I don't make any more than anybody else in this field. I went to school for my plumbing license and hvac certification. Work was slow during Bush and Obama, I worked several jobs before getting a job on a maintenance team at a state prison for 6 years. Work has finally picked up but life is not as sweet as you think, a few bad policy changes and everything will go back to shit.

Trump complained in a tweet about CAs forest management practices being responsible for the fires. He talked about clearing dead debris. "Rake the leaves," he said. Trump received a barrage of criticism for his tweet.
Gavin Newsom becomes governor of CA and his first order was to remove debris in the forest to help reduce wild fire risk. He was widely acclaimed for his courageous action. Lol.

The privatisation of our prison system is a huge mistake. Turning it into an industry made it easy to exploit cheap prison labor. The entire concept needs gutted and started over. No one should be turning a profit off inmate labor.

Forest management budget was cut by 2b$. When you don't have the funds how can you do the job. Ca spent 111M$ since 2017. Half of which was spend on Fed lands. Ca Budget was paying to keep fed lands upkeep. It was the Fed gov that caused the fire issues here in Cali by slashing funds to rake those leaves.
Yep, the Cal state has been doing a great job of forest management for many years. That's why we don't have very many serious fires

Reagan brought our wages to a standstill. Bush brought us a recession. Trump is adding trillions to our debt.
The economy was good under Clinton. Obama clumsily brought us out of recession.

I think if you understood what I considered a functional society that is worthy of moving forward you would probably agree with me more often. You just doubt how I think we should get there.

Seems to make sense that building codes would reflect the environment and require fire resistant materials on exterior walls and roofs. Those cedar shake roofs - what were they thinking?
I just have a problem with large central government, being the tool. I have no problem with individual communities choosing what their local government should look like. I still have the freedom to decide to live in a different community, if I don't like something. Or better yet, I can start my own community. If you want to have a commune more power to you. The smaller a government the greater the accountability to the constituents.

One of the main things about California fires is the Demographics of the community.
I have retired firefighters living on both sides. No doctors though.
The area of Santa Rosa that burned, Fountaingrove near the old HP plant ... 1/6 doctors.
Based on aerial photos 1 week after the fire, the privacy bushes around the lawns of the houses didn't burn. It wasn't a wall of flames situation. Every house was salvageable, it just needed someone with a hose to deal with the small spot fires.
The culture seems to affect the response to the fire.
I'm setting up tanks of water with hoses primed because ... I'm scared of fire.
In California, the thinking seemed to be ... the firefighters/ government will protect us.
As far as my roof, it's the kind of shingle that is sort of tar with gray pebbles sort of. Not cedar.
Yes, cedar does burn doesn't it. I have a lukewarm Fatwa against cedar trees on my property, because one of the live green ones ignited with very minimal flame a few years ago.
I'm very impressed by plants that are highly flammable when they're totally green !
