I'm no scientist but I do know that a plant that starts to feel root bound will start to flower..(see MOB thread) I think it is a natural instinct of the plant, it flowers as a way to make offspring ..just my 2 cents.

Just wandering through star. All looks well my man!

'If someone were to pose that question to me.... My answer would be that it has to do with competition from other plants..... their roots.....'

A LOT of big name outdoor growers use cover crops which leads me to believe this is untrue. Just my .02

There is a difference in cover crops and weeds....

The main problem is that most cannabis growers have never grown anything else..... Like you???

If you can use google.....

Just try looking up ....... effect of weeds on crops......

It will keep you busy for days..

I have been had an outside garden for longer than you have likely been alive and you are not likely to convince me that weeds do not have an adverse effect on plants.......

In the post that I responded to star crash said that his ground plants were behind the container plants in every way....... a root bound plant doesnt explain that.....

Here is a headline which explains your comment...

GROW HACK: BENEFITS OF USING COVER CROPS FOR GREEN MANURE...High times.....

Cannabis plants are heavy-feeders, they love their nitrogen. Cover crops, specifically legumes, can create a usable form of nitrogen out of thin air. Legumes have an amazing ability to convert nitrogen that cannot be absorbed by cannabis into a form of nitrogen that is available for your main crop. We surprisingly have an abundant supply of nitrogen all around us, 79% of our atmosphere is nitrogen in the form of N2 gas, however, plants cannot absorb this form of nitrogen. Atmospheric nitrogen requires bacteria or microorganisms to convert the N2 gas into ammonium (N4) or nitrate (NO3) before plants can uptake the nitrogen. Legumes host a specific bacteria that lives on its roots whose sole purpose is to fix atmospheric nitrogen into a usable source and release it into the soil. It’s pretty much plant magic. For grass and non-leguminous cover crops, nutrients are absorbed in the biomass, and once they are turned into the soil, this readily available nitrogen is released, allowing your cannabis plants to feast on a nitrogen buffet.

LOL that reminds me of one of my outside grows....years ago....

My brother and I found a great place to put some plants....

there were 2 cornfields ....one on either side of a fenced in lane...... some trees growing in there but some good open spots...

So we planted out some nice plants.....then came back to check on the a couple weeks later....

We were met by a scene very similar to your pics.... except some of the cows had red eyes.....

The farmer apparently let his cows in the fenced in lane to .....shall we say de-weed......

The cows looked very happy.......

We never even got out of the car.....
