If I freak out at the sight of a harmless garter snake, I'd hate to see how I would react to something like a rattler or cottonmouth jeeez

HorseMouth: I wouldn't be too concerned with the second snake, from the shape of its head it doesn't look venomous (not very broad to fit venom sacks) but that first one... that motherfucker looks mean and dangerous.

I like snakes myself. around here, it is like snakes or stay on the blacktop. we are eat up with copperheads & timber rattlers around here. if you really are afraid of venomous snakes, catch a couple of big black snakes & try to settle them in where you grow. them big fuckers eat copperheads & all but the biggest rattlers. keep mice & shit away from your plants too. I have caught them around here nearly 7' long, big around as my arm...
rofl tin man caught growing weed! You can make snake leggings out of old segments of stove pipe.

Moral of the story I guess is to avoid using any netting type material to drape around your planters as camouflage, since it will entangle all sorts of unexpected guests, who will be there when you show up to check your plants.
lol damn man u go in all masked up and all huh? thats hardcore love it!!! i dont even do that but that is what i should use to keep those fkn misquitos off me..they will each ur ass alive here..it sucks when u gotta go check ur plants right after a big wind storm just to make sure everthing is ok..come back out looking like a zombie with whelps all over ur face, neck and arms..hell these little bastards even hit u on the fingers here lol i guess they see a meal in us since they are not alot of things as big and delicious looking to themI despise snakes though...

I see em a lot down in the swamps I grow in and on the train tracks looking for frogs after rainfall, but so far I haven't seen anything venomous. We only have a few venomous species where I live... so I do keep an eye out and carry a walking stick but have never been bitten or anything like that, that I wade in some deep water in the beginning and end of the season.

A grower's worst situation is getting bit in a remote area, and not being able to get to help in time. Where I go - if I get bit by something like a Copperhead I'd be lucky if I made it back to civilization in time. We have northern rattlers here supposedly as well, but I've never seen any. I just try to make as much noise as I can (for bears as well) and make my presence known. For the most part they don't want anything to do with us and will slither out of our way...
