The growing large plants, outdoors, thread...

So I made it out to finish up the tying down to the panels, and tried out a new pump/irrigation idea that seems like it's going to fly. Just need to make a sediment filter now so I picked up the parts on the way home.. Anyway, everything is looking fine and I got a few pics.. Since they're tied down it's kind of hard to get a good perspective of them, which I suppose is a good thing since blending in is what we are going for.. The plants were between 3 1/2 and 4' tall when they went in the ground 11 or so days ago.. I imagine they haven't grown much longer because a lot of branches have started growing vertically that would normally be on the bottom of the plant..

One thing that has me concerned is I did notice some stippling on a few plants.. I didn't see any thrips when I inspected a bunch of the leaves though, so I'm a little stumped. I'm going to do a bunch of research online about them to see if I can identify them.

More importantly, can someone recommend the most common way to eliminate them outdoors? I've only had them once in my life indoors and somehow they just went away on their own.. So just knowing what the stippling looks like is about all the experience I have..

Anyway, here's a few shots. Nothing impressive but it should be a good reference for when I get shot in another few weeks..

One last thing, we're going to drop grass seed over the bare spots.. Any recommendations? We're going to broadcast the seed over more than just those areas so it doesnt just look like a bunch of really nice grass in a rectangle matching the hole that was dug..

So... many of my plants have branches that, if trained out, would reach a cage around the outer circumference of my pots. I am wondering whether to start spreading them open now, or whether I should wait for new branches to reach outward before i start training into the 'cages'.

you arent caging right? if you are its better to atleast get the cage in and let them grow into it/train than to wait til theyre too big.

Hey Tom!
You mentioned earlier....
"I recommend a pH meter, an ERGS (energy released per gram of soil) meter, and an Na (sodium) meter at the very least. The other two meters in my arsenal are an ORP (Oxygen reduction potential) meter and a refractometer (reads degrees Brix/%sucrose),"

One thing that I could not find is the book you suggested? the other question I have for you tom is... I am lucky that my plants are loving the soil I purchased by chance... I am curious what levels do you want your soil to be reading throughout veg and then bloom for each of those meters? ERGS? NA? ORP? and the refractometer?

Hi Crossouttheiis,

I believe the book I recommended earlier was "Hemp Diseases and Pests" (Clarke, McPartland, and Watson).

I am not incredibly strict about the readings, I use them to try to make educated decisions mostly. ERGS I like to see around 600-800, but if there was something I knew to be suppressing the reading, say cold temps or lack of Oxygen, then I might wait for it to warm-up some (if warming-up was in the forecast) before taking action etc. The ORP meter is used mostly to adjust foliar feedings, but if I had to flush, or do some heavy feeding right on top of a watering during cooler weather etc, I might adjust Oxygen content via H2o2- that target is about ORP 150. The Na (Sodium meter) I start to get concerned when it reads around 2.3. If it reads lower (more of a problem), I'll take action. The goal is to complex/tie-up this problem element. Do so by kicking-up bio activity - add a catalyst, or any number of "compost starters" in lower quantities. 12 degrees brix is a good reading on the refractometer for cannabis.

I'll catch-up guys, I swear ;) -T

when your applying brixmix are you soaking the plants down or giving them a nice mist?

I soak the plants with the Brix Mix - but make sure plants are well tie-up first or risk breaking branches. I start at the bottom of the stalk, work my way up, then the bottom of the leaves, then the tops of the leaves. I do this in the early-mid morning.

The Calcium 25 I do a light mist, I do this in the late morning.

Do not mix Calcium 25 with Brix Mix or anything else, spray cal25 solo, well separated from other sprays.

I bought Calcium25 for Apples and Trees rather than the Vegetable Calcium25. Did I make the right purchase?

I've always used the vegetable mix, but I wouldn't worry too much. What I would do is contact the company and inquire as to what the differences in the formulations are. You may want to cut back on the recommended dose (or up it for that matter), based on their answer.

Tom i am trying to make cages to support my plants inside 120g and 200g pots..... there abour 3-4ft right now and need to do something quick... i cant find any weld wire..... how tall should i make them... 5ft 6ft 6.5 ft... those are the heights of fencing i found... what do you recommend... do i also need the bamboo stakes.. to hold the cages..

Yeah, you and me both :) I've cut off many broken branches already. My recommendation is to move away from metal cages altogether, and go with Hortonova trellis/netting, I did years ago and never looked back. groworganic.com carries it at a reasonable price. Cages are not very adjustable, and I hate branches slamming on metal in the wind. By using this plastic trellis, you can support plants as needed many times throughout the season as needed, adjust applications according to growth. I support this stuff with bamboo stakes through it, then tape it to the bamboo.

A litle oftopic but I see you visit this topic frequently.

Are you planing on releasing something new soon ((;
Are you working on some strains, I would love to hear some names at least :p
I`m sure you have many more gems.

Hola gOvnaa, I am currently making Deep Chunk x Haze F2, should be ready in less than 8 weeks. This is the seed lot that I would be gladly stranded on a desert isle with. It's R&D stuff, I will hold back what I need then offer remnant seed @ half price ($45 a pack). Then there are several projects that I am getting ready to do this summer in a "spike crop" style, not to begin for a few weeks yet. -T

Sounds like a good one forsure, nice prices also. Bet there's a pheno for all types in that hybrid.

Hey Tom,

How often are you watering the 300's now that the weather has warmed up and stopped raining?

I think I might be watering a bit to frequent, along with it happening to rain after the last 2 waterings. Waited 8 days between the last 2 waterings. Tommorrow will be the 5th day without water.

Was hoping to compare my schedule to yours, or anyone else running the 300's. I know a lot has to do with how large the plants are; just hoping to get some sort of a ballpark figure.

Thanks a ton,
Mr^^

have we yet or are we gonna discuss choppers ?.....for all of us that have to go Gorilla.
they flew on/off for 2weeks last year .. it was nerve racking .... 4 different days I had to run around ripping dogwood branches out of my trees and covering my plants with them ...as i hear the choppers flying nearby
