Hello stoner buds!
Well, I started out a microgrow in an old armoire planning to veg and flower in the same cab, but my plans have "grown" with my plants. So, while some of you might know some of this from the microgrow thread, I'll quickly update for new readers.
I took this:
and by reading many, many threads and some shopping turned it into this:
So all done and looking pretty good. So seeds coming up and I don't like the reflector and 125 CFL I bought
so, inspired by all the DIY threads, I devote a saturday to building my own light. I come up with a 256w air cooled CFL reflector. Turned out pretty well
And we're off and running with 5 little Speed Queen seedlings.
Well, they are liking this well enough, but of course, as the wife says, I'm never satisfied, so I'm still not happy, because I've been reading MORE THREADS and now I realize if I want to keep me and Mrs. Soulshine in our own weed, I need a flower cab. So, I look around, read MORE THREADS, and look at those premade cabs. Well they want WAY too much money for those but I see that most of them have 400w HPS in them, so I figure thats the way to go. A little more shopping, and more than a few hours work and I come up with this:
ALRIGHT! Finally done, looking good again. Got a 400w HPS with cool tube, 146CFL inline and carbon scrubber. ROCK & ROLL! Well, the armoire was pretty stealth looking but where am I gonna put this mammoth 6 foot tall plastic monster cabinet? I'll clean out a closet and put it in there. There is attic access right in the closet ceiling so venting will be a breeze. So in it goes and Mrs Soulshine says as long as it's in there lets put the armoire in there too. Well we do, but it was made to fit in a corner and vented straight out the back, so it could only vent into the closet. Well, after a few days of that, temps were out of control in both cabs. Seems a 400w is a bit too large for the plastic cab, and venting the 256CFL light and the additional 168wcfl from the top clone chamber into the closet where the plastic cab was pulling from sent temps sky high. So, it dawned on me that since I'm taking up nearly this whole closet with two cabs, why not just convert the closet itself. Well, Mrs Soulshine's not to sure about this til I show her some MORE THREADS with some dank, sticky, trichome covered buds. Next thing I know, we throwing sweaters and old picture frames everywhere, cleaning out the closet. So work, work, work some more and this is what I'm growing in now.
I ran a heat/AC duct into the closet and can control temps very well now. The vented side runs into the flower side and the backside of the vent has holes drilled into it for the veg side and can add or subtract duct tape to change temps, like the nascar rides! I added a vortex 449CFL for venting, placed it in the attic, and added a duct muffler to keep it quiet, and built a bubble cloner. So meanwhile during all this building, the plants suffered. Heat, stress, PH all took it's toll, and had a poor male to female ratio because of it. From 10, I ended up with 3 females. 2 speed queen and 1 afgan. Since I've had nearly nothing to smoke since last February except the occational brown nasty stuff that smells like cardboard, has to have a grinder to break up, and is half seed, I put the one afgan and 1 larger (scogged) SQ into flower after taking a few cuttings, of course.
After culling out the males
I have 2 plants just into flower. I have to check my notepad for what day. I'll post that next update. Here they are about a week ago.
Wife is away with the camera right now so will have to update later, but they are coming along nicely. Stretch is over, and buds are forming. I kinda ignored the afgans while buiding the closet and they got some stretch to them. I had topped them young, and should have done it again, but will do better on the next round.
So, it's a long start. If you read this whole thing, thank you very much for stopping by. I appriciate it. I'd like to thank some folks who have inspired me and have helped me along the way. Some of you I have just read your threads, some I have talked to, some have become friends. Thank you for all your advise, encouragement and inspiation! Thanks go to: Heady Pete, J-Roc, Lifeless, Red Greenery, NOKUY, Pontiac, Black Rain, Kovenant, Lemon, Pan-op, Mr. Ed, HappyHemphog, GMT, BonsaiGrower, 1Toke, Highonthechronic and I'm probably leaving a few out. If so, I blame it on this brown sh1t i'm smokin' Ha! THANKS GUYS!!!!
