probably because he was using it to lower pH when in reality it doesn't. Sulfate does not equate to sulfur. Just they have similar constituents doesn't mean shit.
They aren't actually talking about highly amended "supersoils" here though, they're talking about inert media right? Peat, perlite coco, etc. without any microbial, nutrient or mineral amendments...I mean that was, at least my reading of it.
I guess, according to my reading of this article I should be using an iron or aluminium sulfate for it's faster action. (It did say elemental takes a year to fully work the soil, that is long even if it is quicker & more effective mixed-in than top-dressed).
