The OBBT Grow Show!

You GUYS!

You GUYS!

Hahahaha, you guys, this is the shit!

This little movement is really starting to pick up some speed now! The flow of information continues even in my absence, I think I know a bit how DM felt when he decided that he didn't need to be around so much anymore. Its incredibly gratifying to see all the progress that goes on because of us.

Kanye WeED:

Hey man, now you're getting it! Looks like you went with rrog's excellent bucket design, it looks very well-built!

Pump failure is an issue but not as huge as you might think. Once the incubation period is over the need for super-aggressive oxygen injection kindof goes away. Its still very helpful to have lots of oxygen, just not as necessary. I've run tests to see how the plants react to pump faliure. I've got a 5-port valved manifold on my air rig, which lets me cut the air flow to any one bucket. On my last grow I cut the air supply to one bucket for 5 days and saw no discernible difference. Once the medium has been incubated and 'brought to life' it becomes surprisingly resilient and resistant to change.

You look right on track buddy, see, told ya you didn't have to be an Urkle! Once you've wrapped your head around the concept its really straight-forward.

SilverSurfer_OG: Nice little harvest you got there buddy! Glad to see you had success to the end. I would try a much smaller tub next time, either that or a much bigger plant!

rrog: That's a strong possibility! The thing is though I've always liked pearlite not only because it does a good job retaining moisture but also its a great reflector of radiant energy. It does a fabulous job of protecting the sensitive fungus from blasts of light and IR radiation that comes from powerful grow lamps. Not sure landscape fabric would do that job as well. I think the OBBTs will always need a 'mulch' of some kind.

FromdaBrush0G:

Welcome my son! I see you don't need any questions answered. No fucking about, lock-n-load, you're ready to just do it! That is what I like to see. Your grow room looks ship-shape and your tubs are almost disturbingly similar to mine! Good luck with your run, keep us updated on the progress.

RipVanWeed:

OBBT ROCKS....OBBT is the SHIT!!!!

Respect,

Hahaha, ole buddy, that put a bigger grin on my face than a 4-gram dutch coner FULL of blueberry bubblegum! :woohoo:

Dude, you continue to impress!! Good call on the 2-stage harvest. Those rear nugs will definitely benefit from some extra time in the direct light. Looks like you're dealing with some significant bud-mass. Looking forward to hearing what your final weight is. Glad to hear that they feel good in your hands! I just went back and noticed your little mention in a previous post. You're gonna build a bigger flowering chamber!? Holy shit man! Given what we've seen you do in that little cabinet on your second ever indoor grow attempt makes me think what you've got planned for that larger space in your garage is gonna just blow us away!

Glad to hear from so many of you! Given all this recent activity I think the time is ripe to go forward with Club Bio Box. Later today I'm gonna get good and baked and then do a nice concise write-up for the first post. Look out for the home thread to appear in the main grower's forums. I will be sending out PMs to all the critical early members who need to make some good solid posts so that we can get this thing up off the ground; I really wanna generate some solid interest in a high-traffic area of the forums.

As exciting as things are at the moment I think the party has just gotten started. Lets see what ICmag at large makes of our rag-tag bunch of organic miss-fits! :joint:

RipVW that is a very sweet looking first stage harvest. WOW. Thanks for taking the time to post those.

Surfer. This is your second bucket grow now? Sweet looking.

LadyL thanks for the thought on the Perlite vs. fabric. I may use both. I like the neat and tidy surface that a fabric surface offers. I'll use a skim of perlite and then the fabric. As far as I can tell, both are doing the same thing. I guess I should start a grow log or add to my existing build-a-bucket thread.

You could probably use tyvek or typar. The outside is white for the reflection, it allows air to pass thru but not moisture. The only downside is it does not come in small quantities, but if you know somebody that does siding you could ask for scraps.

Hey yeah i plan on a MUCH bigger plant! ;) I made the mistake last time in thinking two plants would be a good idea...

This is the end of my first grow rrog. Now i have two buckets to play with.

Hey thanks for the thumbs up ladyL. I think im gonna go out today, and get some lime, and vermiculite, and thats about all. I may go threw ur post a lil bit more and pic up a few more cheap items u mentioned, i just dont wanna go to over board.

As far as the plants i already have in the coco that i got from menards they are growing SLOWLY but surely, everytime i water them i use a chem flower booster 10-45-10 so hopefully thats a good thing, and ill keep yaw posted on how that goes

glad i got the right bucket for the job, ill be going over ur introduction post more so i may be adding a few materials to my list up there in my first paragraph

and yes the movement is coming right along, ive even posted the link to this thread in other forums and sites hoping to spark a few other friends interest hope u dont mind, but the way u explain shit has a way of pulling people in and lighting a fire under there ass like u did mine, i still cant sit down straight on my left ass cheek!!!

Good discussion guys!

CLUB BIO BOX IS UP!

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=2700242#post2700242

As I said, early support will be crucial so lets get those images in there!

rrog:

A combo sounds good! That sort of matirial could definitely bring the needed thickness of the pearlite down. I tend to cap with a really thick 1-1.5 inch layer of big chunky pearlite. What you could do instead is lay that fabric directly on top of the finished incubated medium and then just cover it in a thin .25-.5 inch layer of very fine pearlite pebbles.

Improvement to the upper 'mulch' later could definitely be made, keep looking into it buddy! I sort of like the sound of the cocoa bean shells that user FromdaBrush0G mentioned.

Well!

In all the excitement I kindof forgot that this is my grow diary! About that:

The white widows bounced back from that little foible from the recent heavy training no problem at all. Whatever caused the center three plants to wither up and die has had no effect on the Widows. I mean look at this:

Check out the bottom-right corner. See that? Yea, I know, wild huh!? A heavy supercrop left this stem section hanging by a thread. I twisted it around and propped it up on the screen. Look further up the stem though. The attached growth tip is fine and budding up beautifully, just as well as any of the others.

Anyway

White Widow #1

White Widow #2

They're starting to bud up very rapidly. Its funny I can pick out the growth tips that are gonna bud from the tips that are gonna stretch out more.

In an effort to keep stretch going for as long as possible and get maximum bud locations I will be skipping the first flush/starve cycle. Flush/starve tends to make the plants fall into line, they almost always quit stretching after first starve and get into the meat & potatoes of budswell. At this point I want to prolong the green stretchy stage as much as I can. Genetics are on my side. White Widow is quite a long-flowering sativa. I should be able to keep the growth going for a bit longer.

So no starve cycle for now. Gonna feed them with a light 1/2/0 tea loaded with extra molasses for some all-natural CAL-MAG. Keeping the water level high for now so they stay green and springy. In about a week I'm sure I will have completely wrung out all of the stretch that they are capable of doing. After that it will be on to a heavy flush/starve cycle followed by a monster 1/3/2 bud tea and some UV-B radiation!

Till then, stay tuned everyone! Keep an eye on Club Bio Box for me :joint:

and a nice detailed grow diary it is lady l

im growing white widow to how about that

ill have to go over your grow more later on cause odviously im concentrating more on what i need right now, but yea ur plants look real nice and healthy, and im glad to hear they have rapid growth, i must say tho, i do see some yellowing, are u using any nutes at all???

ohh and where and what is club bio box? Is this the forum u r trying to get for us? I would think that the mods would say " well its really to close to coco to have its OWN forums plus there is not enough traffic", and if that is the case y not start a poll or do u think its to early???

Hehe, thanks for the concern KW.

The plants have had little nutrition other than what was pre-loaded into the soil. I did give them their first mild flower tea a while back, but I drained it out less that 24 hours later when the plants had their awful Kenetin reaction.

The 'yellowing' you see is actually an illusion though. The normal growth that has gotten old is just so dark that it makes the younger growth look yellow. In fact, that stuff is a nice green on its own, but the massive gap between the color of the older and the color of the newer stretches beyond what a camera can capture. So it ends up looking yellow.

Also, the lights I'm using aren't helping, look:

Left and right images are pretty much identical. Difference is the right image is under my General Electric Plant and Aquarium tubes. The left image is under GE daylight 6500K tubes. The P&A tubes give off a very red light for floros. So when you look at my plants which you know to be under floros they look a little yellow and pale compared to other plants under floros. The reality is that the much redder light is just washing out the color in the image. Just look at some of RVW's pics. The color of the plants looks like shit under that big red 1000 watt HID. But when he takes the plants out of the cabinet and shoots them under normal light they look great. Same sort of thing going on here.

Club Bio Box is not us vying for our own section of the forums (not yet at least). In leau of having our own slice of the forums to ourselves I have started a 'home' thread for all Bio Box gardeners on this site. The idea is to raise awareness about this new cultivation technique by showing off current grows that use it. All OBBT-users are encouraged to post update images of their grows in that thread and answer questions that users new to the technique might have. Posting ediquite and the desired content of the thread are covered in my first post; go have a look!

well im glad to hear that the yellowing i seen was just an illusion, and not the real thing. I gotta learn to have more faith i guess, how ever ur method of not using any nutes kinda scares me and i dont understand it, u should def nute more often but who am i to tell u, the creator of obbt, lol

but yes i cant wait to post some pics of my under way obbt grow bio bucket or what ever its called, ill be able to get a grasp on it on a more hands on feel that way, and ill be more than happy to help answer anyones question that want to start this method up also

ok im bout to get a list of what all u got for ur obbt from ur first post and go to lowes and see what it is that they have that u mention. Im telling u now they wont have everything, but im hoping they have the lime and dolomite and stuff like that

wish me luck and thanks!!!

ohh and for the water im gonna use for my obbt bucket grow, its in a 5 gallon jug, im just gonna leave the cap off of it for like the remainder of the time that im waiting for the plants to get done flowering that i have to move to make space for the bucket. This will beef up my microbe activity correct??

Hehe, mate, you don't use 'no nutes', I just didnt use a lot in veg.

All my nutes through veg where pre-loaded into the medium. Mine was unusual though. I had a very short veg and a VERY HOT medium. Most people will want to use less pre-loaded nutes and add more later as tea.

I've added nutes now, twice. Already added a pretty heavy tea, but took it out when I had troubles. I've bubbled up a fresh tea and now will be adding it to the tubs. Nute usage will get heavier as I get later on into flower:

Will be bubbling up quite a few more nute teas like this.

You should be letting your tap water sit out, but it won't help add to your microbes. It just removes excess chlorine from the water, which can kill off microbes. Get this extra chlorine out of tap water and its well-suited for organics. You still need an independent source of beneficial microbes, like Espoma products or something more specialized like Humbolt's Myco Madness.

Keep an eye on this space. I will be using plenty of nutes coming up as I settle into budswell :joint:

hey thanks ladyL, and im fresh back from lowes with a good and bad story

bad news first is i really wanted some of that myco madness stuff and they aint have it so what i did get was like plant-tone, and it says its full of microbes, and thinks like that so im hoping thats good, i got some more peat moss, and lava rock, and i also got everything im gonna need to do a drip system, im really excited about that also

im gonna try like a 14 plant coco grow and a 4 or 6 plant rockwool grow and what ever i get the best results from, wins.....

im sure they will both be the same pretty much tho

ohh also i found the fast acting lime but it said for lawn care and i didnt know if it was the right stuff or not so i said better safe than sorry

got most of the stuff i need tho, now im off wish me luck...

ladyL..
i use bud swell to, on my soil plants and they seem to love it up, so im sure yours will to, im giving the last of my hydro plants a good strong dose of GH and kool bloom tonight for about a week or 2 then im gonna be flushing them out for a week or maybe a lil more

ohh and i think that plant tone is a espoma product, so lets see how that goes

im on my way yaw, ill be posting some amazing pics later, amybe not tonight but at the latest next weekend

think im gonna build up everything tonight

thanks yawll!!!

Well

The remaining plants are doing well. After dumping out my first, possibly too potassium-heavy first tea, this new simpler tea is doing well. Just fish emulsion (2-4-0) and lots of molasses.

As the plants slipped out of my induced sexless stretch and into flower some interesting stuff has happened. All of the furthest-lying, oldest growth tips have started exploding into buds, very quickly.

The older trifolate offshoots on WW#2 (right image) especially have really started to wad up.

On the other hand though, I still have a lot of this sort of thing:

New-but-rapidly-maturing compound offshoots. They are nice and tight with lots of bud locations, but no pistils yet. Some of them, like the pictured one, are tiny. As the many large cola offshoots and head colas have sped away from the center of the plants the big open space they left behind has been filled with growth like this.

Its all similar. No pistils yet, just fast tight growth with minimal stretch. I'm going to allow all these little things to fill in now. The large offshoots have quickly slowed down in putting on 'height' as they have been capped with these new buds. The appearance of new little compound offshoots has stopped completely and only the pre-existing ones will now grow.

As soon as this smaller filler foliage matures and starts to bud up as well I will finally execute my first starve cycle. That will punt the plants off into heavy budswell and then we'll see the real bulk of my tea usage.

Till then, stay tuned :joint:

cant wait for them to make that penny look like a speck of copper!!!

i think im gonna build one of my buckets tonight, be forewarned tho if i dont like this method i will let it be known cause i put out some gooood money, but if i do like it i will quote this post right here many times over, maybe even put it in my sig, to tell the WORLD, its the best way for me, maybe not EVERY 1, but ohh yes for #1

if i dont like it tho, dont worry i wont state that in your thread thatd be completley disrespectful, but im hoping i will!!!

My understanding of this is that there's benefical microbes and fugi spores in many different products we may use. The MycoMad only improves the diversity and the speed of the mediums innoculation. Use what you got if is has Mycorrzial Fungi and Benefical Microbes...Disclaimer....I'm only harvesting my 2nd grow, I'm no expert.

Respect,
