Had a bit of an accident recently and lost everything in my mother/clone box. I was more than half way through flower so thought I'd do some air layering to try and save what I had in flower. Air layerig is a pain in the arse technique for taking clones in late flower. (this is the only guide I could find http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=130778&highlight=air-layering)
Thing is I was really stoned (not unusual tbh) and forgot the air layering part and just cut a bud off trimmed the lower parts dunked in clonex and put it in coco same as I would with a normal clone. A few minutes later I thought 'd'oh!' and went and did it properly but I kept the little buds in coco watering every day with bubbled plain water, no dome, same as I normally do when cloning in coco, just to see what would happen. Surprisingly they rooted within 10-14 days same as any other cut would
Once they were rooted they needed to reveg so I gave them a decent amount of grow food, around 0.6-0.7ec,
here they are just starting to reveg
and a few days later
in a few more days I'll be able to take cuts or pot them on and flower them out. Revegged clones are very strong branchy plants great for flowering bush style or keeping as mothers.
So if you ever have a plant that looks great in flower but you forgot to save a clone of this is the best answer, much less energy used than reveging a full plant and if you time it right you can go straight into flower as soon as the first run is finished.
I didn't write down dates but this whole process, from cutting the bud off the plant, hasn't taken longer than 4 weeks. This may work with other cloning techniques but I wouldn't use anything where a dome is needed or the bud will most likely rot.
