Strawberry Cough Goes Outside

Nem Oil works good for getting away mites and smaller bugs about 2 weeks before flowering should this spray be applied..not in flowering

Hey guys, thanks for the props and for stopping by. Reminds me that this thread is overdue for an update!

Here are some shots of a few of the Strawberry Coughs a little less than six weeks into flowering. They're starting to ripen up :smoke: but have a ways to go yet.

Also, the Bogglegums have finally started flowering. Here's one of 'em...

My outdoors garden expanded a few days back with several Shits (that's Skunk#1 x Skunk#1 x Afghani to you!):

These are easy growers and have responded well to topping. They've already begun revealing their sex, so I'm gonna have to take some clones soon if I want to keep this strain around.

The days are getting noticeably longer, so this weekend I'm going to build a simple frame for a "blackhouse" (as opposed to a greenhouse). I'm going to staple some panda plastic to the frame and move selected ladies in there at the end of each day to ensure a 12/12 photoperiod. I'm looking to pull off multiple outdoor harvests this year--not just one.

Looking really good NPK. Congrats on the grow man. Is your yield looking on par with your inside grows or are the ahead? Just wondering.

Like I said man, plants are looking happier than a sailor with two peckers. lol.

Oops! With today's don't ask, don't tell, I better qualify that. Two peckers of his own, not in his hands, or... Fuck! you know what I'm trying to say. Need to just keep my mouth shut, lol. Time for my meds, hehe.

Peace

Cracking me up, Mojo.

As to yield, this is the first time I've ever grown outside in coco, so I have no yield yet to compare. However, my outdoors grow is going a lot better than my indoors one; I stupidly let conditions get too humid, to which my plants said "no thanks" with a case of powdery mildew. Now I'm trying to beat the shit back, but it's tough going. And all because I didn't want to plug in another electrical device! :bashhead:

The outdoors grow makes me feel a little less bad about the indoors one. The plants look amazingly healthy from top to bottom, even the one whose stem was badly damaged. And unlike indoors, even the lower branches get plenty of light.

I like that idea....I'm gonna build me a "blackhouse" as well....
Mine are not getting lots of lights 'cause of all the trees....plus the weather has been real shitty....rainy and cold....I may bring mine inside every night....
The Strawberry Cough is looking sweet and healthy...the Bogglegum looks to be on the borderline of lockout to me though.....perhaps I am "straddling the paradox"
You're getting some good sunlight man....

An aside.... Barry Bonds hit #739 today
:D

Yeah man, seems like we've reverted back to winter here. I'm ready for more of the 70s and sunny stuff we were getting!

I agree, the Bogglegum is a little lighter than the Strawberry Cough. I'm not seeing even a hint of burned leaf tips so should up the nute level--right now they're all getting Sensi coco nutes at about 1000 PPM, around 6.0-6.2 pH.

I started my blackhouse but think I'm gonna need to make it deeper. It's 8' long, 4.5' high, and about 30 inches deep. I'd like to be able to stick about ten plants in there at any time and don't think the present dimensions will accommodate that.

Well, my most mature plants have been flowering outside since March 8--about 57 days now. They've been filling out nicely but have plenty of room to put on more weight. The days are getting longer though, and I don't want the plants to reveg. Right now I'm thinking I'll start taking down the Strawberry Coughs in two weeks or so.

Took some shots from above this afternoon:

This is the frame for the blackhouse. It's kinda primitive but adequate to support the panda plastic I still need to apply...this thing's most important function will be to block out light so I can manipulate the photoperiod. Ignore the weird coloring, just hiding some distinguishing characteristics on my property.

Once I get the plastic on there (white side out) we'll be in bidness! When it's all set I'm going to start moving my Shit ladies in there every evening. Looks like I have about seven females. :smoke:

Thanks guys! The structure was really easy to build--for the most part I just screwed it together with a bunch of corner braces. That will make it easy to take apart in October. I may have to buy more panda plastic, but I would guesstimate that by the time it's all done this thing will have cost under $100.

I like growing indoors too, but outdoors--man, it just feels like playtime. I love it.

yeah using the sun is some thing special, it comes through in the taste. by making it totally dark for 12 hours every day you will get much less leafy bud then you would if they are left in the natural dark, as the moon and the stars as well as street lights all add leaves to the buds. when you get total darkness your out door buds will look much closer to indoor buds, with all the advantages of taste and power that the sun adds.
have fun.

Gaius, that's really good to know. I'm in favor of anything that makes trimming easier, improves texture...and triples one's harvest potential.

I finished my blackhouse today, duct-taping my leftover panda plastic to the bones of the structure. It was like wrapping up an unusually large gift.

The front door flap opens and closes with velcro...this shot's kinda crappy but gives you the idea:

As of a few hours ago, it's occupied by seven female Shits and about the same number of Chem D. The Chems have been flowering for several weeks now, and I'd like to move them along. The Shits have only been outside for a couple of weeks but are already small bushes. That one's a fast-flowering strain--good chance they'll be done under 50 days...'bout June 25-27, by my reckoning.

Here's a better look inside the Taj Majal  :

And finally, an overhead peek at a few of the Strawberry Coughs:

Good times, yes indeed. :smoke:

Haven't updated this thread in awhile, and this post is somewhat after the fact because I chopped the Strawberry Coughs a couple of weeks ago. Just thought I'd bring it full circle. Here are the plants just before getting the axe:

There was a lot of variability to these plants, especially considering that they came from clones. One plant was covered with frost and yielded lots of small but dense nugs, while another was super leafy and a real PITA to trim. The final product is curing in jars now. Not even sure what my yield was, but I would guesstimate around 8 ounces of acceptably smokable herb.

Gonna chop the two Bogglegums from that grow in the next day or two:

They're really leafy, as you can see, and I fear I'll end up with a big pile o' flarf. I think they ended up this leafy because they were a little slow to flower and have been out during the lengthening days. Sure hope that's the case, because I'm growing a bunch of their daughters inside right now! I will say, the Bogglegum has been very easy to clone, and I love the chunky structure of the plants.

Overall, the best thing about this grow was learning how to get the most out of the short days, even before the regular outdoor growing season would technically be starting. I did get lucky with the mild winter we had in Northern California, too.

On the subject of achieving multiple outdoor harvests, what I'm excited about now is my blackhouse!

I've been using it for about a month now to force-flower some seed-grown Shits. Remember these? They looked like this on April 19:

041907shit.jpg

Here they are as of this morning:

060407shit1.jpg

I'm gonna use this structure to pull an additional two harvests outdoors this growing season, for a total of at least four. I have some exciting genetics in the works from seed (GrowDoc's Mummia and BubbleDust, plus Caramella and Blockhead), but this thread is getting a little long in the tooth, so enough outta me for now.

If you're still here, thanks for reading:
