The Canna Embassy organic homegrowers thread

Hello world,

The weather changes all the time, rain, sun and wind.
Yesterday I went to the beach for the first time this year.
It was stormy and wild weather.
The beach almost untouched.

Yesterday the little plants stayed indoor, because the weather was too bad.
I just put them outside.
The sun started to shine.
Still very windy....

Last week I added the Legalize clip 2004 on YouTube.
The total 11 minutes version is now online at the Canna Embassy site:

Great day at the beach, the year is starting to look up is it? not before some more bad weather though. There's a hurricane heading for Netherlands which swept over England. hope your little plants will survive the whole thing.
Nice pictures D.

Viagra gives plants a lift

Nitric oxide, the chemical at the heart of the drug's success, could work wonders on the food and flower industries, writes Paul Simons

Thursday September 12, 2002
The Guardian

Viagra, the popular drug that helps give men erections, could save plants from even more serious cases of droop. The most startling proof of Viagra's power over plants came from an Israeli scientist, Ya'acov Leshem, at Bar-Ilan University, who was looking at how flowers wither.

He had a hunch that Viagra might work the same magic on plants so he put some into a vase of cut flowers and found they stayed fresh and perky for up to a week longer than usual. Just 2% of the dose needed to treat a bout of male impotence brought a new lease of life to roses, carnations and African daisies.

"The flowers looked much fresher, their colour remained longer, and they were also much more turgid," reported Leshem. No one is suggesting spraying Viagra over plants to stave off wilt: there could be embarrassing side-effects and the cost would be prohibitive, but there might be cheaper and safer alternatives.

When you delve into how Viagra works, you find a remarkably similar chemical story in plants and people. "Plants share the same common denominator as humans - nitric oxide," explains Leshem. This simple, colourless gas has long had a bad reputation for causing traffic pollution, but nitric oxide is now recognised as a powerful hormone in humans. When released from nerve endings, it tells blood vessels to relax and widen to increase blood flow - which is how it gets a phallus erect.

Mad Sci, how was your experience with the Sat's outdoors at these latitudes? I remember you where growing something last year?
Hi Browser, my apologies for the late reply. In fact the grow didn't go too smooth. The small pots were giving the plants a really tough time and we had an awful summer. I recapitulated all the negative factors elsewhere in this thread, but apart from those I think that under ideal circumstances the plants would have done not too bad actually. Maybe the bad weather caused them to finish a little sooner than they would have normally done, but still I think finishing certain sativas outdoors in my climate should be possible. The next time I'm planting sativas outside I will certainly 'blind' them to make them flower earlier in the season. There's no need for pre-growing them indoors as they will continue to grow during flowering of course, so blinding would be more or less the only thing they missed last summer. Another option may be a greenhouse, or even a combination of blinding and growing them inside a greenhouse, preferably heated during autumn.

So in short I'd say growing sativas outdoors in Northern Europe is possible, though not ideal. Some adaptations would greatly improve their chances of survival. Heated soil (cables), blinding, or even a greenhouse will be my next tricks. And put the plants in a well lighted spot! From my experience sativas really need direct sunlight to develop themselves into the kind of plants we praise them for. But of course this rule of thumb applies to all cannabis species I suppose... It just seems to make a greater difference with sativas IMO. :bandit:

Hello world,

Hanfi and when the plants are stressed I'll give them valium.... just kidding.
Overhere as less as possible "manipulation" and no chemicals.
This is the only pill I'll take when I am realy stressed out... lol

Fukitol.jpg

Just organic soil and fertilizer and good conditions.

Talking about good conditions.

The 2 little GAP plants that I'll bring in overnight and give some extra (tube) light at night are doïng fine. One stays a little behind in growth, but is ok.
The one that lost a leaf is producing a new set of leaves where the leaf was eaten off.
Strong little plant... I'll think it's a male and the little one female, but we'll see...

The third one the "Purpurea Princess" that I leave outside at the terrace 24/7 didn't grew that much.
The roots don't get enough warmth yet to develop nice roots.
Roots love moisty warm soil...
The first picture of the little Purpurea Princess sprout was taken today..
The last one 8 days ago, almost no difference...

Folks, a little more patience, spring is on it's way!!
The fifth of april is new moon and Canna Embassy national seed day...
Just a little more patience folks, it's on it's way!!....

MS, thanks for sharing.

Let the sun shine.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhNrqc6yvTU

Thanks GA!The street in front of your house really changed since I visited you!

@Verger:As i smoked my first herb in 1998 or something around that time it has allways been an idea in my head, but it never actually got strong enough to realize it.
But now i got seeds from GA and I get more and more information about how hard I have to grow by my own...Sad things are done to this wonderfull plants in our days...
So thank you for your offer,I hope with your help I can get a good start with this "hobby".

Oh,and sorry if my english isn't allways correct,I'm german (but nevertheless I think I speak english quite good)

Your English is fine. I haven't gotten my seeds yet from GA. There is still time. The weather is not up to the task of rasing anything purple :)

I think you should also download a copy of the Overgrow FAQ. Valuable info's in there.
If you want to know some old but basic insights, I recommend Frank & Rosenthal's book 'Marijuana Growers Guide'.
It is sort of the Grow Bible. Since it has been written knowledge has increased. Yet still, it is a good book to understand the plants we love.

Last night "The Hague Johnny" was at the national tv.
The first thing he did was lightening a joint.
He shared the joint with "Miss Tokkie".
She was realy impressed and said to the host:
"I got medical Marijuana from my doctor".

Hanna Tokkie, the new ambassador for cannabis legalisation!

I think I prefer you though G.A.! She not really 'representative', nor is Johnny. They are nice characters of course with their anti-social behaviour, but speaking in marketing terms this would not be my preferred kind of 'branding' for the average cannabis user. :bashhead:

Your little princesses are looking very healthy already. Great to see some outdoor plants this early in the season. Best of luck and I'm very curious on how they'll develop. Keep up the good work! :bandit:

Hi MS,

To me there is no "avarage" Cannabis user.
I know Johny for years now and at least he is honest in claiming his "freedom" and he is taking care of his friends and loved ones around him and it's true, he does it his way and we ours..
I don't like judging people and put them in squares, like: Black, white, a-social, gay, or whatever.
That's all superficial stuff, I thought we passed that...
Let's go "beyond" that...., the mistery, the unknown...

The media makes them to an image, use them political and they are the ones that are creating the "average images"....

I live at the centre of The Hague over 30 years now and met the junkies in the street, till the (former) Prime Ministers.
Junkie and Prime Minister are just superficial labels.
To me they are at the first place humans...
And good and bad can't live without each other, like cops and robbers.
They can't live with and without each other.
I can get more philosophical, but this thread is not the place for that.
Maybe a thread "Cannabis and Philosophie"? lol.

I understand your "avarage" thinking MS, but that's not where I am coming from...

Every person to me is unique...., good, or bad, any person can change any moment...

Respect is the keyword...

Sorry G.A., I didn't mean to offend anyone or put them in squares. I like to surround myself with people from all layers of society as well and I'm not the kind of person who easily judges others just by their appearance. You may think I'm an average thinker judging from those three sentences I wrote down, but trust me, I'm not. I wrote those down from another point of view, far from my own, but unfortunately very much present amongst the rest of the population.

I do think however that a great deal of the population in our country does label others fairly easy, without knowing them in person. For this reason I'm always a little agitated to see only the 'freaks' (from a non cannabis users point of view, not my own!) get their share of media attention which obviously does not contribute to the public image of cannabis users in general. Why is it that we only get to see very specific individuals on tv, provocating with their cannabis use? How come Prime Minister Balkenende is never asked to hear about the true characteristics of cannabis and have a smoke, surrounded by other highly-regarded people while being filmed for tv? No, it's always stereotypes you see to confirm all existing biases about cannabis users.

I met "The Hague Johnny" on your beach party and I even shared one of those huge joints with him. (and almost killed Kov by passing him the filter tip) I have nothing against him in person, but I'm a little tired of seeing only the people who find themselves a little outside of accepted society on tv, because I'm very aware of the fact that there's a lot of white collars and other socially accepted cannabis users around who you hear nothing about. Cannabis is not only for the lower classes of society, and these kind of tv shows don't seem to do much good for the acceptance of cannabis in general. Not because I myself am so narrow-sighted, but because there's a lot of people who are.

Don't take it personal, try to see the bigger picture and stay objective. We know the average cannabis user does not exist, but unfortunately that is not the common perception. As a cannabis ambassador you must have met your share of biased people. Do you think seeing the Tokkie family smoking a joint on national television will make them adapt their opinion on cannabis?

Again my apologies for not making myself clear earlier. I was trying to place myself in the position of an unsuspecting television watcher and imagine how I would interpret the image of yet another example of a cannabis user being made public. Ah well, it's a complicated issue. You say you're aware of the fact that the media makes these people to an image, so giving attention to the media only confirms the existing biases even more in my opinion. I'm not saying 'no' to people like Hanna Tokkie or Johnny, I'm saying 'no' to the media that broadcast these people on national television. You and I may be able to pinch through the lies easily, but a great part of the country is not. Bear that in mind.

Much respect... :bandit:

Hi MS,

Thanks for sharing and your friendship MS..

Sun is shining again today and it's around 10 degrees.
Still windy.
In the morning the little plants are still warm inside in front of the window.
In the afternoon I will bring them at the terrace to get some direct sunlight and wind.
I noticed also when I germinate a seed indoor and let the little plant grows in front of the window without direct sunlight, you can't put it into direct full sunlight outdoors. They will burn.
They need to adjust to the sunlight. I did it by giving them first 10 minutes of direct sunlight, next day 15 minutes, next day 20 minutes and at last 30 minutes.
After a week I left the little plant outdoor totaly and the plant didn't burn anymore.
The little plants that popped up spontaneously at the terrace this year are used to the direct sunlight from the beginning.

To germinate the seeds I always use a peat pot with soil.
One seed in each pot.
I add a little (couple of drops) Bio Flower to make the soil slightly sauer.
The moment of "sexing" is the moment of germination.
Females like warm (23 degrees) and slightly sauer soil.

All germinated Canna Embassy strains came out female last season.
The only males I had was an Afghan/SnowWhite and a Purpurea Erdber.
The last one I used to pollinate 4 different female strains.

So the peat pot and seeds are waiting for new moon, the fifth of april...
The peat pot is very nice, because you don't need to re-pot the little plant, because the roots grow through the peal...
When the plant has 3 pairs of leaves you can put them in a size pot that's suitable for your little balcony, or garden.
The best condition for the plant is full soil.
The amount of sunlight is also very important.
They need at least 5 hours of direct sunlight a day.
You can grow a plant with less sunlight, but the buds stay very small that way.

Patience, trust and care are the keywords to me of growing your own herb.

Have a great weekend folks... celebration time John... lol

Peace, G.A.

G.A.: Damm right you are, thanks ;) Oh,and I think I quite know how to handle this flood of information about the cultivation of cannabis.I'll just have to pick...
There are sooo many ways to improve the growing of the plant (Even if you just look at those who are natural) that I think there is no way to "use" them all at once.Year after year,I'll pick one or two ways how to improve my plants growing .Was that you who said "Growing cannabis is a process and you grow with the process"? lol

Verger:Thanks :) I've red some things about Overgrow on this Forum yet,but what is/was it actually?

Have a good weekend all,and I hope you have as much fun and smoke in the next two weeks as I will!
Waiting for spring in a cold germany,

Hi John, Hi Hanfi,

John it's cold as well overhere, around 10 degrees and the forecast tells that the weather is getting colder after the weekend, at night near zero...

Overgrow was one of the biggest (Canadian) Cannabis sites ever.
The Canna Embassy thread started out there 6 years ago and 3 years ago Overgrow stopped.

Source: High Times.

On Jan. 31, overgrow.com, the Web’s most popular cannabis-based Web site, disappeared. As what was first thought to be a one-day scheduled maintenance interruption stretched into days, speculation began to spread like spider mites through the online marijuana community. Started as Weedbase in 1999 by a coalition of international activists with cyber nicknames like OT1, Angrydyke, NL420 and Foolgirl, this computer-based cannabis cabal was joined by master coder Shabang sometime around 2000. Later, controlling interests were sold to an anonymous seed seller known only as “RC,” who maintained the site up until its sudden disappearance.

By the time of its demise, Overgrow had grown to more than 100,000 members. In fact, the cost of operating such a high-traffic Web site caused some to suggest that its disappearance was due to the incredible financial burden of hosting Overgrow, rather than any legal reasons. But as RC’s other sites, including Eurohemp, Cannabisworld and Heaven’s Stairway Seed Company, followed Overgrow into the Web abyss, rumors of arrests and seizures quickly took precedence. As a result, an untold number of growers and breeders who frequented the site decided to pull up their roots and close shop.

At a time of unparalleled political and legal pot persecution, Overgrow was the meeting place of an outlawed society, bringing the wisdom of expert growers to novices, and the politics of cannabis activists to recreational users, all in an online world of information and photo galleries that helped in turn to fertilize the roots of the growing cannabis community that fed it. One of the more popular features on Overgrow was the Strain Guide, which traced the genetic history of hybrids such as Northern Lights x Jack Herer or Shishkaberry back through the different strains from which they’d been bred. The Overgrow photo gallery was an unmatched resource for pictures of both cannabis flowers and the state-of-the-art commercial and personal growrooms that sprouted them. Threads like “Wanna Ask the Old Farts” brought together wet-behind-the-ears novices and master growers who had perfected their techniques after years of guerrilla gardening. And for those who took the time to look, the all-encompassing FAQ answered almost every basic question likely to face both fresh and experienced growers, a valuable resource that has been particularly missed by the community. Overgrow also proved an ideal forum for cannabis-seed sellers eager to advertise their wares to the growing public, a gray-market force that generated much of the income that Overgrow required to stay financially self-sufficient as it expanded.

Considering the number of people who had traded information as well as sent in pictures of their gardens and harvests, it’s not surprising that the sudden disappearance of such a huge resource sent shockwaves throughout the global cannabis community. As the days turned into weeks with no official word as to what happened, that anxiety understandably increased.

ICmag became a kind of asylum place for many Overgrowers.
A lot of friends at this thread started out on OG and I love good vibes...

Hanfi, thanks for the invitation....

Keep on growing, take care and stay safe folks, wherever you are...

Peace, G.A.

"(...) For the coffeeshops, small homegrowers uptill 5 plants and drug users nothing will change (at this moment). We can still carry uptill 5 grams for own use." -
can be better, can be much much worse...

"When I was 15 I thought Cannabis would be legal in 5 years...
35 years later I am still thinking that.... lol..."
I'm 19 yo and curious if cannabis will be legal in 50 years in my country, thats inconclusive, president is a stupid spud, government means room of cheaters or corporation chiefs, one and the same.

"In july the coffeeshops need to be smoke (read tobacco) free...
So now the vaporizers are getting more used in some shops." -
I know Darpan you prefer roll it with Drum tobacco, everybody should have law to private choice the best way of smoking MJ, but mayhap thats good idea to put vaporizer to every coffee in every places... ;-)

Hi Gelowas,

Good to see you.

Today I kept the 2 little GAP plants under the light indoor, because today is cold, dark, rainy and windy...
That's why the little Purpurea Princess that's outdoors all the time doesn't grow that well.
Waiting for spring to come...

Hi Hy,

Good to see you..., time doesn't matter, space does... lol
Just was thinking about you the other day...
I hope all is goïng well at the other side of ocean..

Since 2 days there is some sun at the terrace again, so I moved the 2 little Green Ambassador X Purpurea Erdber (GAP) to the terrace.
The other little Purpurea Princess (PurPri) is 24/7 outdoors most of the time under a glass pot, specialy at night, because it's still very cold, 7 degrees by day and the forecast for the night 3 degrees. Yesterday there was still even hail...
That's why the PurPri that stays outdoor 24/7 doesn't have warmth enough yet to develope it's roots, but it's still surviving.

Longing for spring....
