Nice to hear from u Mistress. Yes out the bottom that's ok with me as long as they don't block up the smart-valve but i wont let that happen.
once the roots get thru the material, they form fish-bones & grown much like a dwc root...
providing a large basin, trough or shallow pond for the roots, once they push thru the material, & as little obstruction as possible, =... so, maybe maintain 1.25-2.5cm of water/solution in the trays encourages root growth outside of the container.

Craven_au,
hey man, looking good! those are some nice lookin' buds you got there. in autopotkings thread a while back you mentioned that 100% perlite worked well too with the autopot setup. looks like 100% perlite it's comparable to to 100% coco?

also, do you notice any pythium or funky smell coming from the bags as the end nears? In my last couple grows i started to smell something weird from the coco and didn't know if it had to do with some standing water under the pots. i even put about an inch or hydroton at the bottom of the pots to keep the plants from sitting in water, but still smelled funny in one of the plants.

thanks. take it slow,

Gday mate good to hear from you its good to be back :)

No smell but will keep an eye/nose on it.:)

The smell could be root rot or the coco is braking down because it's sitting in solution witch is not a problem for perlite won't brake down. try a air stone under the pot may help.

Coco holds to much water even when Hydroton is added to the bottom of the bag or pot that is why i made up the wick witch is workings nicely. Easy to make a must when using coco in the autopots

I'm a little disappointed with the perlite and the 60/40 perlite vermiculite test maybe my plants just don't like perlite witch i find interest but make since to me maybe the media has a bigger roll than we know, plants do come from all around the world and have evolved in different soil types so MAYBE people need to mach there Strain/Phenotype with there media.

Spot on man i found that the ice princess needs to be dry IE the wicks/foamy things and or air stone added (i use 50/50 per/vem mix) yet the new strain doesnt seem to have any issues sitting in the deep water if you call 25mm deep. So i think you are spot on the strain needs to mach the medium/water requirements.
