Sour Diesel (Sour D) - Upstate NY 2000/01

Chasing The Present
Everyone has a story, here’s mine… Pulled one seed from a lb. Back @2000/01 when the Upstate NY Sour D was @ back then, this is CNY… One grower in area had it, hoarded cut under threat, they even went through their flowers making sure no seeds… but as we all know, them little beauties sneak in, I pulled one from a elbow (hard to get that much back then in fact) and I later selfed that plant @2008 or so when I later had the space & time to properly do so…

That initial selfing made 400-500 seeds or so, all the plants below are from that selfing. Some variety in these 10 or 11 plants but not too much…

This round I’m gonna hit them with a few males I selected from @Donald Mallard Sour Mango, thank you my brother from another… :)

I’m no “diesel” OG nor Kush expert, some have told me this looks even older like the original diesel, all I know is what I experienced - it was called Sour D and @ 1998 or so - early mid 2000’s that I recall

What they are is all diesel sour funk, have no viruses, no variegation, no HpLVd, vigorous as can be…

I’ve crossed these out to quite a few things over the years and though some were magical it lost most it’s diesel funk, let’s hope this one works, I prefer regs but won’t be holding my breath

Thanks for the thread, Damn your plants are kicking ass. Are you using coco or peat and what kind of lights are you using?
TY -

I build my soils & recycle them
Indefinitely, they have native (honeoye soils) peat, coco, turface, perlite & whatever the cheapest bag stuff is when I go to store that looks good; I’m organic grower & farmer and for me it’s more about diverse inputs, having enough clay for CEC sites and then really it all comes down to proper watering imo….

Here’s a light pic, the tiny red one is my viewing light at night (effectively a far red bulb, actually speeds up night processes, it’s a cheap reptile nocturnal bulb) but is on same switch as lights outside the room so on here, the only lights off are Ushio Mid range UVB which I run 4 hours midday

I build my own LED, the DE is 1000w hortilux which I recently got a few on the cheap as they going out business

I’m very fortunate, this room has nearly 11’ ceilings :)

ecsd x shantis mango haze ibl ...
Thank you sir & Well yes indeed but was hoping for a bit more than that, I could’ve shared that without bothering you ;) …. I forgot who’s Sour D you said it was, maybe Chaco or something? Was there any details on the male(s) you used?

I’m using 2 of your Sour Mango btw, one much quicker & another slow, fairly different terps on each dad too… wanna say there was 7 or 8 males I choose from…

Thanks buddy, I’m sure these beans are gonna be funky and you’re always welcome to some of course

Peace

hehe ,
yes it was lacking a little i agree ,
but early morning ,
and you are correct , it was the ecsd they call chaco cut ,
after a member on here who documented their grows some time back ,
some lovely pot comes from it ,, very strong aroma , carries quite a distance ,
though not exactly how i imagined something called diesel when i first heard the term 20 odd years ago.
It was very popular here among the punters i hang with , they all remember it fondly,
and not lost either ,, i shared it with a few folks to ensure its longevity , and a friend i visit regularly still grows it in his room , but i much preferred the outdoor grown stuff ,, the smell is much stronger , i think i prefer outdoor weed alltogether

as for the male , well i narrowed that down to 2 from the original seeds i got from shanti,
it was hard to pick between them ,, it was much the same as the females , one was a bit cunkier , the other a bit thinner ,
i preferred the pot from the thinner , more hazy type , so i chose the male that resembled that girl also ,
she had that more inscence , church sort of aroma most tend to rave about,
and i quite like too , hence my selection of the male who looked like my preferred girl ,
he did a fair bit of work that chap , and his progeny seem quite sound and everyone who has grown it says the same ....

id love to get my nose on those girls of yours to get an idea of how they smell ...

Much More to my expectations my Bro :) ^^

I decided to only use one male; he’s just superior in every way, especially for this project… Had to bend him over; my silly scrubber was trying to steal all his / MY pollen - ya know like “My Island” ha

These girls are starting to reek, eyes watering already… tad bit reds coming in, nothing like the Sour Mango Male (Mr Red) but a hint, generally I lean limey & green so I’m game for whatever

The two taller plants fore & background are HI Indica x Ampakafo Village (Madagascar collected by Arnold)

The HI is

citrus Molokai Kush
Buzzards Hash Bud
Strawberry webbed Indica

All from HI Old school brothers, I did the selections on parents…

Nothing stays on the nose as pleasant nor for as long as the Diesel family

Chunking up proper by the day - cute little room

100pct agree.... the sun gives plants something no hps/mh/cmh/led or whatever can match...

unfort being surrounded on 3sides by water, my environment doesn't work... i mite try auto's this year.. start em indoors and bring em out in june/july to finish

Ushio Midrange UVB - been preaching them for years, maybe a decade even now, - the key is UVB not swaggy UVA, UVB is real deal; a foot from those bulbs is UVI 100+ - I did extensive studies on this long time ago, expensive meters to test bulbs etc, ran all types closed rated aquarium bulbs, everything one can imagine - UVB is a Fluro affair

Id bring the sun inside if I could but would leave a lot of other things out there…

Oh, I just love those tall long stretching plants you have in the background. That brings back memories of Mexican Sativas from the old days. You have a super garden setup and thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks buddy…

Do You live in worse environment than upstate NY in snow belt 200” + per year…?

Cambodian / Laos x Haze finishing outside up here, I’m guessing you’re a NYC fella based on previous comments, by comparison you’re on easy growing street ?

@led05 how are you watering in that jungle?
Soak it by hand every few days from a 44G Rubbermaid garbage can on wheels (it self fills via float connected to RO from my basement plumbed into mains, I have water lines all over, discreetly though) , most all my tubs or containers are on wheels too… believe or not I spend less than 30mins a week on that particular room… it’s on autopilot - no fancy timers or controllers here, I use a few old cheap wall ones to switch lighting intensity throughout day… it’s well past time I get a decent controller but with such varied lighting tech and ones I build, why fix what’s not broken I guess…

My home is filled with growing rooms but visitors haven’t a clue, lots of good filtration & covertness @ here, not sure my neighbors even saw that monster pictured above growing outside, all about the site lines - and we pull tons (literally) of fruit & veggies from our tiny acre here so there’s plenty of other visual distractions to focus upon - ha

Peace, thanks for stopping @ y’all

yep a little east of nycity.... and god bless the people who live upstate ... my problem is the humidity... no problem in july and aug, but once the end of sept rolls around, sun does not come up as early, so the humid...very humid air stays in the bud longer... and rot sets in ... happens every year... on the other hand i grow elsewhere in my veggie/flower garden next to my plot of zinnia's..... zinnia's 'always' get PM... so having my pot plants 15/20feet away means they too get PM....

as u said too bad we can't bring the sun inside... and leave the nasties outside...

Shit starts melting here come September too, mornings often look like it rained a tenth an inch or more but it’s just the dew, 2022 was a very unique & special year indeed
