good Sunday morning to you Stitch. believe it or not, that idea popped in my head after considering many of the other designs on this forum. this way I just didn't have to buy anything extra except the tube. I didn't build the box but I did do all the custom crap. got me a little garage and a garage band. we've been building and improvising alot of stuff for years due to expenses. wouldn't you know the evil bass player would put that knowledge to nafarious (sic) purposes.

Hehe, well that just proves you don't have to have expensive stuff to grow good pot man, you are one prime example :)

We had the same problem when I was growing, expenses cut into our growing stuff bad.

OK Stitch & all .....I need some answers QUICK this prob has gotten much worse in just a couple of days......so they have been in the Moonshine Mix soil for ~ 1 month and now have some lockout (N?) my water is ph 6.2-3. This sucks huge because I have a LOT of this soil mix that I want to use! Do I test the ph of the water runoff? Test soil too? I have been letting them dry to just starting to droop......PLEASE advise!!! I was thinking of dolomite lime to adjust ph.......I dunno :badday:

THanks neuro! Glad you like it, if you like it that much, the book form will be out soon, 150+ pages :)

Are you feeding them anything?
They are time for there own pots now, rootbound plants will cause nutrient deficiencies to occur. Remove them from them pots and put them into 1 gallon size pots.

How often are you watering? When you test the pH you water your plant and when the water comes out of the bottom you collect it in a sterile clean pan and use pH pen digital one or pH test strips that have a range on them. Sounds like you have very soft water, are you using tap? ro?

D'oh sorry Stitch shoulda been more spec. I water every other day, wait until they just start to droop, I have not fed because the Moonshine Mix soil (3 dif types of Fox Farms mixed) is supposed to be quite rich....they have only been in those pots/soil for ~4wks. My water is filtered through a Britta. I have used it that way for many other grows with dif soil & had no probs. I have not tested the drain water ph yet.....

THX!!

first test your pH run of, if it's within normal range, yes, I know moonshine mix very well, I would first get them into there own pots, because rootbound does cause problems with the plants being able to absorb nutrients...... did you mix the mixture per instructions or did you leave anything out?

OK Stitcher tested runoff @ 6.5 I searched around but couldn't find the correct range for runoff....the only change I did to the mix is I swapped Happy Frog from FF for the Planting Mix because they don't carry it around here.... & I didn't add the dry ferts thinking it was rich enough for a while. THANK YOU for helping me out! I am no newb but still getting used to only organics.....
Danke'!

P.S. They are no where near rootbound.....

The pH is fine dude, don't adjust it :)
Ok, your watering of every other day has causing the roots to become stunted, this was another reason why I wanted you to remove them from there pots.

If they are not rootbound you should not need to be watered every other day and the yellowing will be a cause of overwatering too.
Also if you frequent water, it will cause nutrients in the soil to leech out faster than what they normally would.

Considering the amount of times I have had to refer to the sick plants guide since Weeedhound gave me the link a wile back, I would certainly buy the book when it comes out ;). Would also be handy to have the text & pics besides me when trying to diagnose problems. AND since having a go at soil to create myself some mothers I have been having plenty of those. :(

:) thanks neuro, if that guide has helped you out, wait till you see the book :)
It has around 90+ photos I think, I know it has at least 65..... I added more towards the end so there is plenty more examples and it has cloning help and many other things.

hello Stitch, I've got a chemical nutes question. If chemical nutes are mixed in a gallon of water, how long (on average) will it take the nutes to go bad? I know it must take a week to ten days to finish a gallon sometimes and wonder if I should mix by the quart or half gallon instead.

I would not use them after 72 hours of sitting, by then things break down and you can have problems.

You should not mix nutrients that amount if they don't use them, cause the longer they sit the more they could spoil.

Hey Stitch, you may have fixed my problem. I've been using left-over nutes as much as a week to ten days after mixing. I like to read a lot but I haven't seen any info on IC concerning shelf life (post-mix.)

Since I switched to mixing only what I need at a given moment, most of the mysterious symptoms I was getting have disappeared. Thanks for the help.

Np man, plants don't like left over feed as we don't like food that has been sitting out!
Depending on if your nutrients are liquid related or in solid form they all have a form of how long they can sit out, organics are more prone to spoiling quicker where chem's can be out a little longer. They all have different times though, but most of them I would not use after 72 hours.

If you want to keep nutrients longer, you need to keep them bubbling and keep them very cool temps, the shelf life will last longer that way. but I would not keep them for no more than 2 weeks tops if you use those conditions.

Hey Stitch....mine are coming along nicely.....I top dressed with Fox Farm POM 5-5-5 that I left outa the Moonshine Mix & all seems fine! I was a bit surprised that the mix used the nutes up (or leeched) in 4-5 weeks. Thanks a bunch,
G

Good to hear! ya, all strains remove nutrients at a different rate, just like people eat different amounts.
If you water heavily all the time it will help leech nutrients out quicker too.

Very glad to hear they are coming along man! Hope ya have a good harvest :)

I have done much searching but still cannot diagnose this problem...maybe you guys can help...because it is getting very desperate.

What system are you running? (DWC? Ebb flow? Aero? Water Farm? Flood Tables? and so on...) Ebb n flow
What STRAIN are you growing? double dutch
What was the establishing technique? (Were the seed or clone?) seed
What is the age of your plants? 1 week
How tall are the plants? 2 in
What PHASE are the plants in? (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in? veg
What Technique are you using? n/a
What substrate/medium are you using?(Hydroton, RockWool etc.) hydroton
What is the Water temperature? 22c
What color are your roots? White? Brown? Are your roots slimy? white
What Nutrient's are you using? How much of each if using multiple? 1/8 strength iguana juice grow
What is the TDS/EC/PPM you are using? n/a
What is the pH of the "Tank"? 5.2 - 5.8 according to strips
Are you sure your calibration is correct on your equiptment?
When was your last watering? few hours ago
What is your water temps? 22c
When was your last feeding change? (ie. grow-bloom-micro-additional)
How often do you clean your system: example: Flush out water replace with clean water and nutrients?
What size bulb are you using? 2x42W cfl until plant is bigger/remaining seeds have germed and grown out.
What is the distance to the canopy? 6"
What is your RH Factor(Relative Humidity)? n/a
What is the canopy temperature? ~25C
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range) 25C constant
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.) lights are in fan cooled hood...had no fan running on the plant but changed that today...they are in a temporary space in a med. closet.
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? It is as of today
Is your water HARD or SOFT? soft
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water? distilled
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned off of or pinched no
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When? no
Are plant's infected with pest's no

So I have heard many things such as my pH being off or lack of nutes but my strips don't show anything drastic and the plant has not reacted to the nutes added yesterday...also the browness that you see in these pics progressed from the first two shots to the last three in less than 3 days....the plant just isnt keeping up to the dying leaves!

Please help!
