Strange Slime buildup on roots

does light promote its growth, today i spend the whole day covering my dwc tables and 2 reservoirs,in one of the ebb and flow tables theres alot of the same shit but it just sits on the bottom of the tank and the plants see to be unefected by it,i bought a UV light for the DWC table im gonna run it tomorow does that help, are u sure about the bleach i dont even use it to clean the rez. i heard it leaves a coating so that can even hurt the plants,an advice about an alternative method id love to hear, in my country i really have limited supplies of everything

I am becomming increasingly convinced the easiest way to innoculate your whole system to make it immune to the slime (plus just about all the evil infections) is bokashi juice , or lacto bacilli (which is the main bacteria used in bokashi). There is a thread in organics (soil) forum on how to breed this bacteria using rinsed rice water and milk. You could have your own antibiotics in 10 days - and not only is it non toxic, its very good for you. Remember that the plant actually favours the good guys by making food and transporting it to the roots to feed them, so once should be enough but more can't hurt. Its called symbiosis and the mechanisms involved are as complex as you're willing to study, but frankly i only care that it works.

im half way through this thread, didnt get the time to finish it but i will soon, did anyone fina a definite cure or prevention for this slime, its kiling me,in 4 of my dwc when i treated it with h202 it disapeared in the giggest one 130gallon table it still thrives and the plants are dying,in one of the ebb and flow rez. there are chunks of it on the bottom but the plants are looking good i dont get it wtf is it and how can i kill it and prevent it,il post pics later, today a lady at the aquarium store said she had it that its not an algea and not a bacteria but something in between likw richyrich said and she told me the only thing that will kill it completely is POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE but i cant find anywhere the dose for it she said to mix i little bit of ot in water to make it pink and dip the roots and clean everything with it,i have to ask her can i mix it in the solution to prevent it

Beneficial bacteria like subtilis in the reservoir water to colonize the root zone is the best preventative measure. I don't know what products you have in the EU that do this. Google search it (beneficial bacteria plant roots or similar) and Im sure youll find some things.

It's curable but you need to use Physan or something very similar to kill the slime in the water and on the roots first. You're going to have a hard time beating it if you can't get a product that will kill the slime. I still think bleach will be your best option if you can't find a proper slime killer quickly. It's not a great solution but you need a "nuclear" option if your plants are that slimed. Messing around with H2O2 is a waste of time. The slime WILL kill your plants first! About 10 pages back I detail how I've successfully killed the slime and saved my plants. In the future use a beneficial bacteria supplement. DItry talks about bokashi juice (or whatever) but it's nothing special, just another form of beneficial bacteria. There's a bunch of products available that do the same thing. It just depends on what you have available in your country. Also keep in mind that even if you kill all the slime your plants will be stunted and will have to grow new roots. This may take a long time depending on how big your plants are. Your yield will probably suck. There comes a point where you just have to say "fuck it" and start over, doing it the right way from the start of the crop. Only you know when that point is but the slime is VERY nasty and doesn't go away easily. You will be dealing with it over and over if you don't learn how to prevent it in the first place.

ETA: No, light does not promote the growth. ORGANIC matter in the water does promote slime growth.

http://en.engormix.com/MA-aquaculture/articles/the-use-potassium-permanganate_896.htm

has anyone used Potassium Permanganate, the lady at the aquarium shop told me its the only thing that can kill it,see the link i posted about it,the second one explains how they use it in pond to cure these kind of problems id cures the fish too of the parasites i dont know will it harm plants,so tonight i placed a few of the infected clones in a cloner with Potassium Permanganate to see whats gonna happen i will get the beneficial bacteria but i have to order it from germany and its gonna take a 7-10 days that the fastest delivery here, this is the only one i can find now il have to search more, but this is a fungi is that the same or do i need Beneficial bacteria, can u name the product youv used

-Advanced Nutrients Piranha 130 gr-Dr. Hornby's Piranha Beneficial Fungi

can i use beneficial bacteria if im using sintetic nutes

u can see on the first pic the bottom of the res. in one of my ebb and flow tables and theres about 5 even bigger ones in that res. and still the plants look good as u can see and the roots too,now 2 of my 3 tables have this the one that doesnt i added b bacteria at the atrt but then i ran out of it,only the dwc gets affected severly, what should i doo about this

this is the DWC table i made, not all the plants are affected the same and ever since i added h202 the slime changed color from brown to white, yesterday i covered the whole thing in alu. foil and put a UV light witch wont do shit probably, and today i foliar fed then 1h before the light on i have to keep em alive till i find a solution,il see what the Potassium Permanganate does in the other little cloner i set aside, maybe to clean em all in that solution and the table then put fresh water in and ass the BB but i dont have em now

been a while, but i suggest making sure no light is getting to the roots, and change solution more often, had that prob yrs ago and came to the conclusion that my buckets were not light proof enough, wrapped that aluminum tape around the buckets,i ran water from the sink and cleaned the crap off the roots and all was good.also was the deciding factor for f&d tables, never looked back.
good luck,

i got an idea about how to figure out exactly what this shit is,im gonna get a small tomato or pepper plant and get it infected so then i cantake it to the agricultural institute and get the lab guy to find out what is it and how to treat it,but i dont have the time to wait for all of that i need to do something right now to make the situation less severe

Oh well i'm so sorry. Apart from the fact that it is full of live bacteria, absolutely teeming with microbes - incomparable to something that's been put in stasis in a bottle for god knows how long - its also a fermented extract of real food which also means its a highly concentrated source of nutrients for both the plants and the microbes. Its fresh, alive, 100% free, and you'll have it in such abundance you'll be using it as a drain cleaner just to get rid of it. If I were you I wouldn't turn your nose up at it - and don't try and discourage others from trying it when you havent bothered yourself.

did u try it,how affective is it,any help i appreciate alot, the only thing thats a problem is that i have to wait for 10 days and since its organic does it feed the slime too, would i have a better chace at fighting this by using non organic nutes and can the BB thrive in a solution with this kind of nutrients
