haha thanks man
...you see grasshopper, if we start on the same day, me with my 10 'clone-lings' and you with your single 'clone-ling', 8 weeks later, when your clone has vegged enough to be flipped and start the process of becoming that 'go big or go home' monster, i'm harvesting my 10 'pretty little things's and starting 10 more.
...just because people do things differently than you doesn't make them wrong or you right.
Bozo
I got this. Use these, they work! Use them for a few days before you leave, to make sure, but yeah, these are great for vacations.so I'm going to be away from my little girls for a few days next week for the holiday and need to figure out how im going to have them fed. Any ideas?
. They, of course, are not willing to do a side by side grow because they think it will grow less flavorful weed. I am not willing to give up the ease of a hempy bucket just to prove them wrong.Weed grown in soil/organic soil tastes so much better than anything grown in hydro
ASK ASK ASK!!!! that is the number one thing i've learned since i've been here. Everyone is more then willing to help, and you should definitely listen, cuz im sure glad that i have. This is my first grow as well, and I am so glad i went with hempies!!!! its just so flippin easy!! I had already started to buy the materials for a rockwool grow when i heard about this thread. (thanks to @someotherguy). So hey, grab the materials and give it a go!! People will be here to helpHey guys!,
The thread you have on the Hempy Bucket here is amazing! Wow, some great results! I have a few questions though: 1) Could I use grow stones as the medium?
This one has been touched on a few times, you CAN use them, but it is not recommended because of their non existent wicking abilities, it would just lead to more frequent watering. The original 3 parts perlite 1 part vermiculite is probably the best bet. It is the original and it seems to be the easiest to deal with from all of my reading. I personally am running 100% perlite and really wish i had the vermiculite in there, i have to feed once or twice a day.
2) When I feed/water, do i alternate like I do in soil now?
You've got to feed with every watering (maybe a few flushes along the way). In this passive hydro system, the medium contains no nutrients like your soil does. You have to supply everything for the plant.
3) Go straight to full strength right from the get go?
Hempy himself said to go with full nutes from the start, i personally started with bad nutes for this system and have since switched to FloraNova Bloom as i run 12/12. Been feeding full strength ever since.
4) When you say check the PH, that means after I've mixed my nutes together? Not the runoff PH? Because I don't check the runoff now, lol
There really isn't a need to check your run-off pH. You want to check your pH of your nute mix before you feed. With a pH buffering nute system like the FloraNova line you dont have to really worry about this. I only check every once in a while to make sure things aren't off. Your shooting for between 5.5 and 6.5
5) How much runoff should I see?
Once there is runoff, stop watering. There is no need to waste your nutrient solution is there? lol
Sorry about all the questions... I'm very interested in trying this! When I first started growing my medicine, I bought everything needed to make a recirculating hydro setup. Just have been too scared, or nervous to try, lol. & the water, & if the electricity goes out-all the pumps
thanks for adding that stihg, didnt really know that, never heard that before. How would perlite affect the pH like that?you wanna check the ph going in and the ph going out to make sure you arent putting in nutes at 6.0 and your media is dropping it to 3 or raising it to 8.
thanks for adding that stihg, didnt really know that, never heard that before. How would perlite affect the pH like that?
Perlite has about a neutral pH of 7. If your runoff is way different than what you are putting in, that is because there are dry salts (from the nutes you feed) that build up when the perlite gets too dry.
For example, if you start with plain water with a pH above 7 and add nutrients and correct pH to 6.2, and your runoff pH is 5.5. That means you must have had lots of salts sitting around that were mixed into your most recent watering so your recent feed not only had a pH out of range, but was too strong. If the pH rose to 6.8, your probably not feeding your plants enough.
The whole thing about allowing some runoff every time you water is to keep a stable pH. So, if you are putting in the correct pH and strength of nutrients every time, you don't have to worry about what is coming out in the runoff.
