Spider mites AKA The Borg

Dr. Purpur

Custom Haze crosses

Im still at least 4 weeks from harvest on my earliest plants. All plant crosses that have Blue Crush in them are being attacked by Spider mites,

I just went to the health food store and bought Aroma therapy 100% essential oils of Lavender, rosemary, and peppermint. In one half gallon of water I put 40 drops of each and two tablespoons of castille Peppermint soap, and a cup of 99% Alcohol. I also added some liquid kelp extract for healing properties. I sprayed the plants under all leaves thoroughly and misted the soil well too.
Ill let you know how it works. It definately is aromatic in that garden now

It really knocked the mite population down. I sprayed twice. I make up a 25% pure alcohol 75% water solution. To one gallon I add 50 drops each of Rosemary oil, Lavender oil, and peppermint oil. I also add 2 tablespoons of Castille Peppermint liquid soap. Soak the under leaves good when they are not in direct sun.

The strong smell goes away within a day. I smoked a early bud and could not taste it.

read thru all pages for tobacco tea formula and didn't see anything other than whats on page 2! crap. iso the tobacco/chili powder or tobasco combo.

right now i gotta cig simmerin in a quart of water. im gonna add a quart of rubbing alcohol to it and let them have it tomorrow. sprayed them with malathion this a.m., and a few are still kickin slowly, but i want to make real sure. also, i am surprised so many people don't like Dr Doom spray. i have had nothing but total success with it. just havnt been able to do the 5 day follow up. and $15 a can is pretty high. i am broke now. i know dr doom is pyrinthians, and my spectracide pyrinthians was crap. actually bummed the cigarette i'm simmerin from a friend! haha. i also add neem oil straight to the feed water. a few drops. i thought i had it dicked until i saw the invasion this a.m.

i thought Organicide killed my plants, go figure, and pyrnthians by spectracide didn't do squat either. the malathian is spectracide too, but i put 5ml (tsp) in a quart spray bottle, which i think is more than they recommend. it doesnt seem to need any surfactant. and works great as long as you spray them within the hatching cycle (3-5 days i believe?). i just am thinking the tobacco/alcohol mix will be better. i found some cayenne pepper too. and will add the Dawn too. i look forward to watching the little bastards writhe in agony!

i used about 25% 50% alcohol. made my nose bleed. man it's strong. wear something! also, with all the dead mites from the malathian, and reading that some people don't like what others did like, i would say it might not matter so much what you use, as much as it is important to do the follow up spray after whatever eggs didn't die the first time, hatch. i havent tried the fprbid, floromite or azatrol tho, either.

i would like to know how many cigs/gal or how much tobacco/gal to use for that tho. i only put one cig ina 1 qt mason jar. i don't think that would have been enuf for just tobacco alone. i know there is a more in depth formula somewhere around here.

Update. sprayed this a.m. just checked and there was like zero effect!!! Going back to 5ml/qt of malathion. it works. i can't believe that other concoction didn't do SHIT! :(

WOW, What a thread. I do not recommend reading all 37 pages in 1 sitting... Great Info!! I have learned a ton. Also would like to add my 2c. Back in the 70's my closet grows when we got bugs (Borg) I was shown a method that worked well. We would mix ground cloves and ground cinnamon together and apply a layer to the dirt. My tobacco spraying juice was made from cigars. The juice was added to hydrogen peroxide 50/50 and some borax was also added. (Didn’t have liquid soap ) I would add the cloves/cinnamon after every water. And spray the plants every day. Bugs were never really a problem.

So what I learned today is.... Keep your stuff clean. Treat everything you bring in with something and quarantine it to ensure it is bug free. Buy and release mite eating mites. If they have nothing to eat so sorry for you. Cheaper to kill some good mites than to allow even 1 cola to suffer. At first sign of a mite, scorched earth. Treat with at least 3 different mite killers. Don’t mater if you think they all dead use ALL 3 you choose.

Every 60 days spray down all, including walls with bleach/water using a Hudson.
When all has been done Rinse n repeat.

Did I get it right? Or did I miss something?
Love this website. Can’t wait to get started on my first grow in 30+ years

Ever since I started adding Merit 75 WP (originally started for root aphid issues) during veg (in hydro at 1/4tsp per 10gal solution) Ive NEVER had any bug problems. I also use Pro-tekt for silca resistance and Dr. Doom bombs once per crop right before budding starts. This combo works for me to keep any and all bugs away from my girls. That whole "oz of prevention better than pound of cure" thing.

Just starting to get back on my feet after my hip replacement and look at what I found...

After much digging around IC I'm fairly sure it's spidermites. No webs...yet, so it's not too bad. And thank heavens it's in veg but getting ready to try my hand at cloning.
This is what I have on hand bug-killer wise that's fruit & veg. safe.

What would be y'all choice of these 3. Yea I know it's a chem. but at this point in time getting around ain't easy.
Thanks in advance. :tiphat: :thank you:

Google "Systemic Use of Spinosad to Control the Two-spotted Spider Mite (Acari: Tetranychidae) on Tomatoes Grown in Rockwool"

So it looks like 1ml monterey + 4.8 ml water will give you 1 mg of spinosad per plant. According to the paper it lasts longer than spraying it on the leaves and is more potent. I am trying this now by applying it to the base of the stem. I am using coco so I am not quite the same as the paper.

I have some ladies in that will be chopped in the next week, is isopropyl OK to use? Thinking it might negatively interact with the trichromes....

vibration!?

vibration!?

1. I found ants were nesting in the pot of Northern Light the other day.
Since there was a air pump which I abundoned cuz too big noise, I felt it gonna bother em, and put it on the pot.
To prevent they become accustomed to the vibration, I set on a timer to 15min ON/15min OFF.
The next day, they were moved to the pot of Chernobyl a little away. Seems to be effective. Of course also air pump chased.
I do not see em from the next day. The day of the discovery of the spider mites, I sprinkled insecticide also, maybe that's why.

2. The branch of the Aero Air Layer on, does not have any spider mite.
The Aero Air Layer, what is an experiment on going now. A branch stick into a little plastic case which contains small amount of tap water and 2 little 1.5v toy motors with props keep splashing on the shaved stem skin to get rooting.

Hypothesis from the above two points is the vibration that is useful in pest control. I found by some Google search, such as patents and research to promote the development of the plant with vibration. Although you might've heard a myth say the music helps plants growing, something like that. Could not find information that gives a negative effect from vibration that opposition to plants. Insects and spiders is likely to have an adverse effect reliably.

Did anyone try this?
Or any information about experiments done?
If it works, it's cleanest cheapest and easiest way?

so, its been three days since i sprayed hotshot kitchen bug killer and keeping vibe em in my vege room. i found some guys crawling on those leaves which are away from the air pump. and also i found on some clones.

i was afraid negative effect from vibration for those just rooted thin and weak clones. thus i put only weakest and thinnest one touching the air pump on the NL mum pot. cuz she was looks dying anyway. All other clones are treated by rubbing my finger tips.
but the girl reincarnated over night, by vibrating?

i put 3rd air pump on the tubs which clones are in.
i still holding any spray kind to see how vibrations are working.

vibration day 7

vibration day 7

still i can see some borgs walking around.
but it seems decreasing. also i dont see any new eggs.
plants only have positive reactions. clones love vibes!
i replaced most silence air pump that was on clone tubs to the loudest one from on the CB mom and PD mom pots.
louder is better?

this is a bit off topic, but question about plant root growth and vibration.
the pics shows you those roots growing only one side of the beer cup.

DSCN1855.jpg
from the "vibe side"

giorno 7 (inizio fioritura)
the other side

and the side view

that third pic showing i put her a little diagnostic to the cup, so that made the unbalanced roots growth, maybe. but i feel the vibe side is more fluffy coco like sponge, contains more oxy. im using 100% coco, thats why its good for roots to get more breath.

she is about 1.5' clone cut from her mom 2 weeks ago.

rooted by "bubble air layering".

2 weeks from vibration started

2 weeks from vibration started

i don't see any for these couple days.
they are gone. vibration works!
it's easy for small plants. only biggest one took 2 weeks to get rid of em. i can say over night for ants, and a week for borgs on the normal size. i dunno for other bugs but maybe.

i'm gonna stop vibe from today, and if they come back, i'll be back here too to report.

^^vibration is interesting, also just to be clear ,in the above pic, that plant was only cut 2 weeks ago? amazing if true, so you air rooted it by encasing the branch in spashing water? how long did it take to show roots? then what did you just cut the branch off and plant it and allow to harden off?

sorry for all the Q's.
:)

i epoxied a beer cup on the branch about 1.5' above coco surface.

the cup was filled with tap water and voodoo juice, half size flex stone on the bottom.

it took 7 days to actual roots to show up.

i got the stone out before the roots to get too big, and put coco instead of water then start feeding still on the branch.

cut the bottom for drain

couple days to cut
i recommend to wait for a week more to cut.
