Solis-Tek 10k "Finisher" vs CMH and UVB penetration.

The guy makes you tell him what your setup is before he'll sell you one. I sent an email saying I was actually looking to pick up a couple so I could experiment with using them in indoor gardening. I never got any reply. Maybe I'll have to try again and this time just pretend I have a giant room full of lizards.

Haha...classic...sad that folks are even concerned anymore.

Try these. I have four of the 275 watt ones. Very strong and throw lots of heat. Not ideal but it was hard to find ones that would work well in my setup. The guy knows that some people are using them for cannabis application and doesn't care.

Hi timmur, to deal with the heat, how far above the canopy do you have the 275 watt bulbs? and how much canopy space does each bulb cover?
Thanks

Any frequency shorter than 315 nm damages the plant with no useful properties at all, none.

Ok, so this sentence has me really confused. Did you mean to say that any frequency shorter than 280 or 290 was bad (UVC)

I understood that UVB was 280-315, and you were saying how great UVB was, then saying to avoid anything below 315.

This was why I asked earlier what the exact nm range was that you were measuring when you were giving the figures for the 10k bulbs.

The 275 watt bulbs will deliver the appropriate amount of UV from a distance of 50-60 inches. They have circular footprint of about 30 inches in diameter. I'm not sure on the heat as I haven't done a run with them yet, but I can deal with the heat in my grow with a mini split. With that said, I'm not sure what the impact of the infrared will be on leaf temp. I have a laser non-contact thermometer that I plan on using to monitor leaf temperature. Once I get some readings I'll post the results.

The Agro-Max Pure UV t5's seem to provide the most UVB/watt. A single bulb will provide enough UVB for a 12 sq.ft positioned 3 feet away. They do not put out any noticeable heat.
The Solis-tek 10K is intended for the last 10 days. For the rest of the veg and flowering cycle I would use 4K and 6K. These also put out UVA and are better for veg and flowering. If you want a cheap way to measure UVA, get one of the little cards that Hortilux has been handing out to promote their new line of t5 bulbs, some of which contain lots of UVA and a little UVB. These cards work great as do their bulbs. For UVB you will need a special meter. BTW, don't run any of these bulbs unless you wear glasses with UV protection. Even the 54watt Hortilux t5's can mess up your vision.
