Not too much to see in the hockey world cup yet. Yesterday was the 1st set of real games. USA lookin better as the games go along. Canada i havent seen yet, but i have faith they have a good team. They only have hockey and curling so they better.. Ah the Swedes got the easy route again. Damn lucky bastids :smile:
Not feeling our Finnish team this year tho, so i won't go all on ya face wid 'we gonna win this shit' stuff. Prolly da Swedes gonna win with some flunkie goal like they always do

Thus speaks a patriotic Finn. You know, the Swedes are Olympic Champions (2006) and World Cup Champions. You don't win both tournaments because of luck, but because you're the better team.

I think Finland looks really sharp this year and will be surprised if they don't make it to semi-finals.

Some more results before the serious part starts:

Russia - Finland: 5-4

Sweden - Latvia: 8-2

Denmark - Ukraine: 4-3

Switzerland - Italy: 2-1

Czech Rep - Austria: 6-1

USA - White Russia: 5-1

Congrats to Denmark for staying in the A-group. Sweden looks like the superior team on the score sheet, but Latvia was just a munchie. What's positive about the Swedish team is that all eight Swedish goals in the last game were scored by different players, so they've got a wide range of hungry players. The heavy weight game was Russia - Finland though. IMO, this was a rehearsal of the semi-final or perhaps even the final. Russia ran the show in the first two periods, Finland came back into the game towards the end, but Russia was simply too strong.
They've played three almost perfect games so far, and they're my bet for the gold this year. They're playing in Moscow after all.

U never won it. We never won it. I think USSR/CCCP & Canada won most of Canada cups/ (world cups since 1996) and USA took it once.
Closest Sweden (1984) or Finland (2004) ever got was final against Canada, but Can won em both.

And FUck yea i'm still bitter coz of Olympic '06 final :smile:

...and dear Rosy, I think Swedes haven't prove anything yet...their opponents aren't good enough...think about it...sweden is real hockey country...but Latvia, Italy, Switzerland aren't...Those are way too easy games for Sweden and that can hurt them in the long run...

A lot of hurt feelings in Finland after loosing the Olympic Final to Sweden 2006. Moderator, can't we change BadTicket's name to "BadLooser" (woahahahaha!).

Just kidding friend. I meant the World Championships, as I'm sure you understood. Seriously, winning both tournaments on lucky goals just isn't possible. I know Finns hate to loose to Sweden, it's an old rivalry thing, which means that Sweden-Finland is always charged with emotions. The better.

In any case, I've got nothing against Finland's Hockey team. On the contrary, I admire them and wish them luck. I would say that the three best Ice Hockey nations in the world are the Czech Republic, Sweden and Finland (not necessarily in that order).
These are the small hockey nations that always keep world class, and in spite the fact that their number of licenced players and resources are way smaller than in the "big" nations; Canada, USA and Russia (not to mention the size of their championships compared to the NHL), they repeatedly whip their asses.

That is TRUE Ice Hockey culture!

Denmark did well, especially Peter Regin (who plays in the Swedish Championships), and Sweden played like if the game was won from start. Seemed like no one in the Swedish team realized you actually have to do some skating in order to score...

The Finns did the same thing against Switzerland (2-0), they just weren't able to score against the Swiss, until a fortunate powerplay in the last period.

Germany - Czech Republic 2-0! That was a big surprise. Damn, I miss that beautiful Czech team from a few years back.

The two first quarter finals played;

Russia - Czech Rep: 4-0

Sweden - Slovakia: 7-4

Both scores were justified. The Russians once again showed their superiority as a team, I can't see who will stop them from taking the gold.

I think Finland will cream USA tomorrow, and the Swiss can't do much about the Canadians.

Which then means Sweden - Canada and Russia - Finland in the semis.

My guess is; Sweden - Russia in the final, that Russia wins.
