I don't have ur electrical answers. but I will share a couple thoughts on those heat mats. use a thermostat to control it if possible. even with one, I had a hard time dialing mine in n never use it anymore. But I had greater success with it when I put a couple pieces of wood or something to space it a half inch off the clone trays, so it wouldn't overheat the clones n wilt n kill them. If ur rooms already hitting 80f, then u don't need one. Don't sweat about wasting money on another thing ur gonna set in the corner n never use again, like that big jim cloner. Ive got more shit that I don't use anymore, than im currently using.

Ive got prob 3 different clone tubs with 8 different manifold changes. those had the neoprene collars. then I built a couple to hold net cups, with hydroton so I could just root n throw in my hydro set ups. those just used a air pump n bubblers. Ive got a nice heat mat controlled by a thermostat, sitting in the cupboard collecting dust. I can throw a clone in a root riot plug, n check the moisture level every day. then leave it alone. takes a minute or 2 a day. clones get roots in 7 to 10 days. I do use a root gel or powder, all the same shit pretty much, just has a bit of rooting hormone to help.

Its all about keeping them lightly moist while not over wet, n humid enough to to dry the top foliage before a root gets started to help with water uptake. actually ur environment is humid enough u might not even need a dome. if they wilt slightly without one, just use a dome n vent it to where they are happiest. another trick when humidity is low, is to spray the dome lid to add humidity rather that misting the clones. I never mist them.

@Mirac.... Im actually gathering quite a bit of crap I dont really need.... fuck Im not adding a thermostat to that aswell...

Fuck this cloner is doing my head in... thing wont stop fucking leaking.... small clones are shithouse too.... like ten days in this thing and not even nubs.... wtf

Id have to order plugs or what not from the mother city... I see they have method sevens now too... keen to grip those....

Rained real nice last night... 65mm.... its reading 86%RH in my flat right now... and its winter.

I think u could root cuts in the air with that rh. Seriously that high of a rh is where u see root nubs forming in open air above the grow medium. lol

U can work on dialing in rooting in cups of coir. Ive tried it half ass a couple of times n failed. maybe kept em too wet, idk.. I cant help u there, but theres a lot of people that do. retro might do it that way.

Hey Smelly! You aero cloner sure looks great, but I have never had better success than with Rockwool. A layer or perlite helps maintain humidity and a plastic box is all I use. I have also used bubblers with great succes, the key being a lot of air. Aero has only shown me problems and problems. Esp here where not all these parts are easy to find. I recon simplicity is better than speed. Imo a simpler but more stable method is more effective at producing consistent clones.

@Mirac... yeah, today was mid 80's whole day, 80% as of now... mate told me how to wire that mat... real simple... its just pretty nippy this time of year, so I think Im gonna have to work out how to use it to my advantage... also maybe with starting seedlings...?

@Zap... Id have to order the rockwool... the only problem Iv had with this thing is the leaks from the seem. Issues Iv had have been the water been a bit cold, but only this time of year... Also its a bit big for my needs... but hey its a starting point... Im starting to realise a dome/no dome and some form of plugs/medium will be a bit better in many departments...

What about these new 3D printers they make.... could one design a perfect tub for an aero cloner...??? one with a deeeeeeep lid so the seems sit real high up and the pucks like 3-4 inches below...???? And its not too deep that the manifold unlevels itself and shit... or the manifold is built in but can be removed for cleaning.... one small enough for say ten cuts...?? Like the size of a tackle box for bass fishing....????

Wtf else could those printers be used for grow related...?

PS: aero cloner with 85%RH outside..... how the fuck can you go wong??

with that heat mat, stick a thermometer in the bottom of the tray. its important that its on the bottom so to get the actual temp of the bottom of the clones in the plugs. u don't want to hot or it will kill em quick. Id definitely suggest a spacer between the mat n tray. at least till u dial in ur temps with it.

are u gonna try n use the heat mat for heating the water in the aero cloner? Idk about that? they do make aquarium heaters, u could buy a small cheap one for that aero cloner for prob 10 or 20 bucks.

Anyone got any tips on how to rinse the salt outta coco bricks..? I dont have a bath tub.... could I do it in tote's? Hard to call it a rinse then, more of a soak... but I do understand the principles of it... picking clumps up and squeezing the excess water out, placing it in t dry tote...

Pillow case.

Put hte coco in a pillow case and hold it up while you rinse it, not easy.

If you have a wooden trellis or metal screen you can put that down on top of 2 things to suspend the coco in the pillow case so that when you water you don't have to hold it and it drains.

oh and the soaking works too, but I am under the impression that it requires you to make an NUTRIENT mixture, to CHARGE the coco, opposed to just rinsing it.

I also read you should soak it for like 24 hours, to really let the salts on the coco dissolve.

Coco retains a shit ton of calcium ions so make sure if you rinse it, you charge it up right after planting, but if you soaked it in nutrient solution, make sure it doesn't dry out.

@LyryC.... hey bro, hope all is well... really digged those pics you posted of that event you went to.... that glass was epic... thanks for that!

Yeah, I dont have too much of it to wash, maybe only a 5kg brick... I got an outside shower... dont mind getting wet... Im beginning to see it could take a day or two to complete... would rather take a few extra hours and do things "properly"... fuck that sounds weird, "proppperrrly" am I saying that right?

I dont really wanna pre charge it.... well maybe wifff a lil cal/mag...

I thought about breaking clumps off the brick and letting it soak in a tote, washing it around in a sieve... then lifting that and squeezing the excess out by hand.... and placing that stuff in a different tote.... I only need maybe 50L worth of coco... so not that much...

Thanks for the tips, much appreciate bro

Heyyyyyy powers back on.... :woohoo:
It has been the 3rd night this week though.....

Hey smelly, heres how I prep a brick of coir. With those 5 kg bricks, I do one in a 18 gal tote with 6 to 8 gallons of full strength 1.2 ec nutrient water. Don't skimp out n try n save 5 to $10 worth of nutrients for the expense of weeks of screwed up growth while the coir balances out.

Let it soak for 15 min, till its expanded pretty good n break it apart so that the inside gets to saturate n expand.

Next drill 1/4" holes in the bottom of a couple 5 gal buckets. Then break apart the coir into the buckets. IF u have to flush inside, then I use vent screen in the bottom of the bucket to trap any bigger coir from clogging the drain. U can also just use a big flower pot that has drain holes. Might want to use some screen in the bottom of it too.

Evenly pour thru ur nutrient solution. I usually use .5ec till I get to about 1.2ec runoff. Then I water thru with some full strength 1.2ec to have a perfect charge.

Imo, this process gets rid of almost all the residual salt from the coir, n charges it with the exact ratio n concentration of ca n mg to K, so u don't have a stall.

Be prepared, sometimes it takes about 4 times the amount of water to medium. Also if ur using tap, then add that ec into the equation.

@Mirac... shot for the tips brah... I just just got my pens and shit, so all is very new to me... but Im taking notes as I go along... I was planning on just charging it wiff 100g of cal/mag per 5kg brick, as others do how get from the same store.... but Im open to ideas for sure....

@Bug... yeah bees are fucking awesome... so you should be used to getting stung lol... Im only just getting into it... but I already find it real interesting...

4th power cut this fucking week... 2hours plus each time.... Iv been thinking, there actually is something I hate more than the a monkey lover... a group of monkey lovers.... zoo people... but like a heavy petting zoo.... heavy petting monkey zoo... full of monkey dick....

Heyyyy at least I dont need power to wash coco.... yawwwww lets look at it positively.....

Take a bucket and put a bunch of holes in it. Line the inside of the bucket with the pillow case. Wrap the top of the pillow case over the bucket. Take another bucket with the bottom cut off and slide it into the pillow case. So it would be bucket pillow case then bucket.

The bucket inside the pillow case should hold the pillow case up and the bottom bucket will let the pillow case drain. Then run water threw it. Dont go so fast the the pillow case gets pulled out. Have fun.

I had the power going out last summer every day for six to eight hours for a week. The power company was working on it out side of my house. I bitched every time some dumb ass stopped to talk to the work crew. Was driving me crazy cause it was like every five minutes some one stopped. I felt like getting some bear repellent for those idiots.
