I would try tx for a bit.. Grizzly adams or not i think change is good, and its a door that has opened only once dont let it close before you go thru and find out what is behind it..

It might be the best blessing you have had in a long time.. If it were me id go to tx and try it out.. You will never know unless you go... Good Luck in what ever your decision is... And may you be blessed in doing what you choose.. peace..

too damn hot down there for me, one of my pimary reasons for wanting to goto AK is for the cold. I live in PA and it is damn hot here for me as is..

I guess compare how much freedom you would have to grow and for yourself to enjoy life..

that and the extreme heat too..

be prepared for a complete 180 in climate, social atmosphere [not that i think you would care too much], and recreational activites [like snowboarding, ice skating ect.] I hear that as long as you stay away from the major cities, Texas isn;t that bad. It when you start mingling with the stereotypical hick-ass cowboy morons that shit gets retarded.

Hey bro,

I'll offer advice without offering any at all. Meaning I won't tell you what move to make because it might be the wrong one for you. I'll simply offer my personal thoughts from experience and see if it helps you out any in the decision making process.

Happiness:

A simple concept really and one that has played a massive factor in my own life. While you know a bit about me, there are details I've left obscure, and that's just me, you know that. I'm sure you also realize that there are many things I COULD be doing that make a hell of a lot more money than what I'm doing presently. But I plug along because its really what I want to do. I'm very good at it, and although I could be wrenching on some multi-billion dollar piece of government equipment, welding/fabricating things for NASA, or designing hi-tech concepts for a major corporation, I choose to paint.

My family would perhaps be happy with more money, but at the sacrifice of losing my happiness. They would see I'm not as content grinding away at a high stress level job, and then the saying would be true for them. "Money can't buy happiness" even though it can help a little. :rasta:

I plug along when I have to. Sometimes the money flows well, other times its tight. The economy is in a bit of a hole right now so business is slow, but its going to pick back up again. It always does.

Do what makes you happy my friend. That's all I can really say. Sometimes a sacrifice in one area is worth the smiles in another. Sorry to write a book here, but that basically sums up my thoughts on it. Peace

thanks guys and thanks SC

yeah it's a bit of a decision, and i appreciate that some people care.

i'm glad in a big way that i dont have a family to think about, and that my peeps (gf and dogs) are actually very self-sufficient....and none care what we do, as much as i do.

i dunno....tho, i may take another trip down soon and see whats up....the job as I think i mentioned is a petro. plant operator, and can transfer to Alaska, so it might not be a bad deal.

thanks guys

This is kind of a rude statement but its cool.Nothing is wrong with me and im from Texas.I am also not a hick and talk like a normal person. You can probably go to a small town and find these hicks but in the big cities there aren't any hick types really in my experience atleast.Nokuy, irish is right about the 180 in climate. One day its hot as shit and then its freezing or possibly snowing the next day and vice versa.Anyways if you decide to come down here then you will probably get used to it.Colorado seems like a nice place to live though.Peace

UNLESS...you want to be a recluse and live a life of isolation,Alaska is not for you.I think all you people who have never been there have some kind of romantic vision of it,in reality it is a dirty hole.Everything is overpriced, the people are drunks and dont like outsiders, and work isnt at all easy to find.In my experience it wasnt even a nice place to visit, but thats just me.

You say that no matter where you go you will make the same money....go where you will be happy, since money isnt the problem,go were you will be happy.

I havent decided for or against TX yet...even if i did it'd be just a step.

to comment on your post red... and I guess this has to go to the leader aka alex as well

your AK experiences arent uncommon.

Alaska isnt a dirty hole...lol...but you can find some dirty holes.

everything isnt overpriced or even on the half scale that leader mentioned.....'less u live in the deep bush.

or s.east

yeah there are drunks and peeps that hate outsiders, and dont let your car break down or youll wake up and it'll have been a shooting target for the bored kids all night.

jobs are everywhere...the Gf basicly made me quit fishing when our friends were killed (kodiak 2003)

but theres good weed

fresh seafood

cheap land

free food if you hunt fish and garden

free cabins if you can build one

i got a few yrs to go...but i dont like hearing peeps dis alaska.

nokuy is spot on. i was in wrangel (well close). and it was one of those holes.

now the fishing, hunting. fresh seafood, wild life, glaciers, heli skiing, nothern lights, hiking, huge state parks w/free everything.....

alaska had its really bad times, but all i had to do was climb in the boat that sat in the slough 2O feet from my abode and be on another island or up a fresh water river in minutes.

when we 1st meet nokuy i was fresh off the rock w/a huge chip on my shoulder about it. not anymore.

Yukon, I dream of owning my own Dungeness crab boat up near anchorage, maybe fish some salmon in the cook inlet during the summer, maybe if we ever cross paths I could give you a fishing job thats a lot less risky, I'm a bay fisherman =]

(but I don't think I could guarantee you a 100k season lol, but those in the know don't care too much about how much they get paid, as long as they're fishin)

This is why I love alaska.....because the lower 48 doesnt know shit about this place. Please....dont come here.

So many stereo-types.
