The adventures of Dabman & Rosin in the art of the squish

Dab Dragons, and you know at some point some overly dedicated dabber will make it a thing and figure out how to pull it off like an old can just twist a joint. Seeing that I lost my ability to play video games successfully over 40 I already feel left out, but this, this is just insanity.

it might be all the rosin i've been smokin but THERE IS A CRAZY AWESOME DRAGON IN THAT DAB!!!

facing left you can see the snout, brow, and ear, and the front left leg, then the back arches over the dab tool towards the viewer.

:joint: :joint: :joint:

that's exactly my experience. what size press are you using GGK?
usually they look like some sort of cambrian era trilobite/alien sea slug, pretty random that it came out like that...

Big thanks to heady and weird and lap and all the other contributors here. Actually took the time to read the whole thread, and hot damn is there some really useful information here. :thank you:

I'm a recent convert - a buddy recently built a 20 ton press, so I'm excited about the access to squish. :D So far he squished a bunch of old (old) trim for me, and while I know GIGO, I was quite pleased with the result!

However, I'm fuzzy on most of the details. I've got a decent understanding at the 10,000 foot level, but will have to invest more time reading some of the other threads.

I've got a harvest coming up, and I'm curious, what's the consensus in re: the best way to squish flowers. Squish the whole flower, or first turn it in to dry sift, and then press the sift?

The trim that was pressed already was first shaken w/ dry ice, and then the kif was smooshed. Curious if it's worth the hassle to beat up the flowers first, or if there's some goodness I'd be missing out on if I didn't include the whole flower itself in the squish.

Thanks y'all!

Don't use dry ice, it oxidizes the trichomes and results in a dark, sappy oil. Dry sift or bubble if you're going to pre-extract.

Thanks beta! That's a good way to describe the final product. :) Dark for sure.

I've always liked to use dry ice to assist w/ the abuse factor in the sift. Maybe I oughtta swap that out with, I dunno, glass marbles or something? :dunno:

But again, is it even worth it to pre-extract, or just squish the whole daggone thing?

:thank you:

Flowers always come out with the smeary rosin for me. Anyone know why?

i've only been pressing flowers
found that lower temps (170-190) / shorter presses less than a minute make smeary shit that must be cooled to work with
higher temps (200+) / longer presses (over 100 seconds) give less smeary rosin

squish flowers for best flavor.

And more,

The conversion from flower to hash to rosin looks costly in time and final yield. Not to mention the time spent recovering wasteage from each step. Although I imagine there comes a point where you have more material than time.

It is interesting for producing different rosins. No ghost rosin will squish from a flower me thinks.

I prefer the simplicity of pressing flower and sweet leaf. One step, one finished product, one waste.

natural unbleached

Ok thanks! I will try this!
Im surprised its holding, i always thought it would blowout. What kind/amount of pressure are putting?
Ive never got more than 15% with silk/nylon bags, but i need something cheaper and more reliable, the silk always blowouts and melts a bit even around 180f...
Its not easy to tweak this tech, lots of variants in play.

Anyone using enails? Im currently using cartridges with k couples and feel enails should be way more precise, any thoughts, experience?
