Somas Pink Glue VGrow Box Grow

It's been a while but I'm here with a new grow. This is my mini indoor experiment with the Vivosun Vgrow box. Originally I was going to try and grow Somas Sopurple, but of the 3 beans I tired to germinate none of them sprouted :/ So I took one of the freebies that came with my order and in less than 48 hours voila! My Pink Glue seed sprouted. So now I'm growing Somas Pink Glue which is: Pink Runtz and Soma’s Glue (a cross of Bruce Banner and Gorilla Glue #4). Sounds pretty tasty so we'll see!

First off I needed something smallish and inconspicuous. I know I could have done a DIY cabinet, but I didn't feel like sourcing everything out and then building the thing... maybe in the future. I also don't need a ton of plants, I'm planning an outdoor grow this spring so this is just just something to grow and have fun to produce a little bit of hash. My goal is to turn most of what I harvest into solventless rosin. I don't need much. Onto the set up.

Nice simple heavy duty packaging for the VGrow

This is the base with a water reservoir underneath, which I think holds about 1.6 gallons of water I'll be doing a drip system with Roots Organic 70/30 Coco. They have this wick with a cloth bag which I don't think i'll be using.

IMG_8203 2.jpg

It's pretty simple, the box has a base, 4 poles, a pleather like "skin" and the top has the light, carbon filter, and a fan. It also has USB/outlets for the drip system and temp/humidity probe.

The skin was a pain in the as to zip on and I'm not really impressed with it. I can already see tiny light leaks by the zipper when the lights are on. Luckily mine is in a rarely used closet so shouldn't be much of an issue.

It's super bright, comes with a 100w LED light built in and so far it's pretty quiet, although I don't have the drip system hooked up yet.

Not too mcu to report as of yet, but she's on her way. Pink Glue just popped up last night and this afternoon she's looking good so far.

TLDR: Soma Pink Glue in an automated Vivosun Vgrow kit. Drip system using Roots Organic 70/30 Coco. No nutes yet since she just popped up. Just want an indoor grow for fun. I'll update again in a few days. Thanks for checking out the adventure.

Thanks for posting friend. Damn thats a hell of a set up and it will be fun to see how much weed you can get out of it.

On another topic, I've have ran into problems with Roots Organic mixes the last few times I used it and decided to stop using their stuff. Its not the same as it was its much less productive than a few years ago. The guy at the grow store said everyone he talked to said the same. I have you noticed a difference?

Yeah I’m curious to see how well the set up works, we’ll find out soon enough!

Regarding the Roots Organic, I think it’s still too early to tell. The guy at the hydro store was very high on it. I went for it because it has the perlite already mixed with the coco for better drainage and it’s ready to go. The kit comes with coco but you need to hydrate it. I’m also using hydroton mixed in as well.

Starting to show the first set of leaves today. The coco is still moist but once it drys out a little I’m going to hit it with the recommended nutrient dose for seedlings.

I started with the recommended nutes for seedlings the other day. This is a local nutrient operation, I figured I’d give them a try. I transplanted the seedling into the main 3 gallon cloth pot and covered the top of the coco with hydroton and gave 1 liter of water with a very low nutrient solution. The PH of my water was about 8 and it dropped down to almost 7 with the nutes. I don’t have any ph down yet so I used a few drops of fresh squeezed lemon to get it down to about 5.9. So far things look okay.

These are the nutrients I’ll be using

Today I flipped from the VGrow automated seedling stage to the veg stage and installed the drip system.

Seedling stage is just 60% light intensity, no fans or anything. Veg stage increase the light to 80% and turns on the built in “natural wind” circulating fan and turns on the duct fan.

I hooked up the drip system and filled the reservoir (about 1.5 gallons) with a nutrient solution. 15 ml Necessary Plant Energy and 15 ml Advantage Grow. I also purchased some Fox Farm Cal Mag but haven’t decided if I should use it or not.

Cleaned out the rez from hand watering and installed the drip pump. They have a little one that is designed for this rez.

Clips right in and the USB runs up to the module at the top so you can set it with the VGrow app

I think things are coming along okay. I can’t tell if the white veins are a deficiency or just the way this strain grows. Also can’t tell if it’s a little too yellowish green?

That's a pretty decent price for that set up.

Yeah, I felt like it was a decent deal. I could have sourced a bigger tent and all the fans/filters/lights for about the same price but that wouldn’t have been as discreet as this and self contained in the same way. I would have like to run two plants at once, but so far it’s running as advertised. The controls in the app are pretty cool too. You can run everything through there and make your own “recipes” for light intensity, spectrum, wind speed, duct air flow, humidifier, drip schedule, water levels, temps, ect.

Here’s a shot of the apps Home Screen. It’s not really week 3 because my first seedling never came through and I didn’t reset it when I popped the pink glue seeds

Really love the growth with Coco. I can see changes everyday. I broke out the tape measure and topped off the reservoir today. I added about 1/3 of a gallon to a 1.6 gallon reservoir since Thursday.

Started low stress training today. Might be a little early but I really want to keep her low and spread her out as much as possible given the constrains of the size of the VGrow. So far I’m happy with the growth, every day and half or so a new set of leaves emerges.

Swapped out the reservoir water for fresh nutes. I added a little bit of Fox Farms Cal Mag to see how she responds. Overall things still look good. Getting bushier by the day.

I made a mistake with my water. I have a water softener and I as you can see in some of the photos above, there was some yellowing. I went over to the infirmary page and they helped me sort out that the salt was most likely locking out nutrients. I went ahead and bypassed my water softener and swapped out my rez water and things started to green back up.

I've been using LST to maximize my space and this plant is short and bushy. Last night I did some defoliating to get some light to the lower budsights. Here she is after a little trim.

Chemical water softeners (salts) are a no no for plants. You want cleanest water possible.
I've never worked with a water softener before and I honestly didn't even think about it. Glad the community was able to help me sort it out, and hopefully this grow is back on track. Things look like they've improved vastly after only a couple of days.
