Thanks for the answer man.
I'm in Australia so everything i use for my soil is collected, i took away the fact you use straw at the base, would it be possible to replace the straw with washed lucerene (alfala meal)? Your plants are beautiful, well grown.

Can't wait till the harvest day(s) on these ladies!

you and me both brother! :dance013:

I just breezed through this thread, and few things I gotta say to you TeamMicrobe... 1. I admire how much work you put into your garden... far more than mixing x,y,z bottled nutes and apply. and 2. you grow some amazing stuff, insanely pretty plants my dude.

from one bodhi fan to another, I wish the best for you and your garden!

THANK you lolryn!! That made me smile :smoke:

I gotta thank the genetics as well, Bodhi is hands down one of the best breeders I've come across in my 10 years growing. Blessings man.

I use the straw as a mulch, yes. It's purpose is mainly to retain moisture in the top layer since that's where most microorganisms reside, so I layer it thick with like 2'' of straw. It breaks down and provides carbon to feed the microbes, so substituting this with alfalfa wouldn't serve the same purpose unfortunately. It would actually be too much for the plants if you used that much alfalfa. But, sprinkling a teaspoon of alfalfa in with compost/earthworm castings directly underneath the mulch layer will greatly benefit your plants. Sometimes active soil eats up Nitrogen and begins to take it from the lower half of the plant (N is mobile) so I like to sprinkle a 1/2 teaspoon - 1 teaspoon in a circle around my trunks when I transplant to prevent this from happening. This was before I began using cover crops though, I no longer sprinkle N because the covers fix atmospheric N into the soil and does the same thing pretty much.

As far as substitutes for the straw, you can go with:

Cocoa Shells (great for hosting fungal hyphae)
Compost
Earthworm Castings (I like to mix in 1/3 rice hulls with castings)
Composted wood mulch
Lava Rock
Cover Crops
Leaf Trimmings from the plant itself

Steer clear of bark, cedar, pine, and any other mulch that contains dye in it. These aren't organic or safe for consumable herbs. :tiphat:

Day 50

Day 50

These are all Silver Lotus #2 shots (she was the only girl I had time to bring out of the tent tonight)

My watering regimen for every 4th day. See the beginning of this thread for my full routine. I like these ketchup bottles for holding things like the Agsil16H, it lets me just measure out the 5 ml without mixing up minute amounts of powder and having to mix it up. For those who don't know, Agsil16H is Potassium Silicate and the same ingredient used in products like Silica Blast. This is it's pure form, and far healthier/effective for plants. Plus it's like 1/4 the cost of Silica Blast; a no brainer for any conscious gardener.

I cut some small branches to taste test to see if I can chop some of these down in time for Christmas, this is basically to see if any N is still present in the flowers. These 3 strains have began senescence, but are only about half way through by the looks of it. The taste test in 5 days will give me a better idea on if I should chop early or not. If so, I'll take about 3/12 plants down for the Holidays. The rest will finish out completely

Yup cc is the organic guy ! I met him at grass city 6 years ago I think . He is smart ! He has been dying of cancer so I'm surprised he is still around. I once went through every word he ever spoke on the grass city copied it and pasted it in a file and have it permanently! He can get a hair across his ass and gross people out to . He can't stand stoner science! We all ask him to right a book but his health wouldn't let him . A lot if stoners think they know organics , if it doesn't Jive with him it's probably stoner science !

You got the pleasure to meet him?! *Napoleon Dynamite voice* luckyyyyyyy

I had no idea he was sick though, that's such a shame to hear. Poor guy. Do you know what type of cancer it is? Dude I would love to see that file. I bet it's long as all hell though...

He's such an inspiration to me man. I was guilty of applying stoner science at one time too, and it's because real agriculture practices just aren't promoted in the industry. He's a savior for all growers alike. I wish he could write that book because I would read it in a week!

I'm bummed to hear that as well. I know he's the root of the direction I'm going. Just listened to him on the A. Dunn show last night for the 10th time. I bet if you made a organized thread of what you coppied it could be a sticky in the organic section.

Just google "Adam Dunn organic". You could listen to the whole thing or forward to around 55 minutes when CC gets on.
