The white widow will never be happy in this soil mix. I did my research and bought good amendments for the soil I made but for some reason I didn't double check the quantities . It's close in composition to Subcool's Super Soil (which is the path I will take in the future) and it's NOT a good soil to plant into directly as it's very hot - it needs a lot of buffer of normal soil. So, following Subcool's method, I transplanted the little sog army to bigger containers with different percentages of "poor supersoil" in the bottom as a layer and filled the rest of the container with much colder soil which is a mixture of earth worm castings, perlite and peat moss.
I didn't transplant the big girls since they were very young. The smart pots should air prune roots and turn the soil into a giant fibrous lump. I didn't flush for a while now and I'm currently stocking up on water for the flush. I didn't realise what a massive effort flushing would be - I need upwards of 30L of water for both plants, and that's on the low side!
This is what the transplanted sog army looks like:
I had 6 soil percentages to test:
White Widow with 20%, 40%, 60% "poor supersoil"
El Alquimista with 50%, 60%, 70% "poor supersoil"
The ranges have been chosen that way because I have an El Alquimista clone that tripled in size in 11 days while in flower (now 43cm, see previous post and the measurements written on the side of the plant) and it's roughly 60% poor supersoil and 40% colder soil. I've actually never seen my White Widow happy at all, so I figured its range must be a lot lower than the El Alquimistas.
I only had 5 clones of each strain available so I had to choose which percentage will be tested by only one plant. For the WW I chose 20% and for the EA I chose 60%. This experiment will really help me dial in on what each strain likes.
Seeing how difficult it is to scrog plants and how well the EA clone is doing, I'll change this setup to something similar to Dr Bud's method after the two big girls are chopped.
We have some serious bud development. The high RH in the grow area killed the filter so we had to change it two days ago. Filtering smoke probably didn't help.
Besides the tall EA, we have 2 more flowering clones. We killed off 7 out of the 10 clones we made since they were too weak and stunted or too large to flower. The spare clone is now in veg and we'll probably flower it in the coming days.
Final weight is in at 50g from the El Alquimista and 30g from the White Widow. Chopped 01/03/2014, EA smoke is kinda heavy and the white widow is more cerebral albeit weak due to the suffering of the plant.
Nice man! Keep it going now. Build a veg cab : x haha. a bit more yield than the computer huh! This screen wasnt 100% filled so now you know you can veg it out a little more. or maybe use another plant or 2 in there. Good vibes to you!
