I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you're looking for a 'fertilizer' then I'm afraid that you will be very disappointed. Steiner's biodynamic processes are all about soil building over several years. The process is pretty exact - even down to which direction you should stir the water & powders. Seriously.

It's pretty esoteric so reading a few article would probably be informative & helpful. The governing body for biodynamic certification around the world is Demeter which is based in Germany where it started.

Each country that has certified biodynamic farming will have a branch. In America that would be Demeter-USA which is based in Oregon. Most states will have a statewide organization and so on.

Start with the link to Demeter-USA and see what you think. There's a bit more involved that one might think if you're beginning to scratch the surface.

Thanks CC ive just started some biodynamic research this year...

A good friend from highschool finally came home from UMO for good finally, where he'd been studying sustainable agriculture and just got his masters degree with a concentration in greenhouse managment.
Ive been bouncing SOOOO many questions and theorys off of him, and he suggested some biodynamic pratices but it is pretty outrageous how they maintain there practices!!!!

The BD compost prep i purchased from Fedco had nothing to do with biodynamic research at all, just kinda bought it on a whim and was gunna see if it help improve my compost(veggie garden first).

Was only 12.50 and it has all 7 "holy" plants so i figured what the hell ill use it at suggested rates along with what i usually do (years table scraps, + coffe grounds, + leaves, +worms) and see if it helps if so try it on the cannabis compost pile ill be starting up soon...

hi am wondering if any one does smoke their males? I am smoking wet male flowers N-H right now, and i feel pretty stoned, not harsh tastes good, not like the flavor of blue cheese or grape ape, more like a mellow incense i haven't smoked before



I am not sure what you mean about issues? I am trying out a home made "bloom fert" right now, made of 4 cups (washed) kelp, mixed with macerated misc. sprouts and macerated yarrow tops.

Hey rising moon i saw this product at fedco this year and decided to pick up the compost starter prep for are veggie garden compost pile. (the #500 #502-507)


I was wondering if you use these products for your cannabis garden, and if so what #'s and at what rates, if you dont mind sharing...?


I checked there website when i got home and they have SOOO many concentrate powders
-Yarrow
-Chamomile
-Stinging nettle
-Oak bark
-Dandelion
-Valerian
-Horestail
And they are only like $3-$5 bucks each but i couldnt figure out a proper/SAFE usage rate for my MJ garden...

I use the products as recommended on the package, but also, I currently don't use the 'Pfeiffer Compost Starter', which is a concentrated, product designed for inoculating your home scale compost pile with cosmic forces, specific bacteria and all the BD preps in one spray.

I have used it in the past, with really great results, but after diving much deeper into Biodynamics, I went ahead and ordered the entire compost set and the #500 and #501 this year in order to fully treat my garden/yard, and inoculate all my indoor ROLS totes.

Anyone looking for a great one and done BD spray should check out this one: "Prepared 500" - Created by Alex Podolinsky (Australia); includes BD #502-507. Same as BD #500, but with the added influences of the BD Compost Preps. For situations where there is not sufficient BD compost.

In Australian practice, although “Prepared” 500 was initially used only after two years application of regular BD #500, further experience now calls for its use from the very beginning of conversion to biodynamic agriculture in virtually every case. Used as a soil spray to stimulate root growth and humus formation. One unit is enough for up to one acre when stirred properly.

anyone incorporated any BD practices into there Medical Cannabis...?

I occasionally buy Demeter certified compost, only because I know they have some extreme hoops to jump through to get certified. Otherwise biodynamics is more like a philosophical stepping stone that led to todays organic practices....kinda like Alfred Wegner's theory of continental drift and today's plate tectonics. Here's a quote from someone that explained it to me:

"What I think may be missing here is to look at who Rudolf Steiner was - and he was not a farmer or even a scientist, per se. What he was was a philosopher whose orientation came out of the reaction to the industrialization in Germany in the late 19th Century and the destruction brought on by WWI.

The book 'Bread From Stones' (free as an eBook, BTW) was the beginning of this backlash in their complete and total rejection of Justus Von Liebig's theories on the N-P-K paradigm.

Where the science came about was the work of a student of Steiner, Dr. Ehrenfried Pfeiffer (The Pfeiffer Foundation in Spring Valley, NY). It was his work in the area of soil biology in the 1940's and 1950's that became the basis of much research and investigation over the past 50 years.

I'd put myself in the group that takes from Biodynamic farming those methods that make sense. Burying a horn in a field under a full moon in October (but not November) and only stirring a plant tea counter clockwise 10 times and then reverse the stirring makes no sense at all.

Using what goes into the horn or plant tea - that can be studied, tested and evaluated.

I have some of the Coco Libre already from Wholefoods. They only sell them as singles though no cases. I do have a Costco right near me so i will check them out and see if they carry the cases here in Canada.

Do you have a Costco warehouse store nearby? They carry two coconut water products, Vita Coca which is 'okay' and Coco Libre which is top shelf - certified organic (USDA) and it's cheap.

The Costco price on Coco Libre is $11.99 for 4 x 1 liter bottles. If you don't have Costco check their Store Locator and see if there's anything that makes sense.

You could also look for Vita Coco which is not organic but it's decent.

When looking at products of any type, including food, the term 'natural' has absolutely no meaning whatsoever. That designation can be put on anything and still be in compliance with labeling laws.

Fresh young coconuts which are the white ones vs. the brown coconuts are always found at Mexican, Caribbean, Central American, Vietnamese Thai food markets. These markets also carry coconut water so it comes down to reading the label and in this case you really want to avoid preservatives, even the so-called safe ones.

I'd seek out the Coco Libre product first and see if you're successful finding it.

Yeah but that doesn't mean that horn is collecting cosmic energy or that a horn or an antler collect different cosmic energies. The biodynamic method gets a lot right, but stuff like that is not only not rooted in science it's nigh unprovable. Some of those recipies might as well be called witches spells they're so formulaic.

Mr. Sterling, Its not provable from either side, so maybe best not to debate it...

They used to sound like pure craziness to me as well, but Ive gotten more and more interested over the years, and once in a while I still find it hard to believe on my 'Skeptic' days...

But the more I think about the teachings, and WHY they do what they do, the more I understand the purpose and meaning.

They are indeed akin to spells, Alchemy and the pseudosciences, but unless you have actually read the Agriculture coarse by Steiner, you shouldn't really say anything about it.

I was shocked after reading the book, because of how miss represented Biodynamics is in the media or in small articles written online. It is much more about the farmers connection to the land/earth and re-defines the role of humans on this planet...

Much more than a bunch of "spells" and recipes for alternative fertilizers, Biodynamics is an entire paradigm of being.

To the layman, using animal intestines, herbal tinctures and sowing seed with the phases of the moon may seem "crazy" or sound like "stoner science" or "witchcraft".

But for the Human being, rooted in history, working the Earth, this is life.

I'll put chamomile in my soil, but not stuffed in a sausage, I don't care what anyone says - and I sure as hell am not using slaughterhouse floor blood n bone.

If I were told I had to farm either BD or synthetic chem fertilizers, I sure as hell would choose BD.

With that said, this thread is about soil building through generally provable scientific methods and solid soil/organic agricultural practices -simple as that - Biodynamic's is pretty cool, and they do make some awesome compost to boot!

Agree....I wouldn't say witchcraft as much as it's probably more personally 'thinking' something which is manifested in the mind due to the idea being presented by someone else....like ROLS....only ROLS is more an awakening or awareness for moving into the next phase which is No-Till.......a simple natural and timeless evolutionary biological process being somewhat manipulated by human beings to cultivate crops.
...it'd be freeking cool if such things really were all zany and had actual relevance....but the cosmic beamings of chicken farts on a planetary alignment eye-roll double flip before taking cuttings is a bit much for the reality we currently occupy eh....

I personally read everything I can find by Hugh Lovell...granted he may not be mainstream biodynamics, but I find his stuff amazing. Still...no horn anything for me just yet.

But I do get the feeling he has a deeper understanding than I ever will.

The only reason I brought up Biodynamics is because I recently re-read some Steiner, and its fresh on my mind...

I also now cant help but link the 'living' in ROLS, with the BD preps, and what they stand for. Everything about BD is grounded in the Living and Etheric.
