You weren't imagining things. Topping at the first possible node is an old school trick coined by GMT. There was alot of people here on IC giving it a shot at one time including myself.
I prefer to top at the 5th or so node myself now and trim anything below for the flowering phase.
Tipping has seemed to work in my favour this round, but I did it because of limited space. Tipping can be strain specific also, it works better on some plants than other. I must say though, it works a great deal in directing all energies into one or two main colas

I know it's early, but I'm really interested in that RompStar :canabis:
Looking forward to the pics :lurk:

Hey TML:wave:how's it going, my northern friend? I'm glad I wasn't imagining the super early topping technique. I'll probably wait for a few nodes. I don't want to accidentally kill something, ya know? Oh, got a bit of info on the RompStar (thank goodness for google)

RompStar = RomP19(Romberry[Romulan x Blueberry] x Peak 19) x Texas Mystic(Alaskan Trainwreck x Sweet Tooth #4)

These should be very interesting to watch grow. Lot's of variation swimming around in the gene pool! No telling what we'll come up with.

Heya twisted...
just thought I'd throw a few more of my thoughts your way..You are getting great advice!!!...don't be afraid to ask more ?'s!!!
as far as topping/tipping goes..here is my stratigy that has had the best payoff so far rom my 2.25 gallon pots:

Top just after the first set of 3-leafers, then another time on one side after the next node. This will leave you with a dominant side that will still grow into a cola about the size of the original plant, had you left it alone, but you will have 2 more (side cola's??) that get pretty fat especially if you emply the tipping technique on the top cola:

:edit: these plants work especially well if you place the taller cola shoot off tward the wall/outside of your cab/space, leaving the smaller ones more in the middle thereby creating a kind of "stadium" effect maximising the light usage coming off your bulb..Oh yea and I can't tout WORM CASTINGS!!! loud enough..:D:/edit:
Good luck bro!!!

hey twisted,I'm along for the ride too, just read your whole first grow thread, the trials and tribulations.Ended up with some nice frosty buds in the end so that was a great finish.

In regards to those 6 year old ww seeds that are falling over unable to hold the tiny weight of the first leaves,I would maybe try and save any other ones you have by burying half the flimsy stem with more soil,it works.I've done it plenty of times before.Once they get past that stage and get a bit of breeze on them they thicken right up

all the best for this year

Hey everyone:wave: I've got some pics :jump: but first....

Anima:wave:nice drawing, dude! I'm going to utilize it later when they're ready for topping. About the stadium effect, I've got the strongest bulb in our solar system...literally. Yeah, I'm using the big halide in the sky again this year. I don't plan on going indoors until we have a big enough house. Anyway, I think I might do 3 cuts. The first initial topping, and then I'll top each of those tops, so I should end up with 4 colas on each plant, right?

burning_red:wave:welcome aboard, my friend. Plenty of room in my twisted garden! My first grow was awesome. I learned so much. I wish I would've gotten a bigger yield, but at least I got some premium buds to smoke, right? I wish I would've thought of your advice earlier! Unfortunately, the WW seeds are no more. I tossed 'em a few days ago. :badday: Oh well, I've got some great genes this time around. Well, enjoy the show.

First up, we've got RomP19#1. It's slowly catching up to the others.

Here is RomP19#2. I needed to put the rocks in the cup because the damned thing kept getting blown over by the wind.

Now comes the Mikush's. Here's #1. Notice that once again this year, they are growing much faster than the others. Last year, they turned out to be males. I hope this is not the case this year. Maybe if we all just will it to happen they will turn out female. C'mon, I need everyone to join in!

Now, on Mikush#2 below, notice the yellowish blotching. Can anybody see that? What could be some causes of this?

Well, that's it for now. The two Apollo's haven't popped through the soil yet, and the two RompStar's didn't make it. My fault totally. Good thing I've got at least 20 more seeds, of which two are germinating as we speak. Well, see everyone in a few days or so. :joint:

:woohoo: Pics! :jump:

Looking great buddy...I just love looking at the babies :ying:

Seedlings can usually take care of themselves...they'll tell you when they need food...they can often turn a colours or grow weird at first because they are growing at such a fast rate! :canabis:

Best of luck with all these girls. Sounds like sound top shelf quality genes you're working with :yummy:

what's up everybody? This is mostly just a "bump" post. No real updates, except the new RompStar's are in the soil. They should be doing much better this time around. I'll post some pics in a few days so you guys can see the progress.

What's up, guys?:wave:I've got some free time :jump: so I'm gonna spend sometime up here on icmag. So, what's everybody going to do for 4/20? This 4/20 is a big day for my whole family. It's a big day for me (obviously), but we're also getting family portraits. Oh yeah, and if you ask my son, he's waiting for that day because that's when some new Pokemon games come out. Also, next saturday is my birthday! :headbange :jump: I've decided that for my birthday I want the impossible. I want to use the olympic torch to light my bong :bongsmi: Well, I'm gonna go around on a posting spree.

*edit* hey, I just noticed I have three karma blocks now! Thanks, everyone! I'll try to get it back to everybody.

Hey guys....kind of a shitty update. One of my Mikush's was struck down by high blowing winds. Actually, both Mikush's and both RomP19's got blown down, but I was able to rescue all but the one Mikush. The biggest, of course. That's okay, though. No worries. I'll just pretend it was a male. Besides, I've already got a replacement germinating as we speak, err, type!

What's up, guys? My plants are starting to recover from their tumble, I think. The Mikush is kinda acting weird. It's leaves are really twisted. Almost all the way around, actually. I'm sure this has something to do with the fall, but I dunno....if anyone's got any advice, I'd love to hear it. I'll post some pics of it tomorrow(don't wanna disrupt the dark cycle). Also, one of my RomP19's has some pretty burnt leaves. Again, this didn't happen until after the fall, so I think it has something to do with that. I should mention that they are still showing new growth, so at least they've got that going. Well, I'll see everyone tomorrow with pics.

i think all you can do with the roughed up plants is keep em on schedual and pray and observe. young stress can lead to hermie tendancies, so keep an eye is you best bet. by the way twisted i will be around. sorry to hear about that. i will pray for them once.

Hey, hey:wave: SirSmokalot, welcome to the twisted garden! Hmmm, maybe that's what I should call this thread? :muahaha: Anyway, the Mikush's leaves have untwisted their way back to normal, now they're just drooping. I'm pretty sure that's due to an extra watering when they fell. I just scooped them up and quickly filled in some soil and watered them. Thanks for your kind words and prayers. I had heard that hermies can arise due to young stress. I really hope this doesn't happen. I'll just have to keep an extra close watch on 'em.

Sleepy:wave:welcome, buddy. It's good to be back. Wow, I just saw a snail eat a slug on the Discovery Channel. I didn't think they did that.

Well, here are some more pics, as promised:

Here's the remaining Mikush. The leaves are pretty droopy, so I'm going to let the soil dry out before I try topping it, because it's just now reached the 3rd node, or should I wait a bit longer?

top view

RomP19#1 The runt, it's growing much faster now. She received the least amount of damage from the fall.

RomP19#2 this is the one with the burnt leaf tips. I think you can see it in this pic, it's the one on the right.

side view of RomP19#2

And here are some baby pics of my RompStars! Awwww, aren't they cute?

Well, that's all for now, folks. Hope you enjoy the pics. I didn't take any of my Apollo's because they are just barely breaking through the soil. I have a replacement Mikush germinating and it was showing a tiny little taproot this morning so it should be ready for planting in a day or so. (I like the taproot to be about half an inch long before planting.) Hope everyone has a great weekend and a terrific 4/20! :rasta: :joint: :smoke: :canabis: :smoker: :bongsmi: :smoweed: :smoweed:

good call letting the babe dry out mostly. i suggest wait to top until she has recovered fully from one stress before you put it through more. plants do handle topping very well at that size but considering the circumstances....patience is a valued virtue for the ganja grower elite! i am still working on that myself hehe. looks like she bounced back nice so far so a couple days of waitin shouldn't itch ya to bad.
my 2 cents bud brudda

I agree with SIRS here, let that plant kind of start some new growth before doing anything to them, you have a long time before you need to worry about training

But your plants are looking good, and happy 420 to you as well

Hey TT, just thought I'd cruise down the road a piece and check out the Twisted Garden.
Bud, those seedlings look just fine.
Your gonna do so much better this year. More plants.
So last year you were growing Mikush, but they were males, right. Your due for a couple girls then, eh? So you ended up with just a couple C99 if I remember. I haven't got to try it yet,(I know it's gonna kick butt), but I got a present a little while ago. A nice cut of C99.
Bummer about the WW. I have some WWxSSH going. Should be bomb smoke.
happy 4:20

 :joint: So, how the hell is everybody? Hopefully, still recovering from yesterday. I'm not really sure what I was smoking yesterday. It was from Phoenix and they called it "Purp". I'm not sure if it was the Purp that I've read about, but it was damn good, and purple as shit, too. Kinda smelled like old grapes. Yeah, throughout the day, we tried twice to have a barbeque. First time, the fire went out. Completely....or so we thought. We got the bright idea to dump the charcoals into my old plastic trashcan. Everything was cool until it started smoking. I picked it up to take it over to my water spout, but by then I had already lost half of the coals because they melted thru the bottom. Fucking hilarious. You guys should've been there. The second try was much better. The food was awesome. The weed was awesome. Even the beer was awesome. Beck's and Stella. Perfect day for me. I seriously hope you all had just as awesome of a day as I did, if not better. Live well, my friends.

SIR:wave: They jumped back quite quickly. I didn't get online yesterday, and I probably should have(maybe) because I topped the Mikush and RomP19#2 today. They looked like they were ready for it. The leaves weren't droopy anymore and they seemed to be enjoying life. We'll see what happens, eh? I think they can handle it. I have faith in the ganja! Strong plant!

Dog:wave:as stated above, I may have jumped the gun with topping. They don't seem to be in any distress right now. I did it early this morning and call me crazy, but I think they kinda liked it. They really "came to life" after the chop. I dunno, we'll see in a week or so, right?

Zeus:wave:whaddup? Thanks for poppin' in, bud!

Anima:wave:Thanks for the well wishes, friend. Don't be a stranger, now.

hazy:wave:man, this wind is seriously getting under my skin. I'm glad you liked the baby pics, but unfortunately, the wind got to one of them before I could attempt a rescue. I still haven't decided if I wanna throw another RompStar in, or germ my last A11 seed. Hmmmm....I also think I'm going to do much better this year. Last year, started out with 5, ended up with 2. This year, starting out with 8, and I hope I end up with at least 4 girls. My Mikush's were males last year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a girl this year. I really wanted to smoke that last year. Nice on the C99. I'm sure you'll enjoy it thoroughly. I did:D Sounds like you have some kickass strains going!

Happy belated 4/20 again to everyone! My laptop is about to die, so I'm gonna get off for now. Besides, I need a good night's sleep after yesterday. I'll get back to everybody's threads I didn't get to today.
