Thai weed from Thailand

I'm dying to hear about smoke reports from the Prempavee buds. I have some seeds from the Tiger Tail.

Is it just by chance? Like smoking and smoking flowers until we hit the one and hope it has seeds?
Damn straight!

I can't help but recommend that you go back to where you got the pre-rolled ganja that you know was good and try to get seed from that. Unless one of the Prempavee buds turn out as good.

I can't believe I am recommending this, but if growing on your island is your only option, you will need to cross it with something suited to your location. Preserve the Thai genetics in clone and seed forms.

Did you already smoked those Prepamvee buds? How was it?

I just started right this minute. But I’m not being organized lol I have to sit tonight properly smelling and feeling it to give a right description.

I just smoked a HangKrarork inDang.
The smell in the bag: green tea, dried rose, floral, eucalyptus.
Grind flower: sutil green mango, cumin, curry, celery
Flower is somewhat sticky, crisp smokes clean and doesn’t have a spicy tongue.
Very mild high not trippy, great smoke to start the morning got me moving around. I could smoke this all day I think.

Also noted increased Muslim influence here, wondering how that plays with the canna scene in the south. My take on Phayam, it seems to be run by Germans, still low key and peaceful.
Also I was told that KD resides in Koh Tao and the possibility of visiting the dude is very real, pick up his KD ko Tao, maybe I can ask him about the Thai stick… the few people I have been able to talk cannabis with really insist that the original Thai stick is no longer, there is no record of any person keeping mothers from the 70s Thai stick… so what ever is out there is a derivative of.
Little Koh Chang next to Phayam is Little Germany. Very good spaetzle mit goulash there
It is impressive the amount of farang living in Thailand. Many european colonies, Little Italy, Little Germany, Little Swiss. I wonder if Thailand is the country in the world with the biggest amount of germans living in as a diaspora

Who is KD? How old is this KD?
25 years ago there was not even a remembering of Thai Stick in Thailand and there was a war on drugs run by the father of the current prime minister.
Many people I asked that time didnt know or heard about Thai Stick. At that time internet was very slow, people used to use the web just for sending emails and cybercafes were popular. At that time Kodak shops you had everywhere even in Krabi. Today you dont see anymore tourist with the huge and heavy photo machine
Today with the fast internet everybody looks at google. It is impressive how much Google affect the life of people for good or bad

Some things change notoriously with time some dont
Weed is changed. It is not the same
Thai food is the same as 25 years ago and it is surprising to me. Quality is same but now it is enriched because with the german colonies you also get the german bakeries and I love german bread more than thai food. 25 years ago there were no colonies of any nationality
In South America food is not the same anymore same like weed.

BC Lone Wolf, what is your impression of the thai economy? Is it cheap for you?
I am starting to realize there has been a huge change. A change of kings. Last time I was in Thailand was in 2017. During those 19 years I was coming to Thailand under King Bhumivol rule the economy after the 1997 crisis was very different from today. Prices were stable in baht and the cost of living was a lot lower than today
It seems current King Vajiralongkorn spent most of his adult life in Germany and I am seeing in many areas a jump up in value and a lot of efforts in putting up value to strategic areas.
Food prices and supermarket prices for me are the same as South America. Restaurant prices in central tourist areas are on par with south america and this never was the case under King Bhumivol rule. I find current prices are between x2 and x4 in baht compared with the prices of King Bhumivol time.

In Bangkok I saw a lot of street sellers removed and in Khao San hundreds of shops have been swept away

So things change and have to adapt. South American weed preparaquat time in the 80s was true breeding as Hempy mentioned. This weed is gone. The truebreeding varieties were very special, thats why wars were waged against them

I'm dying to hear about smoke reports from the Prempavee buds
I would like to hear from BC wolf if the second or third spliff of the day is still doing him something mild or just the first as it was my experience.
I had from Prempavee 2 landraces and 2 hybrids. The CBD landrace weed is not of my liking, I prefer hybrids than this crap
The 2 hybrids I got from Prempavee were better than her landrace weed but the hybrids I bought in bangkok for half the price were a lot better than Prempavee hybrids.
As a customer I prefer the hybrids from Bangkok

In general in Thailand all dispensaries sell indoor hybrid and outdoor hybrid is not good. In the mornings in dry season in Isaan you have over 80% humidity, so basically indoor grown hybrid will beat outdoor grown hybrid easily. I never smoked hybrids before growing them. Now I snmoked hybrids grown in proper environments. The difference is huge. So judging prempavee hybrid is not very fair because Prem hybrid should be grown indoors to make a proper comparison. grown hybrid outdoors here is not match against the indoor grown bud

The good news is here; To all and everyone who wishes to order from Preempave, it works, no BS. Maximum respect for this lady and her team, because I recognize the effort it takes to grow organic and also send the flowers out in a very calculated manner. Package got to my hostel a week ago, so no fucking around with sending to any one. My order was a modest 100$ and still was processed with respect and diligence.
Make sure before you order that you either have PayPal or go direct to the bank and deposit cash like I did. Time your order with your stays, try to order at least a week im advanced.

Respect because she deserves it.

What I respect is the transparency of the whole thing, she is not hiding her WhatsApp number, or her address, or any of her intentions. She clearly wants to visited and be public, that’s the attitude of a worthy cause.

All the flowers have different appeal, structure and wow smell… and seeds !!

So if my experience helps anyone else please I encourage to try it. Going so far up there might be out of most people’s way but she can and will deliver anywhere in Thailand.
Well, in Asia everybody ships no problem. In South America people are not reliable with shipping nor with the products provided. In Asia goods you paid for will always be sent. The cheating consists in sending you something you didnt order on purpose. The system here is very straightforward. You can pay on delivery as well, this is something in South America you cannot do.
This is why so much money changes hands everyday in Asia. If people would cheat and rob your money, the system would fail immediately. The whole asian economy now runs on apps and virtual money with a lot of shipping. Shipping inside Thailand is cheap reliable and fast, no matter provider nor what you are buying

One question tho; if no clones/mothers where kept, how can we know what we are looking for? Is it just by chance? Like smoking and smoking flowers until we hit the one and hope it has seeds?
The possibility of that seed having that same phenotype/chemotype are also a lottery?? And wouldn’t my environment im Canada shape the pheno into another thing?
What we called land races were not hybridised they were true breeding, you can't compare them to modern hybrids and when we say Land races they were not wild they were domesticated crops. They were selected and inbreed for 100s if not a 1000 or more years.

Thailand has a very old history with cannabis, as do other cultures.

Go to 10m on the video, there you will see KD he went back to Thailand in 86 and couldn't find a decent Thai and yet my mate who travelled to Thailand monthly for work could still find amazing Thai and even collected seed of what the Thais called golden Buddha.

Every field they go to have hermaphrodites being grown, it really is disappointing to see.

Everything's become more expensive everywhere since covid, and more so after the Ukraine war because of energy prices, no different here, Funky.

The outdoor grown flower of a 50% sat hybrid should be as good as an indoor grow flower, the drying and cure can make or break any flower grown in or out, that should be said.

How many of them are running numbers of the outdoor hybrids selecting and keeping clones of the keepers, and then re-running them, my moneys on few if any.

When you see Dutch coffee shop type flowers smoking up better than what they are calling local Thai varieties, It's safe to say it the local scene is toast.

the difference may be because they are not the same hybrids,
and perhaps due to some growing constraints , or not properly dialed in , experienced enough etc ,

you can definitely grow as good and better hybrids in the tropics than indoor , but it may take them time to dial things in ...

DC I found this earlier today, not sure if your close to here, but it sells KD hybrids grown outdoors good luck with it all.

Look for KD outdoor grown - sold in lots of dispensaries in Thailand.

It is grown on Koh Tao…

The shop Green Eagle Shop 2022 provides K.D Outdoor, as well as many other items.

To be fair it’s not their first rodeo (Europe coming to SEA to make colonies). Hopefully Thailand being backed by Germany for weed business creates a snowball effect and we can see more and more of the EU legalize cannabis… France has to be the next, and Philippines for that matter.

KD is a point of reference for mainstream Thai weed (my pov), possibly being the first recognizable face in the Thai cannabis movement??? He also claims spreading “enhanced” Thai genetics aka hybridization all over Thailand. He is an old grower and probably has lots of stories to tell.
______

My impression of Thai economy, commerce and trade- they are thriving hard! I see more than what I see in Canada. Mind you I live far from a Canadian metropolis so my community is not near as developed as Krabi for example. But also living a decade in Montreal, I can say with lots of responsibility, THAI economy is a couple years ahead of Canadian. QR codes bank transfers, E SIM cards, a very functional and reliable public transport/postage system, there is fresh water in every island I have been to, citizens are aware of the importance of building community, respect and trust in the institution (monarchy). The list goes on…

Is it cheap for me?? The short answer is yes.
But is it really cheap for me??? No it’s not, and I don’t think it’s cheap at all for the Thai locals either. But they manage to build and thrive, there is no shortage of building supplies and everyone seems to be either building something or selling something.

The one thing that shakes me is; where are the homeless?? Where are the fentanyl folded zombies I see in Nanaimo or East Hastings in Vancouver???

Yup there isn’t much here, everyone has a place to sleep and seems like no obvious problem of fentanyl/meth or heroin public health problem. That to me says a shit load of the way they live and thrive here.

And we could have an entire podcast on this matter.
______

Yesterday I smoked all the buds, at least one grm joint of each.

The 2 that really did something
Foitong
Mekong purple

These 2 had medium spice on the tongue and a mild disassociation effect. I won’t put it up there as trippy but I felt not in the present moment but somewhere else in time and space. I could linger around the ether but I was not tripping. Can’t hide to say I smoked these 2 joint last night after food and in 2 hours found myself in bed and sleeping…
My wife (my no tolerance POV) after on puff said it’s not a head high, it made her present, aware. No heart palpitations and no anxiety for her. She did signal the frontal cortex her forehead and eye.

If I had to judge her gear I would say it’s excellent but not potent/trippy. It’s an excellent product in the organoleptic properties, the taste and smell is very different than hyped stuff. It’s not a fruity sweet profile most of the flowers have dry rose, green tea, eucalyptus, leathery scent, dark notes with some bitterness like cacao, I even got a hint of fish sauce on that Mekong purple….

Here is the KO punch, it’s not like that one joint in Bangkok. That’s a new standard for me, nothing I have smoked in the recent past compares to what that joint made me feel. A Non trained smoker would have had a panic attack smoking that first joint, no BS.

The flower structure of the Foitong looks soooo apart from the rest of what I have. Tiny calyx, almost no sugar leaf, branchy and just small buds stacked on opposite sides upwards.

I woke up high still, so the cannabinoids spectrum is different than usual weed.
_______

Could I be wrong about her genetics? Very possibly I could just be experiencing a medium/avg grower product.
I don’t think it’s top shelf outdoors… her and I can be measured with the same scale as I also grow outdoors with a very extreme/orthodox approach to organic farming.
Maybe she needs to learn about Light Dep? Male segregation?? Pheno Selection and keepers. Parental pools… I mean for many times we experience weed but seldomly we experience master grower success products.

Not saying she is a terrible grower, and I am definitely not affirming I am a better grower, but I need more evidence that she understands genetics and not just growing organic.
I also can’t help to think about the soil… I see clay, limestone and very red soil, that’s gotta be something that I taste back in the flower… totally different soil than pacific north west.

the foitong doesnt look like it was ripe when harvested ,
it looks like there were many white pistils still ,
maybe i cant see it well enough to judge,
but thats how it looks from here anyhow ,

what do u see ??

i think its probably just a case of some folks need to become better growers there ,
and use better genetics , before we see much stuff like was once grown there ,
at least given your experience with the stuff in bkk , there is some of it still around and some know how to get a decent finished product ..

I want to understand what true breeding represents but I am ignorant because I have never experienced true breeding (yet). Everything I have touched is a hybrid mind my only 15 years cannabis experience with a very modest 7 years of “breeding” events (won’t say experience).

If I wouldn’t have separated from the heard I would praising the hype and most definitely growing only that. I’m glad I just do my own thing and that has taken me to the point I am at. I wanna grow the purest sativa and also the purest Thai now that I can officially say that is a category of its own.

But I am fascinated about costal genetics or island genetics, that’s what got me to Jamaica and later to Philippines… there’s something about the hostility of the island environment that shapes the phenos to a certain warrior level, with progressive selection one can develop a serious hard to kill weed.

I truly want the trippiest weed just as much as you do brother, I wanna smoke LSD every day as much as you. But I also can’t deny the work done by the KD’s or the Preempave’s, if something they have probably dialled their environment and grow mediums, and maybe they have the eye for selection… Im more than happy to take that home as a starting point for me and if I can take up another level, I can then pass it to somebody else so they keep leveling up.

Big possibility. Foitong has no density/mass compared to the other flowers. Foitong makes the others look like hybrids.

But yeah undoubtedly we could be experimenting a avg grower product. Not an expert.

Just like a 30 year carpenter can make shit work despite the long experience and 4 years newly graduated apprentice can build a solid house.
Some people don’t have passion for what they do. So even though they might be growing in the Mekong for 4 decades they are still stuck inside their frame work with no possibility of moving up because they are conformed with their result.

Maybe the new wave of tournaments will raise the standard, maybe if the growers SMOKED their product the quality would drastically change for better.

If they don’t try their product how can they be assertive on quality?

Disapointing, but at least you got a taste of what the goal is. Hopefully, you can return to Bangkok, see, test, and find seeds in the buds used to make those joints.

Very possible. I have seen stunning differences in quality from the same cutting in slightly different growing conditions. It seems the better the genetics, the more difficult it is to grow correctly. Hash plants are so easy to grow, but people will never get to experience the variety that can exist if they stick with easy.
there is some of it still around and some know how to get a decent finished product
This is actually great news. Thanks for your reports and pictoral documentation BC Lone Wolf.

Just been in Thailand for 3 weeks. Very disappointed with the weed in Bangkok, mostly because of quality and price and I reckon most of it is PGR weed. Also, alot of it is falsely labelled. There are not many terps present and it all looks and smells the same. It is roughly 20-35 AUD per gram and some of it is seedy, even in the well known brand shops. Most weed grown here is picked at 50-55 days so not really grown to its full potential. It appears to be all hybrid/indica with no real sativa to be found. I found something decent (Hybrid) on the street for $5AUD per gram and was heavily seeded.
In Pattaya the weed is a little better quality although you need to look real hard. Picked up a half ounce when I visited a grow site. Paid $30AUD for the half and quality was good enough.
I have seen 3 indoor and 2 outdoor grows here already. We are way ahead of Thailand in terms of plant quality and bud quality. I reckon they need another 5-7 years to work it out. It is hard to get quality gear here like lights and nutes. It is the High temps and high humidity play havoc on the plants. Also plants are sprayed with insecticides( Non Cannabis). Also the water quality is terrible There is no pesticide or mould testing as is required in the USA.
Cali weed is available here. 3.5g for 90-150 AUD. I heard from a reutable source that the Cali weed that makes it here is stuff that did not pass testing in the USA.
The weed market here is just for people who dont smoke often. Shop customers ask for the weaker weed ( Pre rolled) because of their inexperience. I have seen mums and dads buy pre rolled spliffs .
I reckon the weed was better pre legalisation. I used to get ounces of compressed Laos brick for $10-20 and it was good enough once you cleaned out the stem and seeds. Tasted good too.
Visited Koh Chang and whilst looking forward to some real sativa there, none was to be found. The Thai weed was total shit. Cut early and definitely grown to its full potential. Looked horrible but anyway I tried it. Purchased 4 times from different areas, had a test smoke and it was thrown away.
Most of the buds in the areas I visited were just smalls, the type of bud that I compost here.
Maybe next time, I will take my own

This is part of the transformation of the economy perhaps? You mention so eloquently many many great examples of economic or social improvements you have witnessed. The old mantra “don’t get high on your own supply” is maybe good for the economy and part of the expanding standard of living or improved quality of life. I’m just trying to affirm the benefit and quality of your observations. It is like I am there with you reading this.

It’s very good reportage as they would say in journalism. Excellent stuff!!!

The focus is on sales not consumption so that might explain the lack of quality control if you will??? Maybe a chain of smokers lounge locations with QR coded smoke reports for top local strains will come soon??

I’m enjoying these reports

I believe Prempavee is fairly new to growing cannabis. I've watched some of her youtube videos to check out her genetics and growing etc.

I think she is growing similar to the way it has been done in her country for many, many years. From what I saw she is using techniques similar to what people would think of as Korean natural farming. Her growing environment looked challenging to me, including the soil.

Thank you for the review of her weed as I picked up some of her seeds including the Golden String Foitong.

Im stuck with your post because it’s very true, Im sitting here smoking the Foitong writing to you because; you have a good eye. Just like when y’all agreed the “Thai stick” I got at Phayam had the hybrid looks.
I picked the Foitong buds I took better pictures and yes lots of pistils left, and it’s branchy like if the flowers were freeze dried… looks unripe, early chop. And if it’s a January crop how long was this dried for and cured???

Your post got me thinking about the Thai way to process their crops. That’s a really important step for making good weed become outstanding weed.

Anyway;

The thing I can’t deny here is that this flower has such a unique smell, I get lipstick, tea, dry rose petals, eucalyptus. Smokes very smooth but it has a spice to it I wouldn’t consider it sweet or creamy. Mild high, great taste.

So what I read in her description is not necessarily accurate. And then I think; she don’t smoke it??? Who is describing this? And why is this unripe? January crop 2 weeks dry??? No cure? I keep going down this rabbit hole.

Lots of people been at her farm for a while maybe they could help us out describing what is happening after the chopping. How is it dried and cured before market?

It’s good stuff, and it’s down my alley organic, outdoors, local, cheap, and it does the job. But it’s not potent, that’s the beauty of it. It’s probably not bred for potency my humble opinion.

Being landrace genetics it’s a complete different palate than what we are used to from modern hybrids and indoor genetics.

Maybe when we grow out her stuff we can start doing other types of selection hand picked keepers.

She's probably chopping quickly because other things are ripe or the demand is high, weather may not be favourable at her farm due to pest or disease pressure etc. people need to make money and if they are buying it and she has to supply it no problem, or maybe her customers prefer it like that?

Ime early chop shows you the type of character it might have but weak, so just need to grow to maturation to see if it has real power and full character etc.

100%

Our mission then is to grow the gear out and really build something fabulous with it. I’m definitely here to bring the seeds with me and work them out.

The possibility are endless.
