It was quite a while ago I did this and would suggest a look through the web. I might have given them a light misting, put them in a sealed bag/tupperware 7"-8" in length so you can give them a fresh bottom cut before rooting. I think I might have taken the big fan leaves off but I'm not sure and you need to open them occasionally to put in fresh air. Mine kept for 4 weeks perfectly. Some people kept them quite a bit longer.did you put the end of the stems into a wet paper towel or anything similar?
I´ve had good luck keeping kitchen herbs in the fridge but I put them into a jar of water. I store them upright in the fridge door and they keep for much, much longer than outside at room temps
Like I say you would be best to a bit of research as it was quite a while ago I did it. It is important they have some fresh air at times. I think I just blew air into the bag, like advised.
It's just a way to keep some unrooted cuts as backup/or keeping some for an extended time before rooting.
