Hey brother looks like a nice project u got going. I love the old sativas, and I'm ding my part to do preservation work on a few varieties. A friend of mine, I believe, will soon be releasing a 79 highland oaxacan gold. What he has is the real deal, grown and preserved by himself since 80s. He was kind enough to pass the seeds and give me the opportunity to grow it out myself so hopefully soon I will have some pics of these beauties to contribute to the forum. I have some vegging up indoor that I'll soon b moving outdoors to finish this fall.

revolution: go man go! thank you for the compliments too! i've been carefully arranging and assembling everything since Xmas, before which i was just kind doing my time learning the basics.

as far as the HOG coming out, i can't wait! i think you're talking about the guys at Ace/CBG, but if it's someone else, even better! more Oax genetics to play with. but yeah, please feel free so share pics here! i am an info junkie, and HOG is on my list!

i really think there's a sizable, niche market of the stuff we are all working with. i'm personally done with the new stuff, i.e. blue dream, train wreck, green goddess, green crack, all of that. i don't have any problem with the strains, they just don't interest me any more. 8 years buying from the clubs here, that's what you get.

i assume pro growers are their suppliers, and they are smart to stick to hybridized, reliable, consistent strains. but the strains i see on LA club menus are BORING! some of us just want something with more character, and a wilder high. i haven't had anything trippy in years.

i did find specifically Thai Stick weed though. as in, sold to me, from a club, on a stick, probably coated in hash. i was told the guy learned in thailand, he's the real deal, etc. as with any other club strain (or seeds we order online, to an extent), you're trusting the supplier to tell the truth. or, for us, trust our growing experience and empirical data. than again, that's like watching a movie if you're a director; you see the nuts and bolts.

god dammit, that weedmexico.com site sells seeds 30 for $10. sucked into some bullshit. they also sell "synthetic white caffeine powder." i shudder to think what that might be.

This line is seperate from cannabiogen. I have nothing but the utmost respect for cannabiogen and the crew at ace, but from what Ive read they only had two plants to work with when preserving their Hightland Oaxacan Gold line. That's not the best way to go about preservation work, but we work with what we have. This line was given to me by another member, whos been growing and preserving this variety since 1979. Maybe he'll find the post and chime in. Ive given my word not to share the seeds with other members or seed co, until he's had the opportunity to release the line under his own moniker. I really hope he does so soon, as this is a very special variety, and rare aswell. Not many ppl are still holding these seeds.
Id hate to see another line go onto the market misrepresenting, or impartial to the original.
IF you dig enough around icm you will find this grower and there's a lot of pics of his HOG line.

revolution, i think i know to whom you refer; but his name and seed brand name can be revealed when it's right. but does his name rhyme with "bratva?" arrow reference ftw!

well, i always have eyes bigger than my stomach when it comes to growing. if i got a pack of ANYONE'S legit Highland Oaxaca right now, i would just grow them, attempting to fit even more babies in my never-enough tents.

with both Eskobar's Oaxacan and the El Dorado, the buds are surprisingly dense, and the leaves are a bit wider. is this a normal trait in Highland varieties? i don't expect every latin american or any other landrace sativa to just have one set of characteristics. it's not all jungle down there, i guess. the El D is likely due to a bit of dutch hybridization, but people here i trust say it's legit. i guess i feel like a heel for using nirvana. but, as i said, if the smoke is right, fuck it.

everything's humming along, the panama is tempting me especially, she's extra frosty. i think it's the green pheno, anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

now, i'm not at all in a rush with these, but i just want to know when to mark the flower start date (a lesson i of course made myself learn the hard way). do these count as pre flowers on my Thai Stick plants?

side question: does anyone know of a decent simple photo editing app for mac or iPad? i'm not talking photoshop, but something easy to circle buds and write text for picture clarity. thank you!

The panama is looking real good Shake. I bet she'll be a joy to smoke. Keep pics of her coming.

Those Thai aren't pre-flowering yet. Dont expect any sign of flowers for at least 40+ Days if this is your first time flowering them out. They will veg, veg, and continue to veg for at least a month after the flip. 11/13 works well for my Gypsy Thais.

Im concerned with the color and look of the new growth though. They appear chlorotic compared to the older growth. Possible Iron, or Sulfur Def. If you've not watched the videos in my signature yet, you need to.

Keep the updates coming. Im subscribed and looking forward to seeing how these ladies turn out.

Dave, THANK YOU! i get so spun out flitting from one diagnostic to the next, i admit i get frustrated. having watched those videos (thank you again) it does sound like iron, and possibly calcium deficiency.

but this was kinda what i was talking about with the thais being more high maintenance. or maybe "differently abled" as most of the other stuff i've grown has been run of the mill as far as problems. in other words, the thais were grown (by a rookie) with the same controls as my other plants (water, ph, light, medium, etc.), but unique problems arise.

i am, by no means, a very experienced grower. i have 5-6 harvests under my belt, two of them intentional duds used to learn the ins and outs. anyway, i'm nowhere your level of proficiency, Dave, so anything other than "easy for chuckleheads to grow" provides challenges for me. which is cool, as i get to learn new stuff first hand, and become a better grower. and hopefully (with some help) get exceptional weed to show off!

also, i kinda figured the new growth was faking me out. i'm in no rush, just trying not to screw up my flower period timeframe.

calyxes4life, thank you for checking out my grow. hopefully i can help.

Im glad to be of help Shakesignal. It can be frustrating to try and diagnose a problem with our ladies when its the first time experiencing it. Maybe we'll be able to figure it out together.

If we decide to go with Fe deficiency, I would look into getting some Fe Sequestrene 138 to treat it. Its the best option for Iron Chelates, and the fastest to show results, but it may conflict with your organic grow...

I believe Cal/Mag supplements usually have Fe added too, so maybe you could try that out as well.

These Thai are only more high maintenance in how much feed they need. You can't feed them once a week and expect fast vigorous growth, IME. Whenever Ive experienced nutrient deficiencies in my garden, most of the time its because Im under-feeding. Try an increased feed perhaps?

You'll have your hands full with your Thai, but if you're only flowering one it wont be so bad. It is a challenge, but it will only serve to make you a better grower in the end. Expect some mistakes, but I just view mistakes as opportunities to learn something. Im sure by you're third run, she'll be purring rightly.

Best of luck with her.

Bluh the Thai Stick babies are still growing out goofy, now the only un-topped one is joining in. I treated two of them a few days ago with a mix of Earth Juice OilyCann for CalMag, EJ Microblast (hoping a few shots will deal with the iron and sulfur deficiency), and EJ Catalyst to give the soil microbes a little goose. If that doesn't pay off I will move on to other measures. Fe Sequestrene would probably work, but it fits less with my budget right now. LA has some decent garden centers, I think a few of them stock iron supplements.

Approaching harvest time for most of Tent 2, that's gonna be a doozy, chopping 7 plants within a week or two.

I talked with Joseph R Pietri at a show a couple weeks ago and he had seeds for all these and more of the old classics that were from the 70's and before that he collected. Didn't have the extra money to get any, really brought back memories talking about them.
