Wow, what a nice cloner. I will try this out sometime near. I wanted to share my current clone setup. They get misted with H2O2 everyday too. I'll let you know how it works.

long ass thread

I can't believe I read the whole thing, 3 hours, 22 pages.

I guess its my turn:

blah blah..looks great..blah blah...so easy...blah blah...gettin some perlite tomorrow.

thanks

I'm going to bed now.

Only to dream about tiki wicks and dishpans.

Oh yeah, Do you use any rooting hormone with that? (kidding) :bashhead:

Here is mine!

Here is mine!

Okay, I finally have a dedicated cloning/mother cabinet!

I saw this cabinet and instantly knew what it could be used for. :D

The light is a 3-socket vanity bar you can get at any big box hardware store, with a Y-connector and two 40W CFL's. The frame is supported by the shelf pins that came with the cabinet.

I have a plastic cover which doesn't fit well I could use, too. I'm going to give these cuttings a couple of weeks to grow feet and see what happens.

I finally made this little cloner, pretty much exact to the plans provided. How moist is the pearlite suppose to be. I have 8 wicks, with about an inch and a half rez. It drank all the water and I filled it back up but the pearlite is barly wet.

I'm wondering how moist it should be because mine only seems to be slightly moist near the bottom and close to the wicks.

Thanks for any help!

Not Working!

Not Working!

I have tried to make some clones and it just isn't working. Would you care to weigh in and tell me if you see anything wrong? The tub's dimensions are 10" wide, 13" long and 6"deep. It uses 9 tiki torch wicks.

The cuttings are 3-5" long, 12 cuttings total. I put the cuttings in a week ago and made sure there is plent of water in the bottom tub. Yet, there are only a few cuttings which have survived, and none of them have even begun to develop roots.

Just plain tap water is being used and the perlite doesn't seem to get very wet until the bottom 4 inches of perlite.

The cuttings are under two, 40W CFL's running 24/0 and temps are in the 70-80 degree range.

What do you recommend I do to make this more successful?

Remove the top 1 1/2 inches of perlite.

I agree with Grat3, I cut my wicks in half then fill in with the perilite to the top of the wicks or just slightly above.

with the wicks up into the air like that, that is where all the water is going into the air.

Works great, I luv it!! takes time though seems 7 to 14 days is ideal.

I did a much ghetto system for just 4 to 8 clones and it works well. all i used was a tupper ware set from the dollar store 1$ for 3 of the containters. cut off the bottom of middle tube and used a screw drivier for holes in the top one and just used some regulr paper towel as the wicks and its working just fine for me.

Great thread. I too spent 275.00 on an EZ...yeah they all root but the EZ is big and noisy...and the rez hard to keep cool in the summertime.I'm building one of these. Thanks Grat3ful...

Hey, Krusty. I see a couple of things right off the bat. You have your lights a little close which is what's drying out some of your cuts. Any of the cuts that seem really wilted may not make it unless you cheat a little. I hate domes that's why I use the perlite setup. Yet, if some do wilt, you can save them by using what I call clone cups. Same setup but 2 clear plastic cups on top of each other taped for easy opening and closing. The humidity will allow the wilted cut to recover. Love gratefuls idea. I have 1 with wicks and 1 without. I like to use my without wick setup as a pure clear tub. It's about 3-4" deep and I leave an inch or 2 of water in the bottom to allow the perlite to suck it up. I clone a lot of plants together when I go without a dome as well. Love perlite for cloning and growing.

I use rooting powder from time to time or dip n gro.

This is good info. I want to try this.

Hey, for my reference. How the heck do you 'subscribe to threads'...

I cannot find the link to do this...ugh

I tried this once and it didn't work but maybe I was too dry for various reasons... But another question: how long should the roots be before transfering into a bubbler system?
