yeah i know its just when i get ideas sometimes i think to much and should really take a step back and look at everything. but that being said only time will tell what happens i know my gf does not like the idea at all cause she likes our building so maybe she has those instinks running through her blood again about bad ideas like i said i am having second thoughts and things prob wouldnt work out how i would like them to, so i will be much more patient from now on or at least try... i really dont wanna go to jail but who does..

about wireing i would have a electrision wire the room up becauase one of my friends is becoming one and i trust him since i have none him for 7 years or so but still gotta keep it on the DL

I grew in a family owned rental when I lost a good job, when everyone else was losing too. I had 4X600 flower and 1000 veg. had to stop because of no snow on my roof. Now that I look back at it.......If my dad found it, he would shit a brick and then beat me with it. Also they will stop by unannounced,it is your parents dude.

if your going to do it go small...I am sure your already getting a break on rent. and only use 80% of breaker rating for safety.

I too have to grow 'covertly' as best I can. In my experience, the more you do at the build stage in sound-proofing, the better you will sleep at night. I would recommend using a double-walled enclosure around your room. Insulation packed between the existing & new board-wall will cut down a great deal of noise. I always hang my fans from rubber 'O' rings and connect them to the ducting with flexi ducting. This way, there will be no harmonic 'humming' to worry about. Acoustic boxing your fans also cut down on noise but most of the noise comes from the air movement itself rather than the fan. Again acoustic ducting helps in this regard. To add to this procedure, you could build a box around your ducting runs and fill this too with insulation. Do you have a chimney breast you can tap into? Having all your hot/filtered air ducted up & out of a chimney is perfect.
Air & water pumps/powerheads can also be noisy. Putting a 20mm acoustic mat under your res will sort these noises out. You can also sit air pumps & oscillating fans on cut pieces of foam.

thanks guys for your input right now i have a 4x4 tent in my room that i sleep in and i sleep ok but sleeping with peace would be like heaven

iffy thats a good idea about boxing the tubing up i never tght of that and unfortantly i dont have a chimney to exaust the air out of i would either need to go out te window or into another room somehow. and thanks desert fox for saying what has happen with you makes the situation more enlighten when someone has been through it and has experenced what i may go though. im still in the air about this i may just stick with my own apt with my 4x4 tent and 2x4 closet till a 2 bedroom comes avalible in my apt since the super smokes weed, make me less scheky

I gotto agree with 5th. Be patient and go with what your comfortable with. I wouldn't take any unnecessary risks with my parents' house.
It might be prudent to stick with your 4 x 4 and continue learning & gaining experience until your circumstances change.

alright so being patient paid off after about a month of not knowing whats going on i know what im doing now, so i wont be living in my parents rental instead a 2 bedroom opened up in my building and i will be going to see it tommorrow night, and i may possible move there instead. i will need help on a room design for sure when the time comes and not to sure if i should get a res or what for easy watering, if someone could point me in the right direction for a self watering system that is easy and cost efficant and that would be lovely

Hi Greenbean,
I'm not sure that I would go the self-watering route just yet. Keeping things really simple is the answer IMHO. I would definitely fit a sink unit with a tap & filter unit if I could. It's not difficult and I am so glad I did just that - every time I do a res change.
You'll get loads of advice here about designing your new space.

thanks iffy the only reason i think i would like a self watering set-up is becuase if i do a 8x8 tent im thinking maybe having about 20 plants in the whole thing and it would just be a huge bitch to water all of them everyday esspeccally with the space confinments since most likly i will have about a foot of space at the sides and near the front ill have plenty of space, was just thinking it would be a lot harder to water the ones in the back since im use to a 4x4 and sometimes thats hard to get the guys at the back.... i may get a smalll pump and hook it up to tubing and just use it as a hose that way i could control how much they get and i will be able to reach the back.... does this sound like a better idea than setting everything up

I got a similar setup. A shallow res and a pump fitted to a main pipe that runs the length of the grow. All you need then is a smaller 'dripper' pipe to each pot. Either stand them on a sloping tray, so the water flows back to the res - or have the pots in saucers and the pump on a timer to feed in bursts. Dead simple. You could also easily set up a water butt as the back-up res & fit a ball-cock, like you'd get in a toilet cistern.

Blumat drippers or autopots, bluemat is a lot cheaper and easier to customize.

The thing about the systems im talking about is that they are gravity feeders, so you don't even need a pump, just put the resovoir higher than the pots.

Sustainable Village has everything online for a Blumat setup. There is a big blumat thread here on IC. I wouldn't say the initial investment is cheap but it seems well worth it.

that sounds like a really good idea the only thing im not sure about is if i wanna have a constent drip system.... would you still need to let the substrate dry up so you dont get root rot? the reason is i dont really wanna grow hydro. i would rather it just be start watering and substrate.. i think i may have gotten it confused when you said hydro , i though hydro was with just water and like little to none substrate

The Tropf Blumat system has a ceramic "carrot" filled with water that pulls open a pincher valve on 3mm silicon drip line. The common setup is to use fabric pots and run plain water through the lines or a non-gunky fertilizer solution.

so its not really like a constant drip rather than a slow release ceramic thing? would it work if i got a big grbage contaner drill a hole in the bottom for the lines and than stick them in a pot? also when you mean a non gunky fert. would something like general hydroponics work?

Right, it's not a constant drip. Don't get the Blumat Jr.--those seep water through the ceramic cone (although a couple people have used these). People use GH Flora, etc.

if youre in a tent use trays and some smart pots with coco, you can drip them easily with a timer small res or hand water,drain to waste, coco is fast and really forgiving ie you can let it go a few days without watering,in a rental keep it simple, use 4x4 trays instead of 4x8,easier to conceal if you have to do a quick teardown,ive had to move plants and equipment in 24 hours notice and it really sucks,if you scrog/train youll really maximize yields with a simple setup
