Can't wait to get a hold of some of these. Will they be feminized? Or do I get a chance of a male (which would be fun)?

Near as I can tell, the FAKE hortilab Starbud seeds are better than the "REAL" Starbud seeds - becuase as at least the fake ones could actually grow some weed.

The Starbud seeds that Hortilab appears not to want to sell anywhere, for any reason, at any price? Well I don't know what you guys were waiting for -- but whatever that moment was?

It has now passed.

Yea, it seems Hortilab's window of opportunity is dwindling. You can only hype a strain for so long without providing seems, before people buy other seeds and are on to the next thing...

Starbud - not so good?

Starbud - not so good?

Yah, to be honest I was skeptical to begin with, but still interested. After reading this thread and the review of the "Starbud" submitted to the 420 Cup, I think I'll pass. My eyes are now on "Querkle" a much better sounding strain.

The problems I have with the Starbud first off is that the poster, Hortilab, continually states that the origins of the plant are unknown, in terms of what other strains make up Starbud. I think he, Hortilab, thinks mysterious = good, but in my opinion it doesn't. What bothers me about this is that he says he doesn't know what Starbud is made up of, quoting him:

Since even we don´t know the linage of the "Starbud", it will always remain a mystery... :listen2:

So he admits he has no idea. It could be Skunk X Skunk for all he knows.

What bothers me is that others take guesses as to what's in it, and HE RESPONDS LIKE THIS:

@SOTF420: lol... nope, no SOL Blockhead nor LUI in the Starbud!

OR . . .

Nope...not related to the Sensi Star or Godbud at all as far as we know.

Hortilab, if you don't know what's in your strain, why are you telling people "Nope, not in the Starbud" when in reality you have no clue?

That seems ridiculous.

So he either knows, which I don't think, or he's trying to make it seem mysterious and exotic by saying it doesn't contain other known strains, when in reality he has no idea.

It looks like a pretty average indica, the photos were AMAZING PHOTOS of a decent-but-not-amazing bud. It looked great, but not life changing.

The main reason I believe I'll take a pass is that it didn't fair so well at this years Cannabis Cup; and other strains which ARE currently available for purchase in seed form, made Starbud look bland and average with a not-very-potent high, rather some exotic indica hybrid of unknown origins as Hortilab keeps hyping, err, stating.

Here's the 2010 Cannabis Cup judges notes on a Starbud sample submitted by Hortilab himself:

Hortilab Starbud Indica 420024 114

Looks beautiful, tight, very well trimmed nugs, not a lot of smell, but nice, tastes smooth, but a bit bland, hard to categorise, high, OK, but not strong enough to really stand out in this cup.

My interest went to ZERO when I saw that Hortilabs OWN submission to the cup, was described as a LOW ODOR, smooth but bland bud with a not-so-strong stoning.

I don't know. I've read this thread a few times, and really wanted to share my feelings because there is definitely some hyping go on here for a strain that looks to lean more average than outstanding.

I think it's pretty clear what Hortilab is interested in - MONEY!

And that's fair, put in the work and you've earned your keep. But this plant in an unknown cross, what work was put in?

What are you trademarking, and what products? You have ATTORNEYS but no seeds?

This was the deal breaker, first off you don't know what a trademark is, just an FYI, second off if you were more interested in talking about the strain and it's growth characteristics rather than hyping it, telling people you don't know what's in it as long as it's nothing they've mentioned, and then warning everyone of fakes and letting us know your lawyers are "on it" maybe we'd be interested, or at least I would.

Why, Very often the lineage of the parents of cannabis cup winner is a mystery...So, I ask the question ^^

:smokeit:

Nice looking buds

because real breeding is out of style, transparency would dissapoint customers, mystery is a perfect way for wild speculation.....marketing

Don't do it! Querkle, as in Subcool/TGA? Don't do it! That strain sucks. Space Queen x Purple Urkle, right? The same one Oaksterdam University is pedaling? It is total crap, your better off with a real Urkle cut. The grape taste is diluted compared to most purple/grape strains, doesn't really get very purple in color, and it VERY prone to powdery mildew. Don't bother....add Starbud to that list, too!

True, you said it! I wouldn't even consider myself a "seed company" or "breeder lab" commercially until I had 2-3 different varieties of seeds to sell!

Sorry, but we will be in this game for the long term, breeding takes time and we have no need to hurry. Patience is a virtue.

etinarcadiaego, I can tell for sure that StarBud is not related to SOL Blockhead nor LUI since I worked in the greenhouses where Steve created both strains. I know them.

Probably more LUI & Blockhead alone went thru my hands then the total amount of weed you ever grew.

Besides that we have experience with the Sensi Star as well as the Godbud clone from BC. Booth don´t relate to StarBud.

Get your facts straight. This is a 2010 Cannabis Cup judges note? One quick search clearly showed that this was a personal opinion of an IC Mag 420 Cup judge this year.
FYI The 2010 Cannabis Cup is coming up in November. We definitely respect that opinion but dont necessarily share it. We all know, personal tastes differ.

I think it's pretty clear what Hortilab is interested in - MONEY!

LOL...if we would be only interested in money be assured you could buy StarBud seeds already all over the place.

And since we are more interested in delivering an above average product we take our breeding seriously and will only release when we are satisfied. No need to hurry.

Oh...and yes we are a commercial company and no charity.

Okay, thank you for responding. Are you guys using the Mammoth Tents??? I've never seen anyone but me using those! Check out my thread!!!!

Anyway, keep at it, finding the right mothers and fathers can take time, but you need to have more up your sleeve than just Starbud. I want the Sour Amnesia!!! Gonna breed my own soon!

Sigh, I love statements like this, idiotic as they are. You have no idea how much pot I've grown, so why do you include it in your statement? Ar you trying to talk down to me? Either way, you have no idea, so don't' comment on me or my grows, address the questions I and other posters have written here or go open a new thread where you ramble on about your opinions of others.

Finally, NO, you don't know FOR SURE what is, or isn't, a part of your plant, regardless of your experience with those strains. You may have grown a lot of LU and Blockhead, but it doesn't change the basis for determining the constituents of the overall.

In otherwords, you don't know, plain and simple, write that down and stop saying anything other than that.

My mistake, I meant the 2010 IC MAG 420 cup, where they judged bud submitted BY YOU!

Other than that my facts are straight, I even quoted my source, a SINGLE judge at the IC MAG CUP who commented on your bud would qualify as a "JUDGES COMMENT", furthermore I have a VERY hard time believing he was the only one with those opinions of your bud, I doubt some other judge thought it had an overwhelmingly strong scent. Get real. Oh, and you didn't have to search to find it, I linked you too it.

I'm not sure what you meant by "we're commercial" and not a charity, to be honest I don't think you even know when you meant by that.

Anyways, I am/was a prospective customer, but you replied only to address the bits of my post you didn't like, you made no mention of the seeds you promised or the timeline there, nor did you address the questions I posted regarding what, exactly, you're trademarking.

I'm not trying to argue with you Hortilab, in fact I'm not arguing with you, I'm just including the negative with the good so facts may be presented to a candid world. You have no rep, and I don't mean the little green squares beneath your NIC, I mean here, in general. I don't know you and I've been here a long while, long before I registered.

If you can produce a stable, potent, productive strain that people like, awesome man, great job, you'll have EARNED my respect.

But harsh words, statements not corroborated beyond yourself, and posting pics of your growroom like I've never seen a fucking semi-commercial grow space before just ain't doing it for me. Where are the seeds? The test grows? When are they coming?

Hey Greenmopho, you are welcome. Yes, this is a Mammoth Tent with 10x 600W / Adjust A Wing reflectors.
Don´t worry, we got much more up our sleeve... ;)

A quick search on your nick showed me that you were asking very basic questions less then a year ago...that led me to the assumption that your experience is pretty limited. Easy.

Oh and by the way concerning "idiotic statements", what would u consider the reputation comment below, combined with some neg k, just one minute after your first post in this thread:

trademarks for a bland indica? jesus man, sell the beans or don't, but quit acting like such a greedy little bitch.

LOL...We said it many times before: We DON´T know the exact makeup of StarBud. Easy one again.

I'm not sure what you meant by "we're commercial" and not a charity, to be honest I don't think you even know when you meant by that.

What is so hard to understand? We are a commercial company and no charity.
BUT if we would only be interested in money (as you accused us) you could buy StarBud seeds all over the place for quite some time now...but you can´t.

Anyways, I am/was a prospective customer, but you replied only to address the bits of my post you didn't like, you made no mention of the seeds you promised or the timeline there, nor did you address the questions I posted regarding what, exactly, you're trademarking.

First, your post and rep comment consisted only of negativity (which we dont need in this thread ;) ).

Second, we did not make any promises.

Third, we have no rep. Yeah, just a 1st place at the ICMAG Cup and another 1st place a half year later at the Cannabis Cup as well as a 2nd place at the Cannabis Champions Cup 2010 in Barcelona. Sorry if we did not place in the ICM 420 this year with an "not so fresh" sample. What rep you got?

Fourth, anybody who calls us greedy little bitches is a person we dont want nor need respect from. Those who know us, respect us. Feel free to hate us if you like.

Fifth, commercial strain names are trademarked. Easy.

Sixth, harsh words? Greedy little bitches, fucking semi-commercial grow space...think again!

Last but not least, and also mentioned many times before:

Seeds are coming when they are ready and fully satisfy our own standards.
