this question is for all those catholics and protestants on the forum. the bibile says that suicide is a sin and if you kill yours4elf your gunna go to hell. but what if you kill yourself to save someone else. i was just watching that movie vertical limit and there is a scene where one of the climbers chooses to cut his own line to save the rest of the climbing party. so would GOD condemn this man. he made the biggest sacrifice a person can make he gave his life to save others, thats christ like.

in my studies of religion, i have found that intentionality is of paramount importance. i think God really only cares about what you intend and what is in your heart. so for your example, the guy cut the line and killed himself because in his heart, he wanted to help the others survive, im sure God understands this. if the man had killed himself because of some anger at the world or something, i think this would be a different situation.

and I'm pretty sure you don't go to some magical heaven or hell when you're dead your just dead like before you weren't born you don't exist anymore.

heaven / hell must be packed pretty damn tight by now, humans have existed for 6 million years roughly so there must be cavemn in there though. Also what makes humans so special, the dinasours and sabar tooth tiger might also be partying it up in heaven.

I hope there is heaven though, like they show it on TV, up in the clouds with lots of hot naked women, but having sex with them would be a sin unless you marry one......

My momma raised me catholic but i do not go to church, unless funerals and weddings.

I do however have a lot of Buddha's , you could say i'm more spiritual .

that being said, Suicide in my belief hurts the people around you , more than it hurts your sole, or spirit, in the after life.

as long as you don't go around and committing heinous acts and use suicide
as a way out. You should be ok ?........but your mileage may vary.

lol i love how athiests are just as bad as devout christians. they think that god is some giant white guy with a beard and you dont believe in anything. i think thats y many ppl are atheists they here these storeis about a place in the clouds you go after you die and they say thats bullshit. and i also love how they come into a thread directed to those who are religous and feel the need to call others beliefs crap. funny.... i personally dont believe god is as they say a singular individual but everything. people like to say there is no science to it not realizing that science is a human construct. we put a grid on everything distinguishing this from that. for example we call a mountain a mountain and the sky the sky but it really isnt either its all one thing. you me air blood cars dogs cats they are all the same thing but ppl and their little minds shut themselves off from their true identity not realizing they are everything and everything is them. science is nothing but a creation of the human mind. a mind that shelters itself form its true nature. i have seen to many profound things in my life to believe otherwise. nothing is created or lost you may die but all death is is change. i guess you can say i am in the middle ground i dont think u go to some clouds in the sky rulled over by a glowing white man. but when athiest say you die and its over thats an obvious untruth because you are part of the universe and the universe will go on with you as part of it. you may say whats the difference but the differece is huge and onc eu realize it, it is very uplifting.

Effect is more important than cause, I think the mathmatical universe knows the diff between sacraficing yourself for the good of many, rather then giving up because life is fucking tough, or weird, or unexplainable. I won't touch the heaven and hell bit though. Death is an illusion(atleast mine, others may die, I cannot).

I'm with joja, atheists are more die-hard than any christian friends i have.
It's almost comical how hard they preach about belief in nothing, because there is no accountability to anyone or anything. The whole, " we must think we are special, look at the (animal), he doesn't expect a heaven bit" is rediculous. This is what separates us from all other animals, cognition. We reason before action. We can decide based on past experiences. And yes, I think we are special
