Im still along for the ride. At this point in Hydro( my past grows) im running close to 1000 ppm and my plants are growing like crazy with no burn. Is the low ppm a soil thing, a SSH thing or your thing?
Tks BK
Edit I see your at 30 mil of bloom at this point in hydro Im running 15 mil bloom 7 mil LK and 5 mil calmag. Im guessing the soil/hydro formulas are quite different.
I try to not get much over about 750PPM. Sativas are pretty efficient at taking nutes and so you don't need high PPMs IMO.
I also feed every watering...another reason I keep them down. IMO constant smaller feedings are better than dosing them higher and then just plain water. But lots of folks like to do it differently. The thing with soil is once it is in there, it is THERE. cant get it out. Hydro is different because it is so dynamic. Changes are almost instantly felt by the plants. So it is easier to control feeding in that sense. I don't know, but if you get too aggressive feeding in hydro, you can really fuck up the plants...right?
Yes you can.
Your world revolves around PH with hydro in my exp.
My wife is interested in soil because it gives me 2 more feet of grow height. so I may follow your feedings on one.
I may have been feeding a bit heavy, but PBP is very forgiving with high ppm in my experiance.
Tks BK
I need to tell you that I do a lot of what I do by "feel" and the seat o my pants!! I've been doing gardening this way for a long time even though cannabis is new to me. I live alone(except when g/f is here). I spend a LOT of time with my plants. They are right behind where I'm sitting right now as I type. And so I feed them as I see they need it. I don't go by any set formula or schedule.
I realize that's not necessarily a good practice to recommend to new growers, but that's how I do it. This is my 4th grow back to back. I'm getting up on the cannabis curve maybe a lil faster than some because of my years of growing other things.
You'll find soil grows a snap compared to hydro. I would recommend going to the Organics Forum and reading BurnOne's Sticky's on soil making.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to make a GOOD soil to grow your plants in. If you make a good soil, 90% of your problems are over before you begin. And you don't need to use any of those fancy bagged soils either. Make your own so you know exactly what is in there.
Anyway good luck with it!
Soil is fun and plants DO grow well in it )) Mine had been growing at 2"+ a day while stretching. I don't think that's so bad under 400W.
The weekend is here. We're looking at 3-6 inches of snow coming tonight thru Saturday. Not time to plant outside yet
Here are the latest pictures of my three girls:
First here is SSH2, the oldest and the weird pheno.
She is very stretchy with thin stems and very thin blades on her leaves. Height is over 4 feet now. I suspect this one is a heavily sativa pheno.
Here is SSH5. She and SSH6 in next post are the two which are same age, same repotting dates, etc etc. They look like distinctly different phenotypes at the moment. Compare the bud structures of the two plants.
Here is SSH6. Both SSH5 and SSH6 are closing in on 4 feet tall. These three don't stop stretching soon, I'll be in trouble. These two are very green and very different from SSH2.
Ive had the pleasure of smoking on some really great super silver haze a few times and man is it ever one of my favorite sativa smokes hands down. Cant wait to see these ladies go through flower Ill be sticking around if you dont mind Peace
Please hang around and feel free to comment or criticize, whatever.
SSH is for certain a very potent strain. This was my only SSH plant from last grow. here she is at 11 weeks. She went 93 days before chopping. Airy buds but very potent. Just a hit or tow is all ya need to get a nice buzz going
For now, I just need to hope these three will stay out of my lightLOL!!!!!!
I pollinated SSH2 and SSH5 this morning. I didn't have a lot but enuf to do 2-3 small buds on each plant. SSH1, my male is making more though.
SSH6 is not ready yet. Bud development on her is not as far along as theother two plants. She may be a long flowering pheno like my 1st SSH and go 13 weeks. We'll just have to wait and see.
I have asked several experienced SSH growers to take a look and tell me if they can say anything at this point. One has said it looks like 3 different phenos to him. And several have said that my SSH2, which I think looks freaky, looks OK. Not to worry her. I liked hearing that. That plant is going NUTS on me!!! She is Soooooooo stretchy. I'm running out of ways to keep tying her over around and down, etc. And she continues to be so thinstemmed and thin leaved (relative to the others). Stretchy branchy all over the place. BUT....she continues to make those nice looking buds all over. And that's what matters. Some of her genes will be saved in the seeds.
I hope everyone here has a good grow going too.
I just got back from a "drive thru the mountains on gravel/snowpack roads. It was snowing really good. I love doing that stoned Nobody out there but me and the animals.
Here is a couple pictures of my 3 plants in my Hydrohut. You can see the bottom of the light. The light is hung as high as it can go. The bottom of the light is roughly 60 inches from the soil base in the pot. That means my plants need to stay at 4feet. #2 is now trying for 5 feet if she wasn't tied over.
SSH2 over on the left is just sprawling all over. I have her over in the corner sorta...out of the direct light as much as possible. She has buds coming all over, dozens and dozens of them. I suppose I could have cut more off her, but I like seeing how they grow. SSH5 and 6 were pruned more severely than SSH2 before flowering....good thing it seems since they are looking more stretchy, especially #5.
The red arrow is where I bent and tied this branch over on SSH6 about noon. At about 5PM it had already turned vertical. Very responsive plant. This is the pheno that might be a long flowering one. #5 might be the short one-- the 9 weeker. It seems to be maturing quicker. I guess we'll see.
SSH2 felt like it might need water tomorrow. If so, it'll get PBPro Flower at 30ml/gallon (2Tbls/gal) and Kiquid Karma at 10ml/gallon (2tsp/gal). I'm going to push her a bit more than maybe otherwise. See what happens. I think she can handle 30ml. This is getting to be a large plant in terms of shear vegetable matter. I don't think it will do any harm.
The other two, if they need water...they will get just 15ml/gallon PBP. They are not sshowing any signs of deficiences and are VERY green. No need to push on them.

SSH2 is on the left. SSH5 is back right. SSH6 is front right.
I hope you're "cruising" like I am at the moment....or you will be soon.
I took a few pics of each plant today. It sure looks like three different phenos to me, but maybe someone who is more familiar can help me out.
#2 is the older plant, the one which is been "difficult". I think she is really looking good. I upped her nutes and added some Liquid Seaweed. She is a lot greener. Anyway she is the stretchy/branchy one. More of an alternating node plant with VERY skinny leaf blades compared to the other two. However, her buds are similar to those on #5.
#5 and #6 have very similar leaf structure and growth habits, but the buds are very different. Plants are same size, structure, and exact same age.
A check of the buds I pollinated Sunday revealed that I have seeds coming from the two girls I pollinated with SSH1 , my male. SSH6 will get pollinated as soon as her buds get a bit futher along. She is looking to be a long flowering pheno at her current bud development pace.
I did a lilbit more pollination today. I pollinated a couple more buds on same stems as before on SSH5 and SSH2. I pollinated a couple on SSH6(last picture). She is a slow mover. Bud development is slow as you can see. She and SSH5 are same exact age. I would like the buds to have been bigger, but today SSH1 , my male , was dumping pollen...so I went ahead anyway.

Here is pollen I collected today. I just held this glass plate under the "flower stalks" and shook them. Then scraped up the pollen into that pile and brushed it on with a small soft paint brush.
These are buds that I pollinated a few days ago. See how the pistils have turned brown? Top bud on rightmost branch. Seeds are forming in there but too hard to get a good picture right now. They will swell up more as they grow.
SSH6 getting pollinated. This could be an interesting pheno. Time will tell.
