The growing large plants, outdoors, thread...

I sent a PM to a few growers in this thread about a leading edge agronomist looking to work directly with canna farmers. Talked to him today and found out more details. He's launching a 4 product soil and foliar line. One grower that tested his line had the lab call him and state the sample had the highest levels of THC, CBD and CBN they ever saw. Thought he was going to get some field data to develop a line yet he's already done. I'm guessing there might be some formula tweaks after the in-field data comes back to him.

Guess I need to talk to Skip about advertising lol.

No way, it's simply too expensive to produce.

i keep hearing this, but is it really true? how far off am I? Obviously nobody really knows but in the past year i've seen a constant drop in wholesale pound prices. It is happening despite what people on here think. I just met an arab in L.A. who is moving tons of decent outdoors for $1K/pound.

Some people seem to think their outdoors will go for $2000 forever. i'm telling you the days of triple-digit tickets are coming. My plan for 2014 is to grow enough high-quality cannabis that i can afford to compete in this changing market instead of sitting on product for months or years waiting for better prices. Probably will aim for 3 or 4 light dep / outdoor harvests between June and November

1000 a lb is where it is going to bottom out at. There simply is no profit in producing it below those prices, and that's about 50 dollars an oz or 2 dollars a gram...

At the current prices for outs we don't even bother paying trimmers , as it doesn't hit the FLOWER market, so in the Trim Pal and then buds in a mixer to be chopped for proper extraction, and if done properly and with only quality we do better than the flower market. With 10-15% sugar trim returns, and 20% straight bud return, and the whole extract scene booming, you do the math! Exotics and top quality indoor wil be the only flowers getting decent rates coming in this exciting shift in climate, and properly extracted and tested forms of extracts will reign as supreme, as this shift is already present. This is a business and no more than ever is it time to adapt and thrive or sit to side and die
And man I can't wait till those that can't hand move on so we can have prime land to live on is back, and not being bought up and fucked up by out of staters, not living and contributing to the community.

That's what I've been telling peeps for a few years. I don't see how many would stay involved below that level.

Growers who have their property and equipment paid off, are optimizing production and quality, incorporate modern agriculture practices of testing and crop monitoring and who also manage their operations efficiently will do OK in the long run.

I generally agree except that light dep herb is superior to indoor if done right. At least IMO. I'm all for the exotics and think as consumers become more educated and experienced at least a portion will want something different on a regular basis. For sure some niches will open up as the market expands. It's hard to find a good sativa!

Now take it to Kansas,2000 ac farm, fem seed, planted and harvested w/o touching human hands, then into the hopper to be extracted by the local co-op...just like every other crop ...seeds,hermi's,males,mold...doesn't matter...into the hopper

I guess all itll take is for one Sam Walton to show up to the cannabis industry and its wrecked. Then all the herb will be grown across borders by children and slave labor?

What does it cost on average for you to produce 1 lb? 2-300$ maybe? Looking at the agricultural industry as a whole, Id say that those margins would make most farmers click heels and sing a tune.

Unless the states or governing bodies put lots of restrictions on production, like alcohol and Tobacco, prices will spiral down to far lower than 1k a unit. They have to balance their clamps just right or risk keeping the black market a thriving outlet. They want to legalize for control of $$ which equals control of the peoples ability to thrive in a rigged rat race. Lots of good ppl made it out of the struggle with growing cannabis. Old, long money buried in them hills. Gives people a way out, they are aiming to stop that asap.

There is lots of money in consulting, just selling information ;) Cannagronomist , FTW..

No way, it's simply too expensive to produce. Prices will increase when legalization happens because quality supply won't meet demand

Dead fucking on. CO legal prices right now are 60+ per 1/8 and black market prices are following. There is more demand than anyone ever guessed. The legal places will be totally out of weed by the end of this month, no way they can meet demand even at those prices. Who the fuck knew people were not smoking only because of a stupid law???

That is my thinking. You can paint whatever hypothetical situation you wish, but the bottom line is, there is more demand than supply... I would rather provide Johnny Q Public with their meds, than allow the Mexican Mafia to do so.
CO is a small state population wise, imagine the closet smokers, and smokers yet to even enter the closet...
Walmart may come in, but to grow top shelf requires more time and passion than they are willing to commit.
The only fear I have is massive grow ops for the sole purpose of extraction. That is where the market is heading, and I am invested in the tincture market. Most of what is on the market is complete shit. Untested, partially decarboxylated tinctures, which are nothing more than modern day "snake oil". Filter the lab results at SC Labs for tinctures and you will see 3-5 mg/ml being sold for ridiculous prices. My tincture is tested before it's bottled, and my standard 1 oz bottle has 400 mg, versus 200 mg untested. The price per mg available for properly processed cannabis is 3-5 times that of flowers, even at 4k a pack...

Its so funny that people seem to think that legalization will not bring a huge drop in prices. if/when the market stabilizes then weed will be much cheaper than it is currently. Growers who cant afford to sell their best flowers for less than 1000 will be forced to make it all into extracts, which will also be worth shit once legalized mass production begins

Using colorado's current situation as an example of why prices will stay high is foolish IMO. They simply were the first to legalize for recreational consumption . As other states and countries follow suit, and more major players get into the weed game, we may see cannabis as cheap as the most widely smoked herb, tobacco.

Alot of it comes down to permits and local laws. Yeah weed is legal in CO, but tell that to the folks in colorado springs and other towns that banned it. Its pretty much centered in Denver. People arent growing herb in the CO mountains and taking it down to denver to walk into shops like we do in CA...totally different structure of seed to sale for those in denver.

Colorado Springs banned recreational not medical from what I understand. Yeah the scene in CO is very different than Cali in how it's structured. I have 3 friends permitted to grow and 2 of them will push their numbers to 99 this year while the other is sticking at 50. I'll be helping them out this year and apply what I've learned in Cali. They're a bit behind with some things.

even corn flakes can have a % made up of bug parts perfectly legal
I'm not sure commerical farmers will give a shit...into the bho hopper. hope you're right
Yes it's called light filth and have used labs to test for it in the past. This includes things like insect fragments, feather barbules, rodent hairs, etc. The acceptable level in food products is actually pretty high. Heavy filth would be things like dirt, sand, etc. You gotta love they allow 'filth' in food lol.

@Yes4Prop215 California is already setting its model up with various counties enacting outdoor growing zoning ordinances, these will just be the springboard for permits etc.,

My county is still sorting out the new ordinances concerning larger grows. Depending on parcel size, you may have to have a certain setback, and fencing. And the City of Capitola, who are on the record as being pro-MMJ, just denied an application for a commercial grow.
I would say it is safe to say, that it will be an interesting next couple of years. The most important approach in my opinion, is to diversify, and be on the cutting edge. Those that don't will be left behind.
Anticipating one thing or another based on CO, is not applicable to Cali literally, but the changes in the market are worth noting. I believe a couple of credit card companies are trying, or have achieved permission, to allow transactions without Federal prosecution.

I recently read regarding Colorado transactions that it was Visa that was OK and Mastercard not, or the other way around. I also recently read that the Feds were looking at easing restrictions for banks to process transactions. It'll all get figured out as there's too much money at stake here. Get on your game and prosper...sounds like Spock...Live Long and Prosper. I just spent time in CO and more dialed in than CA regarding some things.

My main vendor in SF has been using a Square I think. It's one of those card readers you plug into your smartphone to take CCs. He is having some issues, and is very wired into the latest developments. If this is a war, which in many ways it is, then concessions by the enemy, in any way, is a success.
