Funny, I run a a Si supplement that also jacks the K a bit, and Im seeing "slight" over fert issues with the extra K, but not to where Im going to change anything, they look great!

Gonna look at a Si supplement that doesnt raise the K... Protekt? I think is an option..

Need calcium clarification

Need calcium clarification

First off I have to say Great thread!!

I have been hand watering my hempy buckets using perlite/vermiculite
For a while with excellent results. Recently I made the switch to coco and want to get off on the right foot.

I use tap water and never worried about cal or mag. I usually experienced deficiencies about 3-4 weeks into flower. I inquired about this to my nutes guy and he said that the plant can only utilize certain cal molecules from tap water (has anyone else heard this??).
Anyway he suggested calmag+ and it seems to work.

The reason I bring this up is because from what I'm understsnding, if I use calmag thru the grow I will end up with cal buildup and lock out mag and k later in flower.

If I use calmag+ up to a couple weeks into flower and then change to epsom salts from then on, should I be alright?

Your thoughts and knowledge is appreciated

Protekt has 3%(K) by volume. Silicic Acid hydrate would be something to look into. But in all reality raising the K concentration with Potassium silicate isn't necessarily a bad thing. Its the base nutrient Part B that should be lower in K.

howdy fellow coco growers. I have a quick question for all you coco experts. This run i decided to give hempy buckets a whirl, watering by hand. About 4 days ago i transplanted my clones from my bubble cloner into my beercan hempy buckets with a perlite res and straight Bcuzz coco filling the remainder. I watered with 1/4 strength nutes until a little came out the res hole...its not 4 days since then and my coco still seems incredibly wet. If i grab a bit and pinch it, i can actually squeeze water out of it. Is this normal for starting off or did i just over saturate the coco medium? The rooted clones are showing no sign of distress, but it just seems super wet for 4 days

thanks in advance

i meant to say beercup hempy buckets to obtain stronger roots then pot up

4 days is indicative of poor drainage. Get a skewer and carefully poke holes into the coco from the top. Poke the drainage holes to make sure they are clear.

Yeah you shouldn't have saturated it first . just enough to feed the roots till they grow long enough to hit the rez . by the time they grow down to hit the rez , there should be enough water to feed the roots & you'll notice the plants growth explode in a days time . thats when you saturate the cup till runoff .
for now just let it dry out a bit .might take a day or 2 more now cuz of the colder weather (if your in an area thats effected by the cold ) but you should be fine . treat it like a soil grow when you first transplant anything into a hempy ... about a week later the roots should be in the rez & then you feed till runoff ... every time . never let the pots completely dry out with coco !!! if it does .... the salts crystilize & cause problems .

as long as your seedling or clone has sufficiant roots , theres no need to start off in a beer cup or small pot first . because then you have to transplant the cup into a larger pot & have to go through this again . just go from your rooted plug to the final hempy bucket .... just feed the roots lightly for a couple days to a week & when the roots hit the rez .... you'll see it the way the plant explodes with growth .

Even Dialahempy himself starts off with just rooted seedling :)

Did you poke holes in the bottom of the cups? I just put my cuttings straight into cups filled with coco and water every 24-48 hours with straight up ph'd water. Whoops.... Just realized Chuck already suggested poking holes in the bottom.

He's starting them in Hempy cups . theres one hole on the side of the cup about an inch up so that theres a rez of perilite & water in the bottom .

yeah WL ... just let them dry out a bit so the roots go looking for water at the bottom of the cup . you'll be fine .but as i said last post .... you can skip the cup step & put them right in the final bucket .

hello y'all.. do they seem like week 2? i dont think so..
i think they look weak and the color its pale green.
also the down right in the white cup is to small and the leaves curved..

i feed them every 2 days, canna rhizotonic, biobizz biogrow, and hesi powerzyme.the doses are about 1.5ml/1l.
for soil i use plagron coco premium.
its my first coco grow and im little confused

They look fine to me.. be very careful jamming nutrients into plants that small.. very low doses at this stage.. I'm not sure what ppm or ec level you're at with these, but they shouldn't be getting much more than 400 to 500 ppm.. let them grow.. then jam the nutes to em..

Re: the Hand Watering coco thread

So I hope its ok for me to come in here a coco newb?

Hope so and ask a few ?

I did RW for a long time throughout my growing career.
Still do for all my cloning. Any way.

Is it safe to say that coco is very similar?

You basicly keep coco wet and you continuously baith the roots with fresh newtz. You dont worry much about over watering but about not over doing it with to high ppms/ec?
Drain to waist with daily waterings eventually a drip system.

I switched from hydro completly to a amended soil that I also feed with tea and flora nova and supplements.

Ive maxed out very close to a gpw.
And Im not complaining.

But as usual I have to always evolve. Want to go for better numbers.

Also want to use it over and over Like I have with my soil.

Anythoughts on my perception of coco would be much appreciated.

Ok.. first of all, I find coco to be totally different than rockwool. I have very little experience with rockwool other than my cloning etc, but once past the 1" cube size, they go right into coco. As far as watering/feeding, I flood my plants daily and obtain a fair amount of runoff. The plants never stand in their runoff. Once a week, I do a flush of each plant with plain water and use twice the volume of water that I usually use when giving them the nutrient solution. As far as ppm etc.. I run about 1000 ppm and everyone seems to be happy and healthy with minimal nutrient burn. Dead and struggling leave are taken off the plants on a regular basis. I run H&G nutrients and believe their Dripclean product is very effective in preventing salt build up in the medium. This is only how I DO IT.. not saying it's the best way, or the 'right' way, it's just the way I do it and it works. I have no idea what my gpw factor. I run a perpetual type grow, so that would be difficult at best to try to determine. Anyway.. I love growing in coco, it gives me full control over nutrient uptake of the plants etc. I hope it works out for you.

Thank you. Now the drip clean how often do you apply?
