Don't need to get all pissy there, bud. You're the one who decided to ask a question that is answered in the very first page of the thread, and even has pictures of the process in the very second post. It's kind of like saying "I'm too fucking lazy to read the thread I'm in, and can't even be bothered to read the first couple of posts, so will you guys be my lackeys and just answer my questions?"

If you can't even read the first few posts, why should anyone bother to answer your questions? What a waste of time, don't you think? RIU may perhaps be the best place for ya, because icmag is a wonderful community filled with some of the most knowledgeable growers anywhere, but most of the folks here do expect you to put in at least minimal effort to learn something :D

p.s.- you SHOULD be sorry for asking such a stupid, page-one-of-this-thread, question. And the finger I got in the air ain't my pinky!

Hi everyone,
Welcome to the official hempy bucket thread, several years ago now I was among the first if not the first growers to give hempys method a try and had excellent success right away. From that point on, the method has literally spread all over the world and is being used in even the most remote of locations. What we have is a very basic method of cultivation, that with the appropriate environment conditions allow the plants to flourish in a very simple method that even the most inexperienced growers can find success in.

Having used it for several years now, my advice for anyone is to follow hempys basic instructions and too develop a comfort level with the system before experimenting with different mediums like turface, coco etc. One of the great things about hempys method is its flexibility in the mediums the grower can use. There are many reports of satisfied growers who used coco in stead of the traditional perlite and vermiculite reciple. Also great success has been found with just straight perlite. So the ability of hempys method to flourish under numerous different mediums and its practicality and ease of use make it an alluring method of cultivation for the novice to expert grower.

The original method, as by hempy himself. (Dalaihempy here at Icmag)

And for those who like a little visual stimulation, a video I put together detailing the above method.

Good luck out there people, if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a pm and I will do my best to help you out. I hope this thread helps some of you out there finally get the crop you always wanted. I promise you it can be done.

Peace compadres.
Hi I have made a hempy bucket but I really need some advice on getting started...I have two little seedlings just germinated in peat pellets with the first two tiny little leaves and about 1-2 inches tall...first question...are they ready for the bucket and if so do i need to soak the whole bucket of perlite with water or plant in dry perlite as after I washed it it has gone dry.
Or do I plant in dryish perlite and just water round the seedling at first.....I was also told to only use root stimulator in water for the first week before using the three Dutch formula....is this correct...and is it correct to use half strength solution when you start to use it...and again do you pour lots of solution water mix to reach the bottom and come out of the hole or just around the small plant at first.....help mucho appreciated....

Are they ready for the bucket?

How big's the bucket? I wouldn't put them in a big bucket yet, because you'll be wasting nutes.

I would re-moisten the perlite b4 putting your seedling in there.

I would just use plain H2O for the first week , then go 1/4 or 1/2 strength for another week.

After the first day, feed/water til it comes out the hole.

All this is just my opinion. All your questions are probably answered better elsewhere in this thread somewhere, so read it.

So long as you don't ask retarded questions like, "How do you water hempy buckets", people will be glad to help you. (No offense to retarded people).

Good luck.

i started my last seed run in hempy cups with straight perlite 2 years ago. I am about to do it again so this will be a good refresher. First thing i would do if i was you is find a thread about starting seeds in peat pellets and transplanting. you may want to wait until you get some roots poking out. seedling generally dont need much food for the first week or two. but they will need it sooner rather than later if they are not getting anything from the soil. just watch them if they start to lighten up in color or yellow slightly they want food. If i remember correctly i watered them lightly with 1/8 strength nutes ph'd to around 6 every day or day and a half using some sort of turkey baster but that was in perlite under t-8s. You just want to make sure its not drying out on top too much. other than that it was easy just try to stay close and read the plants. hunger could also look like a ph problem or drowning symptoms but i did not encounter that. I used lucas formula 1ml micro to 2ml grow and moved up from there gradually.

I got my instructions from page one of this thread and I thought I read somewhere in there that you could use full strength nutes pretty much from the get-go. That's what I have been doing and no problems thus far and this includes some started from seed. I am using GH flora series, but in the process of using up the last of that to go MaxiBloom instead. I guess I am saying I do not agree with the diluted nutrients theory based on the little bit of hempy experience I have. I have also been lax about flushing every couple of feedings or so, but so far so good and I do not plan to push my luck. Reading about things is great, but doing them is the best way to learn what really works and what does not, especially since many who share information do not have a truly scientific approach using things like control groups, etc. Seriously, how do you compare grams per watt when everyone is growing different shit with different equipment with different environmental elements?

In regards to watering hempy, I probably water more than many do, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. I flood my solo cups and then let then drain so the roots aren't swimming, although once big enough, the plants will suck up the reservoir quickly. I also re-use run-off from one feeding to the next since this is not a traditional hydro application where the roots are constantly pulling nutrients from a a shared pool. I am sure there are some people who would school the crap out of me on this stuff, but this is my experience thus far and I am going to wrap up my first hempy grow in the next few weeks or so (and it looks great!!!).

from seedling full strength. i dont know man. i can tell you i burnt the tips of one or two week old seedlings with my mix. maybe i will try it on one but better to be safe than sorry. we all do it a little different. pretty much from the get go and the get go are a little different. i give clones full strength right off after i see roots. but i also know i have given full strength to unrooted clones and still got roots.

alot can really depend on the medium too. i clone in a 50/50 mix of perlite and vermiculite in 3 oz cups. then switch to straight perlite. i just switched to the bigger perlite and i must say i am really impressed but it is going to dry out a lot faster. the biggest piece of my old perlite is smaller than the smallest piece of the big stuff. so glad i made the switch less dust more air to the roots heavier. only been 5 days so i will reserve final judgement.

I was doing 3:1 perlite/vermiculite, but that gets all over the place, even when I am careful. I haven't seen the big perlite you're talking about, but in the meantime I am giving coir a go and that seems to be less messy. I am also going to stop using perlite in my pot and cup bottoms and go w/ the puffy clay which is much bigger chunks than perlite. I don't know that I would want to deal with what will probably be a lot of watering with the giant perlite/vermiculite approach, but it may end up being not too bad. I think coir will retain moisture as well as verm., maybe better, and that was another reason to try coir. Who knows, maybe I will decide the perlite mix is better.

I was using perlite / vermiculite mix for quite a while with good success, but I know what you mean about the mess. I've started using coco hempys and I don't think that I'll use anything else from here on.
I use perlite in the bottom and the roots break free easily when transplanting. I've thought of clay or hydroton, but have surplus of perlite and it works just fine.

If you're interested in coco hempys, check out my journals in progress, lots of pics and info.

Ive started another Hempy run. These plants are at about 5 weeks. Started them in Jiffy pellets, then Solo cups and transplanted to Hempy pots last week . Growth was exponential once I put them in the final Hempy buckets, overnight. Just started with 12/12 two nights ago as they have started to show pre-flowers in the last two days . Four females so far.
Ive got a few Grindhouse Ultra Sonjas, a single feminized White Rhino, some "Purple Loco" (GDP X Black Domina) plants, a single Maple Leaf Indica and one of my SweetestCindy99 x Bubblicious crosses. Feeding 3/4 tsp. FloraNova Bloom with an occasional shot of Floralicious . Supplemented lightly with Cal/mag and Silica. Room temps about 81 F. at lights on and around 75 F. at lights off. RH around 55-60% right now.

You guys have any ideas for setting up an auto watering system for these? Just something to last a week or so.

Blumats, I don't think they are to be used with this application of growing though. (hempy Buckets) There is a thread on here about growing in coco with the Blumats.

wanted to tell all my fellow hempiers a funny experience at the most knowledgeable hydro store in my area. so i went in there to get some nutes and asked them if they could help me piece together a good drip system. Well they asked me what i was doing. So i explained what i did and how i did not have to worry about ph too much, used an internal res, and so on and so forth but i obviously could not say the words hempy bucket and i did not want to use the words lucas.

well as i was explaining i could see there jaw drop lower and lower and there head start going back and forth the more i explained. So the first one pipes up after i was done and says you don't have to worry about ph in a you are an idiot kind of tone. well i said a little but not so much. the the second one interjects "internal res i would never do that it it will not work". then the last one says don't believe anything you read on the internet.

Well i explain i have been doing this for some time and its a proven method and they should check it out. but by this time they had stopped listening and totally dismissed me. then the last one says "well if it works for you" as he turns around.
