Snow High Seeds' Double Acapulco Gold

These buds are light as a feather. They were very lemony, but, it has become more subdued. I just got a whiff of strawberry with lemony orange or citron, but very light. a little bit of a hashy scent and then of course a 'planty' kind of smell sort of between carrots and hay.

Interesting palette of aromas, especially the carrot part.

I wonder if the carrot smell could point to either African origins, or possibly India. Sometimes geranium aromas can be carrot like too...has anyone done Phylos testing of the Mexican strains?

Good question. I think people have described some Africans (zamal, swazi) as being carrot smelling. Both types probably have recent Indian origins. Especially Zamal.

Mexicans imo recemble North Indian/Nepalese/Pakistani strains the most. My Oaxacan could have passed as a North Indian farmhouse plant if I didn't know what it was. There are lots of old Mexican strains on phylos. Last time I checked the North India / Pakistan connection seemed plausable.

Sweet carrots is what I smelled from Oaxacan Gold as well. I remember it very vividly as I hadn't encountered that smell before.

What i read is that traders from India and Jesuits brought the drugtype Cannabis to Mexico. The traders were interested in the red peppers and the Jesuits were interested in the medical value of the plant.

What I noticed with growing of different landraces that only the landraces from India carries the trait carrot in the aroma.

good job finishing them and nice report on the acapulco.

Thanks Ringtail! Though, I'm not finished just yet. I'm still growing the upper colas of the 'gold' plant. She was above the lights and so, I want her to finish up for a few more weeks and also I tried pollenating that part with female flowers from the same plant. So, I wont harvest that until the seeds ripen. I also plan to report the final weights and then a final report on the flowers and smoke after curing. All in all I think I have another month or two until everything is a wrap :)

The scent is complex, but subtle. Yesterday I harvested the best bud of the whole crop. This big heavy bud grew closest to the light and turned a gorgeous golden-blonde with magenta and pink colors showing through and on the tips. The scent of that bud was straight up rose! Very nice. And the other day I smelled a watermelon smell from all the plants in the room. So, over all a fruity and floral scent profile. The carrot smell, I tend to associate more as a general 'green planty' smell. I don't think it is coming from the terps or trichomes. I get the smell a lot in other plants particularly when they are drying and especially if I watered them recently before the chop. The Colombian Gold 1972 definitely had it and I had to harvest those well before it was ready and the plant had not yet developed much bud and hardly any trichomes. I did get plenty of fully mature seeds from that grow, which was the main goal.

With such similarities between Indian plants, it makes me wonder if the origin is associated with the British "East India Company" as others have suggested.

Two of my Red Snakes going right now have a very India highlands look to them. Very wispy airy foxtails forming.

Nice work Hempy, impressed with your choice of genetics (I had a peek in the other thread that you linked). I tried some of Snow High gear some years back, I forgot their names but they were really good. Some day would try a long flower also.

Thanks entropical! I had a good time growing these. Can hardly wait til it's all done and ready to roll up and spark! I wish I would have snagged Snows Panama Red reproduction last year, but they were out of my budget after I bought these Double Acapulco Golds.

Growing them is half the fun. I don't mind these long flowering strains at all...just means a longer time to enjoy them and their various stages.

Let us know how these smoke!

All in all, I am super happy with it! I will have a final report soon with yields and smoke report. I regret not snagging a bag of Snow's Panama Red reproduction. They were out of my price range after I bought the Double Acapulco Gold (same price). I guess the Double Panama Red is a little different. If you grow the DAG, you are more than welcome to post reports on this thread, if you want to.

Cheers! :tiphat:
