Spiders....you know the creepy crawly critters....

Know spiders quite well and do not fear them. Matter of fact, they can make decent subjects for a photo, especially my favourite species - family saltidicae, otherwise known as jumping spiders.

Best eyesight of the spider world, when you look at them, they look right back at you. Hunters, not web builders, & efficient little predators - they can take prey larger than they are.

Good thing they don't grow to the size of a puma, or we'd be in trouble. Last 3 pics are jumpers...

Jumping spiders rule..As a child i played with them all the time. Put them in my hand and let them jump and hang by the web the leave behind...Love them suckers i will still pick them up if i see one and have the time to play around. I would and could just observe them for hours on end. Kinda dorkish i know but nature just has a way of bring n the dork out.:)

Spiders are welcome here, as long as they keep out of my living area, and my bloom, otherwise I let them be. I do get caught in webs now and again, and have to relocate the perpetrator, but figure it is fair game. Spiders are our friends.

I can vouch for women going nuts over insects, my girl lets out a crazy scream at the sight of anything from a spider to a palmetto bug.
I don't like the sight of spiders crawling around in the room that I sleep, so I kill them. A slap of the hand/boot/newspaper does it.

I think that some of our female counterparts have it in their genetics to react wildly to the creepy critters just because some were potentially dangerous. As a self defense mechanism, I could see how instinctual genetics could evolve to tell a human that any startling critter could be dangerous. On the other side of things, my mother goes frantic at even the mention of a snake, but she doesn't hesitate to whack a spider.

Could it be in the DNA or is arachnaphobia the result of being scared by a spider as a defenseless child?

Thats funny dark side you might have a point there

Maybe its just the look of them as they aint pretty , neither are bed bugs magnified or most creepy crawleys , thet look frerocious close up

I wouldn't harm a spider but would slaughter a fly , dirty manky things flies . vomit in your sugar . yuk .

I dunno....spiders look so alien that to look at they are definately interesting......

....maybe it's the erb?'....

I like animals of all kinds, including our multilegged friends. However, I hate american cockroaches(aka waterbugs) with a passion. I'll let spiders, snakes, etc crawl all over me, but those fucks incite feelings of malice. The hardest single insect you'll ever try to kill IMO. Fast as hell and can take multiple shots from a shoe before they stop scuttling. You have to crush them GOOD. Now I can't leave my window open at night anymore unless I want to risk being woken up with a waterbug on my chest/leg. And I say this as a keeper of a hissing cockroach.

I have always been amazed at how most of my girlfriends in the past have behaved around spiders...

Arachnophobia they call it....---Fear of Spiders..--

..Do any of you have this fear?....If so can you explain it because I cannot understand how a 120lb woman can be brought to tears and fears by a 1 gramm spider.....brought to ABSOLUTE hysterics.......and making noises that are most primeaval....

...I understand that a very few species of spiders are very dangerous/venomous.....but all it takes is a quick slap with a newspaper and....game over.

oh no those images are from a google search on brown recluse and then a brown recluse bite (pic shows 9 days after bite)
Yeah there's like 5,000 (i have no clue, maybe a million?) types of spiders, and about 30 of those give the rest a bad name. Brown Recluses are one of the reasons I'm apprehensive about moving to the pacific northwest. Hobo spiders up there too. Then down south there's more Brown Recluse and Black Widows. Plus a lot of non-poisonous spiders around the world deliver a painful bite.
I'm an a-phobe for sure. I have a 6th sense where i can wake up and see one on the wall. Smash. SPlat. Destroy. Tarantulas are the only spiders I don't mind.
Jumping spiders just plain freak me out - they're alien-like with their colors and they're extremelly intelligent.
