Don't need to get all pissy there, bud. You're the one who decided to ask a question that is answered in the very first page of the thread, and even has pictures of the process in the very second post. It's kind of like saying "I'm too fucking lazy to read the thread I'm in, and can't even be bothered to read the first couple of posts, so will you guys be my lackeys and just answer my questions?"WOW ! Sorry for asking, I thought these sites was for people who need help with growing didn't know this is a little finger in the air wail I sip tea site. I'll unreg and jump back over to RIU !!!... Again SORRY for asking .......
Hi I have made a hempy bucket but I really need some advice on getting started...I have two little seedlings just germinated in peat pellets with the first two tiny little leaves and about 1-2 inches tall...first question...are they ready for the bucket and if so do i need to soak the whole bucket of perlite with water or plant in dry perlite as after I washed it it has gone dry.Hi everyone,
Welcome to the official hempy bucket thread, several years ago now I was among the first if not the first growers to give hempys method a try and had excellent success right away. From that point on, the method has literally spread all over the world and is being used in even the most remote of locations. What we have is a very basic method of cultivation, that with the appropriate environment conditions allow the plants to flourish in a very simple method that even the most inexperienced growers can find success in.
Having used it for several years now, my advice for anyone is to follow hempys basic instructions and too develop a comfort level with the system before experimenting with different mediums like turface, coco etc. One of the great things about hempys method is its flexibility in the mediums the grower can use. There are many reports of satisfied growers who used coco in stead of the traditional perlite and vermiculite reciple. Also great success has been found with just straight perlite. So the ability of hempys method to flourish under numerous different mediums and its practicality and ease of use make it an alluring method of cultivation for the novice to expert grower.
The original method, as by hempy himself. (Dalaihempy here at Icmag)
And for those who like a little visual stimulation, a video I put together detailing the above method.

Good luck out there people, if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a pm and I will do my best to help you out. I hope this thread helps some of you out there finally get the crop you always wanted. I promise you it can be done.
Peace compadres.
i started my last seed run in hempy cups with straight perlite 2 years ago. I am about to do it again so this will be a good refresher. First thing i would do if i was you is find a thread about starting seeds in peat pellets and transplanting. you may want to wait until you get some roots poking out. seedling generally dont need much food for the first week or two. but they will need it sooner rather than later if they are not getting anything from the soil. just watch them if they start to lighten up in color or yellow slightly they want food. If i remember correctly i watered them lightly with 1/8 strength nutes ph'd to around 6 every day or day and a half using some sort of turkey baster but that was in perlite under t-8s. You just want to make sure its not drying out on top too much. other than that it was easy just try to stay close and read the plants. hunger could also look like a ph problem or drowning symptoms but i did not encounter that. I used lucas formula 1ml micro to 2ml grow and moved up from there gradually.
alot can really depend on the medium too. i clone in a 50/50 mix of perlite and vermiculite in 3 oz cups. then switch to straight perlite. i just switched to the bigger perlite and i must say i am really impressed but it is going to dry out a lot faster. the biggest piece of my old perlite is smaller than the smallest piece of the big stuff. so glad i made the switch less dust more air to the roots heavier. only been 5 days so i will reserve final judgement.
I was doing 3:1 perlite/vermiculite, but that gets all over the place, even when I am careful. I haven't seen the big perlite you're talking about, but in the meantime I am giving coir a go and that seems to be less messy. I am also going to stop using perlite in my pot and cup bottoms and go w/ the puffy clay which is much bigger chunks than perlite. I don't know that I would want to deal with what will probably be a lot of watering with the giant perlite/vermiculite approach, but it may end up being not too bad. I think coir will retain moisture as well as verm., maybe better, and that was another reason to try coir. Who knows, maybe I will decide the perlite mix is better.
