SOG question

just in case a few people have a wrong idea of what SOG is, here are the basics:
- 4 plants per square foot (yes, its dense)
- >50W HID per square foot (yes, SOG will profit from high light intesity, its about penetration, GG is using 100W per square foot with Co2)
- relativly short veg, as GG says "in SOG veg is discounted by plant numbers"

you want spears in SOG, not bushes, so if someone stating that branches are getting to heavy, he's not growing SOG.

the biggest problem with SOG? Its a legal one, plant numbers. Apart from that, you'll need a lot of clones

someone saying that he had a problem with 600W? Its certainly not the bulb's failure

i will be pulling close to a pound off of this plant with a 400w light. and this plant still has a month to go also it's 4 1/2 feet tall

apart from not being anything close to SOG, its just plain bullshit, this plant looks like 4-5 ounces when dried, at best...

FWIY Curtis, I'm hoping to pull 14-17 grams per plant in this setup...~85 plants under 2K (currently 35 days into flowering). No flames about the horribly uneven canopy ...I inherited about 2/3 of those plants from a friend.





This one was around 20g...

Too those of you that do not agree that is fine.And as far as the date on the picture i have rechargeable batteries. and i did not set the date on the camera. but none of you few know it alls couldn't figure that out huh. 900.00 i got from the store that i bought the lights from. 900.00 includes the light, the fans for the lights 239.00, all the ventilation hoses. also that is only the top part of the plant if you open your eyes. it comes to the middle of the freezer. and the plant is 4 1/2 feet high. also there are buds from the bottom to top. and to the original poster of this thread my bad man. me and babyH got a little carried away. i will also delete my post if you ask me to do so.

wow you could not be more wrong! Sorry to be so blunt but that is straight up misinformation that you posted.

The reason you had bad results with higher wattage lamps is probably because you did not have enough venting/cooling.

Higher wattage lamp = bigger buds

all things being equal, thats just how it works. Light intensity is KEY in this hobby!

highasakite....... youve obviously never witneesed the pop of growth a 1k horti eye can put on a well situated lady in the last 2 weeks, 600s cant produce it, so a 400 definitely can not, if it does good in a 400 setup, youll do double or more with a 1k horti eye,,,,,,,baby is right.....sorry theks didnt do you any good, but to outright say what you said, can mislead a newb,,,,,,,,kind of like the blind leadingthe naked. nice mod you got there. bd

First of all, where did you get a $900 1k HPS? I got mine including the cooltube for just a touch over $200.

haha not a link BD, it would be more like link(s). You have to shop around (both local and the net) to find the best prices.

but before you order, CALL AROUND LOCALLY! Lighting supply places. remember, a 1k ballast is 30 or 40 pounds! So if you can get it local for a good deal might not be a bad idea.


And hey if you go MH then you can get it for even cheaper!! HPS is more expensive than MH when you build it yourself.

I think my (non cooltubed) 1k MH ran under around $100 and change.

I did a little homework for you.

Ok just getting everything (except the reflector and chord) from 1000bulb here are the prices

$125 plus S/H for a 1000w MH

$170 plus S/H for a 1000w HPS

that includes ballast kit, bulb, socket, and ballast box (which you don't really need!).

On shipping, they are very reasonable IMO. They are located in texas, and to have 3 ballast boxes, 2 1k ballasts, and 5 bulbs (3 boxes total) shipped to the west coast it was under $50. The ballasts alone were close to 100 pounds!

mdhydro has cooltubes for $60. But you can build your own aircooled reflector for half that. Plus you save on shipping.

And that right there is how you get a 1k lamp for around $200!

It would be great to pull a quarter pound per sq ft wouldnt it?Unfortunately we have to be realistic lol.I've never seen it happen.I veg my plants a couple weeks and flower them in 2 gal pots which I've found to be perfect for me,and get 1 to 11/2 ounces per plant which puts me around an lb per 1000 watter,thats being realistic though I could do better with better yielding strains

Skeletor,, thats less then .5 grams per watt,,, Being realistic, U could do much better if you put the time into, used the proper methods, and had a heavy yeilding strain.. alot of ppl strive to get 1 gram per watt... i think thats not enough,,, Vertical Growing SOG can improve your yelids per watt
