestyle stand up fighting. it incorporates all the boxing and muay thai techniques with other kicking techniques from kung fu and TKD, as well throws and sweeps. In competitive San Shou points are scored for throws. no ground fighting is allowed, and they only clinch for a few seconds. its an awesome style to wach, and its very effective in mma. check out Cung Le and San Shou on youtube!!!

while Cung is a more than capable striker, he suffers from some form of insanity. if he doesnt then why the hell would he take as much time off as he did, vacate his title and make horrible ass movies? (and didnt make a few too)

im not against fighters making some cash on the side, but if you really want to fight...fuckin fight! if you want to act...then do that. you gotta pick one though.

hmm, so your saying put all your eggs in one basket is the way to go? I think he is very smart personally. Sure we want to see him in more fights, but he is doing it the smart way, i dont blame him. Apparently theres going to be a Cung Le vs Anderson Silva fight, cant wait for that one.

im not saying that he should keep his eggs in one basket. he just needs to figure out what he wants to do. fighters usually do two things well. 1) they fight. 2) they teach others how to fight. (why do you see so many fighters opening up their own gyms?)

if Cung Le was so serious about fighting, why did he seem to duck the Shields fight? Now hes fighting Scott Smith?? dont get me wrong, i like Scott Smith, but Cung Le should take that fight rather easily. Shields would have taken Le out of his element and i dont think that Smith will.

it all comes down to this...
*does his best Dana White voice* "Do you wanna be a fucking fighter?"

Shit I heard Brock had mono or something. I didn't hear about how serious it was and that it could keep him out. That sucks. He was so young in his career and probably could have carried the heavyweight title for a long long time. The man is freak of nature. I'm sure he juices, but juice or not, dude was a still a freak. That sucks!

spastic, from what ive been able to deduce Broc is suffering from a case of mono on top of some intestinal disorder. apparently hes had this intestinal thing for over a year and was never diagnosed. if he has had this thing that long one can only imagine how he would do fighting at 100%.

Dana has tried to keep a lid on what sort of illness Brock actually has, but some details have come to light. im not sure how factual any of it is, im just relaying what ive read.
